My Reviews

Youtube Subscription Checker

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Clean, elegant interface. Channel list is stored independently of YouTube, allowing you to 'subscribe' to channels without a Google Account.

Only problem I've encountered is attempting to increase the Check Interval - it keeps resetting itself to the default 10 minutes.

Screengrab (fix version)

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Save to disk works after downgrading to Firefox 17 ESR. Much appreciate the efforts of developers on Firefox, but the fact compatibility with this add-on takes precedence speaks volumes about Screengrab's importance. Kudos to Andy for creating Screengrab and making it GPL, and to Alexander and other contributors who've kept it going in more recent Firefox versions.

Download Statusbar

Very slick addon Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Unfortunately, the download status bar remains on top when playing HTML5 videos in fullscreen. Apart from that annoyance and the restrictive licence, this is a well designed addon that seems hard to improve on, and its method of displaying downloads really ought to be a feature of Firefox itself.

Copy Link Text

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Have clumsily highlighted and copied link text zillions of times over the years, and this extension is a little big improvement over that. Tried to donate the very reasonable $1.50 as thanks but PayPal refused to let me log in via this site's payment dialog ('if you receive your security code via text message, you won't be able to complete the transaction'). May be worth considering accepting donations via Flattr.

RefreshBlocker

Worked well a few years ago Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Unfortunately, the web has moved on and many news sites now have their annoying auto-refreshes in JavaScript, which this extension doesn't deal with. Prior to that, it did the job but always fell short of being the ideal solution, as it has no option to globally exclude short refreshes used as redirects.

History Search Sorted

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Works great with 3.0.8!

BatchDownload

A Magpie alternative Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Few download extensions help you efficiently grab all images where the thumbnails don't point to the image files themselves, but to separate pages containing each image. Magpie Tools was one, but that extension is no longer supported.

BatchDownload lets you select thumbnails and use "Build Gallery" to create a single tab containing all the image pages, from which you can "BatchDownload" all those images. As with Magpie, it doesn't let you filter unwanted images, but it nevertheless allows much more efficient downloading for each-image-is-on-its-own-page situations than is possible with extensions like DownloadHelper.
