Flag Sizes and Colors Rated 4 out of 5 stars
I love this addon and have used it for a long time, but I have to say that I am very disappointed in the v5 beta version. The alternative flags are missing which is the ones I always used as they look better and the default flag sizes and colors are just absolutely hideous. Please use smaller sizes and better color scheme or provide the alternative list back again. I will be happy to vote it 5's like it deserves when it regains it.
EDIT: @Dave thank you for the reply and the width option was helpful, now the size is more reasonable at 20 for me. You misunderstood what I mean by the color scheme, I am not saying the flag colors should not be exact, they are fine. I mean the color intensity looks "tacky" for a better word, compare to the alternate flag set you have in the pre-v5 version and you will see what I mean, once looks flat, dark, and the other looks light, glossy and bright.
Dev Should Have Anticipated Fx20 Release Breaking Functionality Rated 3 out of 5 stars
I have been a very long time user of this addon and have a special place in my heart for it. I like the way its written, the way it works, the options it has and it is part of my package of addons that go into a new profile without fail.
However, as it has become abundantly clear, the release of Fx20 has broken this addon's functionality and I have to say with respect to all who have provided "workarounds" that disable private browsing to get it to work is not a solution, highly advised against and frankly a piss poor solution. The fact is that Fx20 has been in the works since the last release and any developer should be on top of compatibilities for the upcoming releases to ensure their addon continues to work without fail. The fact that this is how we are finding out and now expecting the addon to be fixed in response to a problem, rather than preventing it like the hundreds of professional developers on AMO that keep up with code changes without interruption in the functionality of their addon.
To make matters worse, the link provided for the addon's homepage which supposedly would also serve as its support center is invalid and that's a shame. With no way to get support through legitimate means, people are left to putting their issues here in reviews which is the inappropriate forum for airing such issues and should focus on the evaluation of the quality of the addon and not be the only means to notify the developer of issues with it.
I am highly disappointed to say the least and hope that the developer begins some serious work on setting up a proper page for both support and related information for this addon, as well as doing a better job to keep up with changes in the Fx code which are mind you quite a bit and frankly getting ridiculous, but still if you are going to make an addon for something, you have to take that into account and keep up with it. Others do it and is frankly a regular part of the development and future compatibility cycle.
And for anyone who is going to make the "its free, what do you want" argument, don't belittle the principle of professionalism and providing a quality product. The fact is that you choose to make something, you should either do it right and with consistency and professionalism, or just don't do it. Free shouldn't equal crap and never should be considered an excuse for doing less than your best on something.
This in no way is intended to be offensive, belittling, or ungrateful and should not be taken as negative criticism or bashing in any way. It is intended as an honest and sincere feedback on something I began by giving my compliment and appreciation for. Therefore if I didn't care about it, I wouldn't have taken the time to write this, so take it as constructive criticism arising out of frustration stemming from disappointment at the loss of functionality with hope that it will help avoid future stumbles.
System of Mob Rule Rated 1 out of 5 stars
2 Star rating is only for the idea, not the implementation or value of this addon. Read why below.
Although the concept is interesting, that you have a world of people rating things, the most fundamental flaw is that we are leaving it to fanboys and haters to decide. It is hardly ever that there is an impartial person making the call and there is no comprehensive or systematic system of validation of such ratings, just whatever anyone wants to say.
So if the majority of people who took the time to rate are haters of a site, it might get a bad reputation without being a bad site, and vice versa. That's a huge fundamental flaw of this system, its mob rule mentality, not to mention that each individual's perception of what is bad or good is entirely too subjective to be valid in itself unless the person is a professional. So even if not rated from point of outright bias, it has an inherent bias of the person who is rating based on their lack of knowledge on what they are rating or what they "think" constitutes bad.
This is more of a WOP, web of popularity at the moment, so comes down to how many people like your site or don't like it, not really that its safe, or not. We all know what they say about opinions, right? Well all this addon does is collect them, nothing objective about it. So the database might as well be a sewage plant.
And a note to the developers, stop being so sloppy for god's sake, is it so hard to ask that you maintain a changelog and make it easily available like any other legitimate addon so people know what the hell you are changing in each release? There is no record of your changes, I have searched your entire site, support site, even looked in the forum and there is no concise and comprehensive version based changelog regarding changes to the addon, that's not only a bad habit but implies you are just winging it without a plan or accountability.
/EDIT: Response to the developer reply:
Star rating changed to the lowest due to the confirmation of purpose received through the developer's response.
You say your system is meritocratic, and that if you took what people actually said that it could be skewed and so you use a system to prevent that. So in effect you are admitting that you are actually manipulating and controlling what the weight of the reports are which effectively proves the allegations that you in fact assign grades based on your own opinions and not the actual will of the people or their reports. So the fact that one can "buy" your good seal of trust is quite possible if not indeed a fact. You can't have it both ways. On the one hand you claim that you are showing what people have reported and how they feel and you can't control how that affects the outcome of a good site being labeled as malicious and on the other hand you say that you don't because people can affect the outcome of it by numbers, so which is it? Do you intervene and actually decide or not? What you say about merit and what you say about controls to prevent it, are contradictory. The fact is that the popular opinion about your tool being just that a TOOL and not accurately reflecting the reputation of the site based on what people say like you claim and is indeed skewed and influenced by your own motivations and decisions, so we are expected to trust YOU to be doing the right thing and yet what you say and do are a contradiction in terms.
It is a shame that Mozilla does not take a more proactive approach to validation of your service and blindly recommends it. It is doing the people a great disservice.
IT DOES NOTHING Rated 1 out of 5 stars
If I could rate this less than 1, I would. I have installed this and it has done NOTHING. Its always blank, it tracks nothing, shows nothing, does nothing it says. I mean if you are going to market something so "revolutionary" you might want to make sure it actually does what it says, hell have it do ANYTHING at this point would be better than what it is doing, which is NOTHING. It doesn't show or track or display anything but a blank screen ALL THE TIME.This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.16.3.1-signed).
Needs a Version Bump Rated 5 out of 5 stars
I have been using this addon for a long time, even before it was available on AMO and I love what it accomplishes and the simplicity by which it does so. I believe people would benefit from having it. I strongly urge the developers to please keep on top of the rapid Fx versioning and keep the addon compatible. Thank you. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (4.2.1-signed).
Rated 1 out of 5 stars
The concept of this addon is noble but the implementation is pathetic and awful. It causes random and numerous crashes, it slows down the browser, litters the preferences with excessive entries, has no support or way to reach anyone to report problems. I would stay away from this until they get their act together and fix up. They are using this to drive traffic and attention to their other services and don't really give enough attention to developing it for itself. Real shame. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.314).
Useful and Effective Rated 4 out of 5 stars
I was turned on to this by a fellow mod and I find it absolutely awesome and effective. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars (which it deserves in principle) is that it does not provide an easy way to see the resulting search "engine" code or to have it packaged for reuse or exported so you don't have to create it again on future installs. A low level hack of the profile provides it to you but not everyone knows where to look and it would be remarkable if you could include those options and perhaps even an uploader integration to send your engine ready to go to the Mycroft. Otherwise, excellent work and thank you. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.8).
Very Useful Rated 4 out of 5 stars
This is a great addon that I found because a fellow mod turned me on to it and I think its great for cleaning up the interface/page before printing. I have just one request for it which would make it perfect and that's to add the ability to use mouse clicks to remove the object once the element has been isolated and found (instead of ONLY using keypress) and that's the only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. Otherwise excellent work and hope to see that feature added in the future. Thank you. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.97).
excellent but with a couple of tweaks Rated 4 out of 5 stars
This is an excellent addon with lots of promise and fulfills the needs expressed very well. However, a couple of tweaks might be nice for the next release/update. 1) Please either prompt for the settings immediately after install BEFORE you initiate the default sort options or do NOT automatically sort based on your defaults, this screws up any menu structure that the user may NOT wish to sort your way before they have a chance to change the options for it. 2) Remove the bookmark toolbar from the "all bookmarks" list and make it an entirely separate option, since that's where most peoples custom ordered bookmarks are held and sorting them will screw it up. By default sorting bookmark toolbar should not be sorted. Other than that, great job and thank you for an excellent job. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.5.0).
Awesome Rated 4 out of 5 stars
I have used this addon for a long time and I love it. I find it a valuable part of my standard set of extensions. However, I do have one issue with it not identifying the servers properly on certain occasions. For example, on domain x it will say Apache XXX and then you go to another page on the SAME domain, SAME server and it says M$ IIS which is not possible, I know because its my own domain. Other than those occasional glitches and missing data on alot of sites I come across, it is a great tool. Thank you and hope you will get the rest of the bugs out of it soon. Keep up the good work. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.1.6).
Rated 3 out of 5 stars
Well after the disappointing initial release of 2.0, the more recent updates and tweaks seem to be putting it back on track. Good work, keep it up.This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.003).
Tons of Potential Rated 3 out of 5 stars
First let me say that I love this addon and think it has great potential. Its a wonderful proof of concept that can be developed and extended to go far beyond its current limits. The problem that I noticed is that there is no real way to get a hold of you and discuss this addon, no real support options available. If I may give some ideas out here hoping you are reading them: 1) add the concept for more elements, as the previous poster suggested, so I won't repeat, 2) provide the ability to whitelist certain sites where the addon would not assert itself, and there are much more I can offer if you want to get in touch with me, if you want I can even participate in helping you develop this further, up to you. Good luck and thanks.
Great Idea/Poor Implementation Rated 1 out of 5 stars
This addon has the potential to be great but is developed in a very piss poor fashion and comes with ZERO support, documentation or the simple ability to revert what it changes. It does not integrate well with the theme, it does not provide any explanation for the changes it makes, no way to get a hold of the developer or provide feedback, uninstall leaves a lot behind and often incomplete, and has no ability to maintain the changes for restoring default options. I hope the developer cares enough to do something to fix this and make it better or just show common sense and remove it.This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.10.2009031401).
The New Version Was a Mistake Rated 1 out of 5 stars
Version 2.0 is the WORST thing that could have happened to this add-on. This was one of the best working and most functional extensions until it was gutted and completely destroyed by ver 2.0 and I don't know what went wrong but it needs to be so fixed or just deleted. First off it destroyed the Fx profile when updated to this version and then it acts like its completely castrated and fails to function. This had so much potential, potentially it was destroyed. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.001).
Wonderfully Efficient Rated 5 out of 5 stars
This is a wonderfully efficient and useful tool to many and very well done. Thank you for the tool and as stated by another, works wonderfully as a regular calendar as well as a Baha'i calendar. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.1).
Long time user/supporter, First time review Rated 5 out of 5 stars
This is by far the most excellent, well designed and secure addon created to help the end user protect themselves. Any user, regardless of their experience and knowledge level would be well served to have this extension installed. For those who feel it adds too much limitation and restriction, consider that anything worth doing like protecting yourself should be proactive and you should care to learn it and do it. There are many security vulnerabilities coming out on a daily/hourly basis and a solution this well maintained and supported and designed would be a valuable addition to any arsenal. Highly recommended and you will be glad to have it. Thank you Giorgio Maone for developing this and we will continue to support you in keeping it the most useful, functional and well supported utility in the Firefox arsenal. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (184.108.40.206).
Excellent with Potential for Much More Rated 5 out of 5 stars
This is a useful and well designed addon that is very user friendly and even with the lack of "documentation" is easy enough to use that anyone should be able to figure it out. Its a high quality work produced to address a basic need and does it admirably. I would however suggest that documentation be made for the noobs and also adding the front-end utility to surrogate the hardcoding of the styles for the non-technical users and the ability to store and execute credentials for sites that require user access to activate links within the posts. Although these recommendations would be nice to have, the addon is excellent and very efficiently functional as is. Keep up the good work. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.2).
Poor implementation, better Alternatives available Rated 1 out of 5 stars
I wish there was a way to give no stars but I tested this addon with hopes of seeing something special and it was anything but. Poor integration, others manage to keep it free without ads, features not as rich as expected and frankly although it has a potential to become a great addon one day when it grows up, currently it is less than spectacular and users would be much better served using a tool like Brief or even the built in live bookmarks is a better implementation. Good luck to the developer but needs to change the design model to be more user/feature friendly. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.2b).
This is trust first, get bent and then react??? Rated 1 out of 5 stars
I have been a soldier all my life and I would never go into battle wearing a t-shirt, flipflops and carrying a notepad until I find there is bad people shooting at me, take notes and then block them so I am prepared next time. NoScript may be "paranoic" which is not even a word but it is much more advisable to go to a site have function limited and decide you need it and you trust it to allow it rather than go to it, get destroyed with bad code only to go back and block it, this make sense to you people? really? This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.4).
Shamefully Junk Rated 1 out of 5 stars
I downloaded and tried this extension because I felt it addressed an interesting idea and was worth a once over. I was really hoping that it WOULD work as well as some had said instead of trusting the few that said it was crap.
I have now come to experience the fact that indeed it is crap as written. Unless the developer stops being such a self righteous show boat (calling EXCELLENT add-ons like NoScript "Crap-Ware" while putting out trash like this) and actually attends to the problems this extension is causing, this should be removed with prejudice.
Despite the problems already listed such as not caching properly, pages failing to load, images suddenly disappearing off the screen on reload, and another well documented problem such as the fact that Live Bookmarks fail to reload and update as they did before making them completely stagnate. You can easily find reference to this issue by searching Google or searching Firefox Support Forum.
I would like to think as a developer that I would give the benefit of a doubt and that's why I tried this for myself with open mind but now has so thoroughly screwed up the installation of Firefox that only a clean profile or reinstall will fix it. What a shame.
