Old Lion Fullscreen

Perfect Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This very simple add-on does exactly what the developer says it will do. For Mac users, it makes the full screen button put you in the old type of full screen before they integrated support for Lion's version of full screen, which is dreadfully slow and takes up a new space in mission control with every new window.

I'm really glad someone made this, because I down-graded to FF13 just to get tho old full screen back, but was really not liking the idea of missing out on all the new features and fixes that would be coming in what could have easily been the year before Mozilla finally got around to making this a built in option.

But this fixes all of that!

Desktop

Great, just one annoyance. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I just use this add-on to have a custom background on new tabs and windows. I could just use a local image as the homepage, and use a simpler add-on to push that to new tabs, but when you open a sidebar, or re-size the window, it causes my very carefully cropped image to shrink, introducing ugly blank space.

This add-on does not suffer from that problem, and actually loads a little faster than a local file would. It will keep the image the same size, which is much more visually pleasing.

The only compliant that I have is that, when you don't have any widgets set, there is a message that displays over the background image telling you to right click to add content. There is no way to turn this off, so i have to just add a google search widget and then push it off screen. Luckily, it stays there, so it's just a one time thing after installing the add-on, but I really shouldn't have to do that.

Quick Note

You do have to restart Rated 3 out of 5 stars

EDIT = Ok, so to get the little question mark to show up, you have to restart Firefox. For Windows users, this probably will not matter. For OS X users, you need to be sure to quit the application.

I use the Mac application equivalent of this. So I was glad to see that the Firefox extension was finally made compatible with the latest version of FF.

However, when I click to open the extension, and am presented with the screen that tells me to allow local storage, I am unable to do anything. There is no question mark in my url box.

At this point, this extension is unusable.

Personas Expression

A must have for those using personas Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I wanted so badly to use Personas to customize FF for the longest time after switching from Chrome (for which I made my own themes). FF Themes are impossible to create unless you already know how and have intermediate programming skills. But Personas look utterly terrible on their own. They are just an image with some broad highlights and shadows cast across them where the tabs are. The fact that these elements could not be customized really kept me away from using Personas. The default OS X theme looks ten times better than any Persona no matter how much the image may appeal to me.

However, I was so glad to find out about Personas Expression. It allows you give your Persona the semi-three dimensional look that proper themes have. I don't understand why these features are not built into the Personas extension.

The only thing that I wish were different is the color pallet. It is limited to the 70 colors built into Personas. I'd prefer HSB sliders for deeper customization.

But other than that, this extension is necessary if you plan on using Personas.

FF Fullscreen

Good, just a little buggy Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I just use this extension to keep Firefox in full screen, but retain the tab bar and my "omnibar" (buttons, bookmarks, and url box). I love how much screen space this gives me and this extension means I don't have to constantly switch to full screen with every new window.

However, it is just a little buggy. First thing, when a new window opens, everything is visible for about one second before it switches to full screen. Not a huge problem, just a minor visual irritation. I don't know if that can be helped or not.

The other, more pressing, concern is that this extension doesn't like it when you exit full screen. Occasionally I need access to the menu bar (Mac), and if I take Firefox out of full screen, this extension will (at totally random times) force me back into full screen.

Other than than it appears to work well.
