Memory Restart

Reports incorrect settings Rated 1 out of 5 stars

The CPU issue appears to be fixed but now the reported memory consumption is completely wrong.

I have 2 FF windows open, one shows 707MB, the other 706MB. about:memory reports 1277MB private. Process explorer shows 1319.

Memory Restart

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Unusable on FF 26.
CPU jumps to 100% every several seconds.

Console shows this:
refreshMemory
usingOldMemoryReporter returnValue = false
refreshMemoryNew
refreshMemoryNewCallback aProcess=, aUnsafePath=resident, aKind=2, aUnits=0, aAmount=540528640, aDescription=Memory mapped by the process that is present in physical memory, also known as the resident set size (RSS). This is the best single figure to use when considering the memory resources used by the process, but it depends both on other processes being run and details of the OS kernel and so is best used for comparing the memory usage of a single process at different points in time.
refreshMemoryCommon memoryUsedInMB=515

Once I disabled this addon, the problem stopped.

Additional Chat Protocols for Thunderbird

Dead Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Incompatible with current versions of TB.
Does not work, no support.

Anti Tumblr Infinite Scroll

Doesn't work Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Tried it on a couple of Tumblr "archive" pages.
Don't see the difference.

Google Redirects Fixer

Breaks sites Rated 1 out of 5 stars

There are two problems with this extension:

1) It does not remove all redirects.
For example, using Google's search-by-image: http://tinyurl.com/orq5aqqThe redirect on the images are not removed.

2) More importantly, it completely breaks sites that use google search internally.
For example, https://stackexchange.com/search?q=regex

Linkificator

A solid 5 Stars Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This review is for 1.4.0 and replaces my previous reviews.

Linkificator is an actively supported extension and shows steady improvement between versions. The developer is responsive, takes bug reports seriously and is open to suggestions.

While there is still some room for ongoing improvement, I am comfortable giving Linkificator the highest 5-star rating. Also, I would like to thank the author for the add on and the ongoing support.

Good Job, Marka Pola!

Edit: 1.5.0 took care of most false positives.

Linkificator

4.5 stars Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This review is for 1.3.0 and replaces my previous reviews.

Linkificator is an actively supported extension and shows steady improvement between versions. The developer is responsive, takes bug reports seriously and open to suggestions (that is not to say that the developer will always agree with your ideas, but they will be considered).

In general, this version feels snappier than previous ones, and more usable with the automatic reparsing on on/off and the addition of left/middle/right-click recognition (but see below).

I would like to thank the author for the add on and the ongoing support.

Idiosyncrasies and problems:
* The right-click/left-click operations feel reversed. The expectation is for the left-click to perform the main operation and for the right-click to pop up the menu (ideally, all 3 clicks would be customizable with a "menu" being one of the options).
* False positives (for example: a score of 8.5/10 or a similar math expression would get linkified).

Areas for future improvement:
* Having a separate on/off state for each window/tab (like Linkification).
* Automatic reparsing on Javascript events that reload or hide/show parts of a page (case in point: slashdot discussions).
* Right-clicking on toolbar icon should present a menu with common operations (like Linkification).
* More compatibility improvements (see for example http://piro.sakura.ne.jp/xul/textlink/index.html.en#testcases).
* Balancing aggressive detection, false positives and speed is difficult. Perhaps having several modes (quick, safe, aggressive) will solve that.

To summarize, I would like to give it a better than a 4-star review, but I feel it is not quite yet at the 5-star point. Although, with the accumulation of steady incremental fixes, it is getting pretty close -- I have a feeling that I will amend the review and the mark soon.

AutoPager

No support Rated 3 out of 5 stars

The add-on works most of the time but there are annoying issues and no support on the forum (apart from spam messages)

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.8.0.8).

Search by Image for Google

Workaround Rated 5 out of 5 stars

A previous reviewer wrote:"Does not work with FF18, it just opens up the Google Homepage and no results (even the input box is locked)."

I noticed that behaviour. It happens very rarely, but it is annoying when it does as all subsequent searches will fail.Fortunately, I found a workaround:
Whenever that happens, type something into the google input box and hit enter. Even if the box is messed up and does not show the typed characters, it will still work.
Apparently this will cause the add-on to resume working.

Edit: Stopped happening.

Greasefire

Not maintained anymore.

TinEye Reverse Image Search

Cannot compete with Google Rated 2 out of 5 stars

I started using the TinEye reverse search a long time ago. At the time, they offered a unique and useful service. The add-on was well done, the DB was growing and there was no competition.

Then, Google introduced their own reverse image search. For a while I was running add-ons for both services and checking images on both, but it became evident that TinEye cannot compete with Google's offering. About a month ago I uninstalled the TinEye add-on.

TL;DR version: Use one of the Google reverse search add-ons instead.

Search By Image (by Google)

Buggy Rated 1 out of 5 stars

The "hovering" behaviour cannot be turned off in 1.0.7, which effectively hijacks links on small images.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.7).

Toolbar Buttons

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

The button maker does not work (fails with GW timeout).
The forum is down.

Looks like the developer does not care about this add-on anymore and it is going on pure inertia.

gTranslate

Not working Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Clicking on the button mostly does nothing

Canadian English Dictionary

Crashes FF Rated 1 out of 5 stars

2.0.2 causes random crashes in FF. Do proper QA before releasing a version.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.0.1).

Googlebar Lite

UI customization lacking Rated 3 out of 5 stars

An important missing functionality is the ability to detach the buttons from the search box:
With the original GoogleBar, I have the search box on the "navigation toolbar", to the right of the URL box, while I relocated the rest of its buttons to the Menu Bar, making more efficient use of available space.
Can't seem to do that with "Googlebar Lite" as all its UI elements are bunched together.

(using FF 3.6)

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (4.7.9).

OpenDownload²

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

3.1.10 does not work on two of my machines (Firefox 3.6.18)
It gives the following error:
Error: [Exception... "'<error>' when calling method: [nsIContentHandler::handleContent]" nsresult: "0x805d0001 (<unknown>)" location: "<unknown>" data: no]

May be an incompatibility with some other extension or just a bug.

Rolling back to 3.0.2 solves the problem.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.1.0).

Xmarks Sync

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Every once in a while Xmarks randomly decides that one of my passwords is "inappropriate for the profile" anymore. It then throws a fit and refuses to sync at all until I log in to their website, go over all my passwords and manually add to all profiles the passwords that Xmarks decided to suddenly exclude. Unfortunately it only works when their web site is available (it isn't at the time I write this review).

And to add insult to injury, even when it does work, it doesn't sync passwords because they want you to get lastpass for that.

So, your passwords are uploaded to their server, some synchronization operation does occur there -- since it often fails -- but nothing is saved back to your machine? Smooth.

Avoid it.
