Google + Bing + Ask = Qrobe.it for Firefox

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Minimal, like how Google was when it was good.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (20100203).

RSS Ticker

Good @ (6) vs. Not Good @ (5) Rated 4 out of 5 stars

+What's good is that even with scroll smoothness (& CPU usage) set to its highest, it yields to other processes and doesn't cause hang.

-What's not good is that it's context menu has a transparent background and black text, which is 98% unreadable.

+What's good is that the feeds are randomized, so there's not an hour-long bunch of Channel Register articles that take the whole afternoon to be done.

+What's good is that the articles open in background tabs.

-What's not good is that there's no way to disable the icons next to each item and make it text-only.

+What's good is that it can remove the 'read' items from the rotation.

-What's not good is that Firefox reviews can't be formatted to be readable & this review looks like a blob.

+What's good is that it runs in Windows & I no longer *have* to use KDE3 to have an RSS ticker.

-What's not good is that it's useless unless scroll smoothness is at 100%, and when it is, the fastest is still really kinda slow.

+What's good is that it works on FF4b7, which is the latest at the moment.

-What's not good is that Force TLS doesn't work on FF4b7 yet, which is totally unrelated and doesn't belong on this review.

+What's good is that I'm out of 'What's not good' entries for this extension.

1 star for conflicting information

One reviewer says: "but in 4.0b7 it works liek a charm"
But the official Firefox extension page says: "Not available for Firefox 4.0b7"

Status-4-Evar

No good Rated 1 out of 5 stars

This isn't the status bar. There's no 'sync now' button, or anything.
Worse, it doesn't disappear when the add-on is disabled- even after uninstall it's still there.

AFOM - Memory Recovery & Retention For Firefox Only

Defaults only Rated 1 out of 5 stars

The author's website states the user can specify the operatng mode, referencing a status bar icon that does not exist. The add-on's "Options" button is greyed out, and it's "Tools" menu entry adds unnecessary clutter just for on/off. Bad UX.

Yes popups

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Confusing extension, big time.
And as for the comment the developer added to the description about being sick of us not understanding what this does...
Yeah, I get bored of developers using devspeak and calling users stupid, too.
I love the checkbox in your options that says 'If this one doesn't stay checked, it doesn't work'. Great for a laugh.
Obvoiusly there's a disconnect between this dev and a normal Firefox user.
All I wanted was a selective popup blocker, that would let the resized, toolbar-less windows happen for sites I whitelist.
I've installed this extension & am still unclear as to what it's going to do.
I ran the test that says the popups should all open in a new window, some do some still open in tabs, so that didnt make any sense. Ok, good- these open in new windows- still no explanation as to what it is about them that makes them good rather than bad?

Duplicate reviews were inintentional- Mozilla has a 404 landing page & I thought it didn't go through.

How can you have one for 3.7 and not for 3.6.8?!
Are we all just S.O.L. until Mozilla finishes Firefox 3.7?

I agree with Caraeway that this should be included in the base firefox & that it would be nice if the dev kept up on it.

Tab Mix Plus

Deserves a zero star Rated 1 out of 5 stars

For 3 years this has been the sketchiest of the good ideas that come through here.
I check in every 6 months or so to see if this extension will ever work, and it seems the developer's more interested in adding features that may or may not work than making features already added always work.

Fox Splitter (formerly Split Browser)

Made my 'Live Bookmarks' give me errors when I dropped them into a window.
-Had to give it the boot.

Tab Mix Plus

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Somehow this is the only extension that makes 'single window mode' work, but at the expense of 'tabs open next to current tab. I can use this to enable 'single window mode' while the others don't work, and even though I check the box that's supposed to make the new tabs open next top the one they opened from thay don't. The fix mentioned in update 0.3.8.4 didn't work in miine. The tabs open next to the current one if I uninstall 'Tab Mix Plus' and install the 'Tabs Open Relative' extension, but then I get tabs spawning whole windows because no other extension can make 'single window mode' work apparently. All the additional features included in this extension is bloat in my opinion, I don't use any of it.

Tab Kit

Some functions half working Rated 1 out of 5 stars

This add-on is what I use to make multi-rows because it's simple in that regard.
However I'm unable to give it a thumbs up because its doesn't do what it says it does in another regard.
When I change the settings where it says it can put a close button on the tabs, it doesn't.
At the moment I have 2 out of 3 rows full of tabs, & there's a close button only on the active tab.
Just like if I didn't have this add-on.
Given that this option is functionally useless, I'd like to see it removed from the add-on for a smaller footprint.
