As of writing this, YouTube made some sort of change that broke all of the video downloaders that I have installed. They are unable to download YouTube videos. This add-on, however, is somehow able to still download YouTube videos. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (7.22.1-signed).
Every time there's an update, it opens a page at their website with ad(s).
Also tries to access Amazon.com servers every time Firefox is started (Amazon was one of the companies that blocked donations to Wikileaks to help conceal information about corruption and abuses of power that need to be revealed.)
Has many useful buttons.
There are buttons for clearing data (history) and disabling/enabling cookies and those are incredibly useful for me. I've been wanting those buttons for years.
The cookies button even has three modes: on, no-third-party, and off.
I don't know if it's possible but it would be great to have an additional clear-data button that just clears the data (history) with one click instead of bringing up the confirmation prompt.
Minor gripe: After installing the add-on, I enabled some of my other add-ons and their toolbar buttons were gone. I had to add them back to the toolbar.
Works good so far but the main "P" button cannot be moved. There's an option to make it disappear but it can't be moved. Also, right-clicking on the "P" button brings up the Firefox context menu in addition to the add-on's own context menu, and the Firefox menu appears over the top of the add-on's menu.
These are amateur programming errors that cause me to trust the add-on a bit less.
Another reminder of why I love Mozilla. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (220.127.116.11-signed).
As of June 20, 2013, the "0 bytes" problem still exists when trying to download YouTube videos.
Video DownloadHelper isn't the only add-on affected.
"Download Flash and Video" is also affected (in exactly the same manner), and "Flash Video Downloader" might be too.
It's a very good add-on. The only real problem at this point is that it doesn't remember the last folder I saved to, and there's no option for setting it to do so. This is actually a pretty big problem for me and it has resulted in me using this downloader add-on much less than my other installed downloader add-ons.This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.32.1-signed). This user has 2 previous reviews of this add-on.
Just tried it and it had no affect on adf.ly
As of writing this I'm using Firefox version 15.0.1
Works great but doesn't download Rutube videos for some reason. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.17.1-signed). This user has other reviews of this add-on.
Firefox version: 15.0.1
This add-on used to work great but at the moment it does not.
The button for downloading subtitles no longer appears.
I'm hoping the author will update this add-on as it is very useful.
This has been useful for situations in which the Video DownloadHelper add-on is having trouble downloading a video from a particular page. I think both add-ons are great and plan to keep both installed. I hope the authors will continue to support the add-ons.This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.15.1-signed).
At this point it does have trouble downloading vids from some pages though.
Here's an example:
I lowered my rating for this add-on because the MP3 feature (saving videos as MP3) is disabled unless you pay money to enable it.
Charging for Firefox add-ons or add-on features is not cool.
