I won't be updating Firefox until Tab Utilities works with the update. FF is pants without Tab Utilities. I can only open about 12 tabs without losing sight of them. Utter cr*p.
How can I help persuade Mozilla to pay this developer and use his code in the main release? Or perhaps Mozilla do not pay? Does the developer prefer to remain independent?
I agree with Bert Glenn below that this Add-on is an essential part of Firefox. Having just one line of tabs and having to scroll left and right to find the hidden ones is not fun. Tab utilities changed all that. It was a great, nay essential, Add-on.It seemed to have stopped working with on 18.0.2 so that all links and search fields open in a new tab, but in fact the option in "Links" to "Force all links to open in a new tab" had somehow set itself to be checked. I did not check it. Since the other checkboxes to control when new tabs are created are on the "Tabs" page/tab I did not think to look on the Links page/tab. It was only when I downloaded Tab Utilities Lite (which alas does not allow for multiple lines of tabs) that I realized that such an option existed. I agree that this should be included in the main distribution of Firefox. I don't know how people can bear Firefox's tabs without this add-on.On more than one computer I find that the "for all links to open in a new tab" is being turned on without my intending to have done so. Is there a shortcut key that I do not know about? Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
Flash and Video Download (which worked on more sites) stopped working. It had a button in the bottom add-on bar. The button ceased to appear.
This add-on adds a button under the video which is so integrated with the YouTube site that you'd think it were part of the site (indeed, it is so integrated you may miss the button).
It also gives the option to download flash (and not just mp4). You have the choice.
The Niggle I mention below, saying that this Add-On does not provide links to the MP4 on YT is incorrect. The download link is there if the mp4 is there to download.
So this add-on is just great.
Simpler than the rest and does the business.
And NO, this add-on does NOT add any malware or adverts.
However there is at least one other site pretending to offer this Add-On but instead (I presume) offering malware, e.g.
So make sure you download/install this Add On from the official mozzilla.org page ADD-ONS page.
However, one niggle...I thought that YT offered a low resolution mp4 file (for all the ipod users perhaps). There seems to be no option to download an mp4 using this Add-on.
Adds Google Scholar to the search bar like it says on the packet.
It would be nice if it had a different coloured icon to differentiate it from google search. I recommend a black and white version of the standard google icon rather than the more arcane google scholar icon used by google itself but either would do.
In the movie showing the Add-on in operation it is a foolproof two click process.
I am finding that if I right click, and then click on add to search bar, a window opens where I can change the name, and icon, and add the keyword MANUALLY.
I managed to add a keyword manually (just do a search for say dog and replace the dog with %s) for flickr creative commons search, but some sites do not tell you the search URL, I think.
(I think that there is a bookmarklet somewhere for erm 'swapping get and post' or somesuch so that the search URL is displayed even when it is is not display by default and I used that to write keywords for maxthon in the past.)
I guess that on some sites the keyword is created automatically and on others it is not. But I have tried flickr, mozillaZine Forums, and the "search for add ons" on this site and in all cases I am being asked to provide the keyword myself.
Since I am not even seeing a "add keyword" option in the search manager this Add-on is a lot better than nothing.
It is crazy that Google ignores both browser language settings, and their own search preferences to relocate ex-pat searchers to a site AND LANGUAGE that they can not understand.
This add-on does the business and has saved me endless frustration. It effects quickdrag too because quickdrag uses the search bar default.
The only problem was that I did not realise I had installed the addon. I clicked the link. Nothing seemed to happen. I clicked the link again and then it complained that a search engine of the same name had already been installed.
You have to change the search engine default from the icon to the left of the search box to the one that says "com" in tiny letters at the bottom.
I am coming to firefox from maxthon. Maxthon allows fine tuning of whether bookmarks, links, homepage, new pages, are opened in a new tab or not. It is nice to be able to open book marks in a new tab in mozilla too. Thank you.
I would also like to have the option to open a new tab in the background. I hate wating for things to load. I want to click them. And then go to the new tabs when I see they have loaded.
So an "open in the background" option please.
I used a browser called Maxthon Classic till recently but I needed to upgrade and came to Mozilla. One great thing about Maxthon classic is its mouse gestures which provide the ability to search text, and open links in a new tab, just by dragging that text or link a little and dropping it. This addon provides that functionality to Mozilla and more. In Maxthon classic dragging an image opened it in a new Tab. In this addon it saves the image automatically which is useful.
It is also faster (probably because Mozilla is faster). I tried other gestures, such as all in one gestures, but the latter required that I first select text and then do a seperate gesture. I prefer the drag effect. It feels like I am dragging the text into an abyss where google awaits.
You have to turn on the search function in the small addon settings screen.
It may do more than I report above but even if not, I am very satisfied.
