Keep up the good work! Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Previous review:"Could not get this to work reliably. Highlights would show up one time, then disappear next time. Contacted the developer but got no response. Switched to Diigo toolbar and am much happier."This happens to me sometimes also. I use the latest EnterPrise Build = Firefox ESR = 10.0.10. BUT: DIIGO is much less reliable. I have there 10.000 highlights and now it just does not work reliable anymore.

Does this work with your WiredMarker?:

This highlighter saved me! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I looked and looked for a pernanent highlighter to use when studying web pages and finally found this one. I wasn't crazy about the marker colors because they were too dark. Well I just figured out you can change the color of the highlighter! Now I LOVE this add-on. And if I put it in a sidebar, I only have to drag the text to the colored folder I want for the text.

Great add-on. Especially since Highlight isn't good anymore. I even use it with my pc and mac!

Did not work for me Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Can multiple caches of the same page be merged into one? Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Each new loading of the same page requires its own cache, even though the generated cache folders are mostly identical by their content. Is there any way to make the program merge these cache folders into a single one to preserve space?

Disabling caching altogether doesn’t seem to fix the problem and is rather counter-intuitive.

Aside from that, the extension is simply great. There are several things that can still be improved (e.g. shortcuts, a feature for custom rgb colours, mht\html\pdf export, a non-intrusive integration with existing Scrapbook+ directory etc), but other then that, this is exactly what I was looking for for a very long time.

I work in social research and for years I've been trying to find a cross-platform solution for qualitative text analysis. I think Wired-Marker might be just what I needed. It can be easily customized to be used for content analysis of unstructured data.
I think the developers could advertise more the potential use of this addon for social research. I'm sure there would be quite a few people interested in this possibility.
Thanks a lot for this great addon!

Its a good concept for a permanent feature on firefox. Simulates reading on paper and taking notes that tag along through time and cyberspace. Needs some polishing and a little simplification before it can become an integral part of the firefox experience. Really love the handy shortcuts.

any tool for research and collecting data should fully support intuitive keyboard shortcuts. This is the only way for having a productive and smooth workflow.
This one lacks that and is so cluttered. Uninstalled

X-MARKS SYNC Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Great Add-on; invaluable for highlighting information over a wide range of websites, and on a variety of different topics that can be categorized by the color of the highlight, and even more invaluable, being able to search for things by any keyword that pops into mind...that part I love!

By the way, the ability to search ALL data fields is great! The lack of this capability in Mozilla bookmarks drives me crazy! The fact that only the name filed is indexed in Mozilla bookmarks, but not the description field is really stupid. Usually the important keywords you use in a search are in the description field not the name field, yet Mozilla does not index that field!!!??? Maybe you guys could make an add-on that would do that!! Please??, Please?? :)

The one thing that is lacking in WIRED MARKER however is TRUE syncing. The syncing solution described on your website is not a true syncing solution since it really is just manually copying the data file from one computer to the other, with all the perils and inconveniences that make true syncing a much more desirable solution.

I think there is a simple way to make this work with X-Marks ... I use another add-on that also uses sqlite called QuickFox Notes, and it syncs with Xmarks simply by linking the local data file to a bookmark file/folder so that Xmarks can see it. I'm no programmer, but how hard could it be for you to do that? If it could TRULY sync, and do it with the simple click of the X-Marks button, this would be a 5-star add-on for sure!

Though not a big deal, the other thing I think could be improved is to make right-click functions easier & faster by doing away with the TWO submenus (Wired Marker>Marker>Markers). Maybe there already is a way to configure it but your preference GUI is a bit confusing to me. ALl I know is that it would be a lot quicker if there was just one submenu to navigate through instead of two, and on a small laptop, it's a real pain to carefully move the cursor through the two submenus without having it close out and having to know what I'm saying? When you are highlighting information, you want to be moving fast!

Honestly, how does anyone expect to learn anything on the Internet without this add-on?

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Easy to use. Lots of settings. Useful documentations on the author's website.

Would be great to be able to edit the highlight colors. I would be happy to contribute testing for that new feature.

Great idea, could incorporate into x-marks? Rated 5 out of 5 stars

My work requires reading many scientific & engineering papers; this add-on essentially allows me to treat online articles as PDF papers, by allowing commented highlighting.

The only tangible improvement, IMO, would be to find a way to export/serialize the bookmarks into a quick script, and allow easy exports.

As previously mentioned, Google support or even X-Marks would be ideal, but synching could honestly be as simple as copying a flat-file of entries into foreign profile directories.

Useful, But It Can't Output Highlighted Pages Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I've been using Wired-Marker for a few months. It's very useful for doing research. Most of the features work adequately. However, it's not possible to output (export) a page with highlighting, for use outside of a browser.

There are two output options: output with tags or output without tags. I would like to output without the tags since I just want to see the highlighting on the page.

I have tried every option in the output dialog box to get this feature to work. The save file window appears so you can save the file. After that, nothing happens. The file is not saved to the hard drive. Using Firefox's "Save Page As" feature doesn't work either because it doesn't produce a single page with highlights using 'HTML only' as the save option.

This add-on would be better if it could actually export the highlighted pages, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

Arghh Rated 3 out of 5 stars

My brain is very scrambled, so sometime I highlight crap and change my mind. But with this I can't delete it. Why??

Also, this is so difficult to use at first. I mean, can't programmers speak English? But that's not my main concern. So yeah.

Useful tool but it has a heavy performance draw; when you highlight something it causes firefox to practically lock up for almost a complete minute before firefox starts working again.

When you highlight something and tell it to use a colour to highlight it, it makes you do some sort of registering with it, and as far as I'm concerned you shouldn't have to register anything, just colour over the selected text is fine.

All in all, this program would be great if these aforementioned things would get fixed.

I cannot understand the second issue well. Would you describe more detail and send an e-mail to wiredmarker(at)

Great product and fantastic service support!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Wired Marker is a great product. It is extremely easy to use and very well conceptualized. If you have ever visited a page twice and had to re-read the whole text in order to find THAT ONE LINE, Wire Marker is the product for you! Just highlight stuff that you feel is important and it will be there whenever you revisit the page.

In my earlier post I had mentioned that the current version is buggy (see my earlier post for details). Well, it turns out that the problem is limited to Windows Vista systems only.

Nevertheless, the developers are working to get the problem solved and I am promised that future updates will take care of the problem. Meanwhile, Vista users should install the app from

That said, I would like to put in a word for the excellent service BITS Co., Ltd. provides its users. The developers are extremely supportive and reached out to solve my problem almost immediately. They were quick to return with answers and never kept me waiting for long. Finally they provided a fix for the bug that sorted out the issue completely!

5 stars for the service and another five for the product!

Good. But fatal error. Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Useful add-on.
But, when Pop-up window (through Javascript '' ) is opened, this add-on shows below error.

"bitsMarkingCollection.init():TypeError: this.gBrowser.browsers[i] is undefined"

It is critical error, so I can not this add-on. :(

With 2 or more web pages opened, if Firefox restarts, Context Bookmarks will bring errors to Wired-Marker, popping-up an error window and causing Wired-Marker disappear from Menu Bar and Tools menu.

Very, _very_ glad to have Wired-Marker and its "web page highlight" capability again, here on Firefox 4! Thanks much! It's one of the two extensions I use the most. So simple and easy to use! This is one feature that keeps me from seriously considering an iPad (it'll have to support FF, like Motorola Xoom). I leave highlights all over the web. And can even highlight on ScrapBook'ed web pages (my other favorite extension) so I never lose them.
