My Reviews

Classic Compact

Looks like other methods need to be used now Rated 1 out of 5 stars

The author has been absent for a year now. Ah well, these things are provided for free for little thanks... and then real life intervenes.

In the meantime, heavy customisation with the addon "Classic Theme Restorer", such as selecting square-topped tabs helps to reduce wasted space.

Then for the more technically minded, creating your own personal "userchrome.css" (google for that) can get rid of the rest of the wasted space. You do need to experiment with the options and personalise it for the way that you've customised your toolbars -- e.g.: my own userchrome.css contains this:

.toolbarbutton-1 { padding:1px 0px !important; }
toolbar { max-height: 32px !important; margin-top: -3px !important; }
#TabsToolbar { margin-top: -5px !important; }
#toolbar-menubar { margin-top: -5px !important; }

IdentFavIcon

Great - but can we have custom favicons? Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Great idea guys. But if you developers know how to do this then I presume that you must know how to let users specify their own local custom favicons? Please? There's no working addon that does this at the moment.

Bookmark Favicon Changer

Anybody know of a Mozilla hosted favicon changer? Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I've no idea about addon code, but I unzipped it and looked in it. And for example, there was and "update link" to "https://bit.ly/1iMXh3b" which loaded a file with a whole bunch of new urls. Probably all perfectly innocent. But I'd rather trust Mozilla because at least we know who they are. i s there really no way that this could be done through proper channels?

Toolbar Autohide

Excellent. Fixes autohide dysfunction in Firefox 29 Australis. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Well done.

The default fullscreen toolbar autohide in Firefox 29 Australis is really flaky and prone to dysfunction if the toolbars are customised a bit. This addon seems to use a different toolbar hiding method, and it works fine for me.

(I found it necessary to further customise my toolbars by adding the "fullscreen" icon to the right of the navigation bar. That's because only the navigation bar unhides when I move the mouse to the top of the screen, so I can click on the fullscreen icon to take it back _out_ of fullscreen.)

RefControl

Can we have option to whitelist referring site? Rated 3 out of 5 stars

This addon is a nice enhancement to personal privacy, since there's just no need for websites to know where you're coming from. Setting first-party blocking breaks a lot of sites, but there's no need for that because it doesn't enhance privacy, so setting third-party blocking is the way to go. Third party blocking is fine except that a whole mass of paywall newspaper sites watch for the referrer from Google News to enable access to articles referred to from there, so it'd be nice if Google News could be whitelisted, except for the unfortunate fact that it's the referring site, not the site being jumped to. Please add the option to whitelist the referring site and this addon would be perfect.

Murdoch Block

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

As of 17aug11, the UK Daily Telegraph (www.telegraph.co.uk) which is NOT owned by Murdoch is incorrectly blocked, presumably because it's been confused for the Australian Daily Telegraph which IS Murdoch owned.
