My Reviews

uBlock Origin

Easy. Powerful. Secure. Confusing names. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

The good
• I love it. It is owned and supported by a friendly community. Not a corporation. More secure because its code is publicly available for review and contributions on GitHub at https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock
• Easy to use. With both basic or advanced modes.
• Lightweight on memory and CPU resources
• More than 12 million users. Including 3.8+ millions users on Firefox and 8.9+ millions users on Chrome
• Clear Manifesto:
......• The user decides what web content is acceptable or not in their browser.
......• The uBlock project does not support Adblock Plus' "Acceptable Ads Manifesto", because the "Acceptable Ads" marketing campaign is really the business plan of a for-profit entity.
......• Users are best placed to know what is or is not acceptable to them. uBlock's sole purpose is to give users the means to enforce their own choices.
• More than 12 million users. Including 3.8+ millions users on Firefox and 8.9+ millions users on Chrome.
• Lots of features
• uBlock Origin has a better track record at fully protecting your privacy, than AdBlock Plus (ABP). There is a controversy around ABP and its related for profit corporation trying to monetize ABP via ad whitelisting. Which means that corporation sales your privacy for profit :( Source at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adblock_Plus#Controversy_over_ad_filtering_and_ad_whitelisting

The bad
• Confusion with the names. Between "uBlock Origin" and "uBlock". For those not familiar with those names, uBlock Origin is better than uBlock. Mostly because as of May 2017 Ublock Origin is still actively maintained and updated. Source at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UBlock_Origin#uBlock_.28ublock.org.29uBlock Compare to uBlock which as not been maintained and updated for more than 2 years, since 2015, and is trying to monetize an open source project. Web Clipper : Easy Screenshot (WebExtension)

Love it. Open Source. Minimal. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

The good
• I love it. It is owned and supported by a friendly community. Not a corporation. So more secure because its code is publicly available for review and contributions on GitHub at https://github.com/schomery/easy-screenshot
• Easy to use. Simply right click anywhere in your browser window. Select "Easy Screenshot" option. Then select "entire page", a" portion", or "visual part." option
• Lightweight
• Very good quality screenshot using PNG format

The bad
• Minimal features

Tip
• If not working double check that you are using Firefox version 57 or more recent. Otherwise this add-on will not work properly. If you need this extension for an older Firefox the older version of this add-on is available at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/easy-screenshot/

Web Clipper: Easy Screenshot

The bad
• Does not ask where to save each screenshot. All screenshots are automatically save to a pre-set folder of your choice. So you can not yet save each screenshot to different folder. After the screenshot is done, you need to do that manually by copy paste each screenshot saved file.

Note
• If you are using Firefox 57+ find the newer version of this add-on Which uses the new API format called "WebExtension" at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/web-clipper-easy-screenshot/

Nimbus Screen Capture - editable screenshots

Potentially not secure, lots of feature, easy Rated 1 out of 5 stars

The good
• Lots of features
• Easy to use

The bad
• Potentially not secure. Because the code is not available publicly. So it can not be review by the public. In other words, there is a risk of abuse. Such as recording screenshots and videos of your private life without your consent.
• It is own by a for-profit corporation called "Nimbus Web Inc". It is not owned by a not-for-profit community. Usually a corporation first priority is to hoard money. Not serve you and protect your privacy.

NoScript Security Suite

Love it. Easy. Essential. Highly Recommended. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

The good
• Edward Snowden endorses NoScript as a countermeasure against mass state surveillance he exposed. Read more at http://securitywatch.pcmag.com/security/321511-snowden-to-sxsw-here-s-how-to-keep-the-nsa-out-of-your-stuff

and

• Allows you to permit which sites and add-ons you really trust to run scripts or track you
• Easier to detect and remove adware
• Also works as ads blocker
• Often significantly speeds up page load and save computer resources. Because unwanted scripts are block. Thus they don't need to load and run.
• NoScript is owned, developed, and supported by a friendly community

The bad
• Initial learning curve. But pass that it is easy to use.

Free Memory 2.0

Love it. Easy. Quick. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Love Free Memory (FM) version 2.0. Easy options to choose from. Lots of features. Including a timer for automated memory clean up, and configuring its panel size to your liking. And FM is quick. Also it works well with Firefox 45.2.0 on Debian Wheezy 7.

As for the challenges. The upgrade path from FM version 1 to 2 could be improve. It's hard to find. Many if not most of the users will miss it. As users have to read the documentation to find the version 2. Most users don't read the documentation of any add-ons. I suggest for the next version 1 update to add a popup offering to user an automated update from version 1 to 2. We would be happy to contribute testing and documentation.

Saved Password Editor

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

The good
* Works
* Lots of features
* Easy to user

The bad
* For some users it's hard to find that extension. Unless you have the direct link to the extension page or you search for the correct keywords. I suggest to the author to add the search keywords: "Remember Password"
