Needs cleaning up Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Like a ticker tape, the stocks scroll across their own toolbar above the Firefox tabs. Unfortunately, they spend most of their time off the screen, out of sight. The scrolling speed can be adjusted, but the items are still invisible, usually. I'm just looking at a few items, and I'd be happy if they were just centered in their toolbar, instead of moving around and getting lost. My workaround is to open a MarketWatch window. I hate to leave one star, but the programming should be checked for usability before it's released. Good idea, poor implementation. The guy that wrote the review titled "Very Useful Tool" should have let the ticker run long enough; then (s)he'd have seen it disappear.

Right now it's mush Rated 1 out of 5 stars

With Firefox 21:
1) the don't show scroll bar option doesn't work
2) the Apply button doesn't work - ie you constantly have to restart Firefox
3) the Hide on weekends etc option doesn't work
My feedback: scrap the ticker. Just enable user to load up his stocks and allow to view at a click. You'll get much praise.

Very Useful Tool Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I find this to be a very good tool that gives the basic information without a lot of overhead. I recommend it to anyone looking to keep an eye on investments throughout the day

Lightweight Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Indeed. Simply does not work. Added APPL and ^DJI. Scrolls all the way to the left, then simply disappears.
Like another reviewer stated: don't bother. FireFox 14.01

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Frustrating and kinda buggy...
... new stocks added to list would appear when first applied and saved but upon closing and restarting firefox they would no longer appear on the list and stocks that were removed from the list would return.
Toolbar also freezes and at times just scrolls only one stock multiple times.
Tried tweaking scroll display settings with little or no success.
Looking for something a little more stable.

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Great idea, just executed poorly. Stock ticker either crashes or gets stuck randomly, and then stops showing some of the symbols.

Placement of ticker bar is not adjustable. Ticker operation is jittery enough to be a distraction.

Don't bother with this one.

StockFox problems Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Doesn't work well on a XP Computer, it may run fine for awhile, then will freeze, and stop running, or I may get a error 200 and it won't load at all.

I had been using firestox for several years, and liked it, but the firestox web site recently disappeared, so am looking for alternative.

Edit in response to Developer question.

When it freezes, both the Scrolling toolbar stop, and the Ticker Bar at Bottom Right stop.

I did a reinstall of Firefox 10, even deleted all the old Firefox Folders in Program Folder, and User Account Folders, but there was no change.

UPDATE
I removed S&P, and Dow (^DJI )which I had added and the toolbar has not had a Freezing problem since. I think ^DJI was the real culprit, but hope others who may have had a problem can verify it.

I will up my Rating if this works out :), and sorry to the developer if my problem was self inflicted.

Hi there,
Was it just the scrolling ticker that stopped updating? Or does the rotating status bar stop as well?

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

It keeps freezing on me while it is scrolling. It will randomly stop regardless if I am browsing or idle. Only after closing Firefox and restarting, often more than 2-3 times will it start to re-scroll again.

Stock Ticker by Jeremy Gillick (not supported or updated for years) was the best ticker EVER for Firefox.
It is/was the benchmark all current and future tickers should aspire to be.

IT WORKS GREAT!! Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This works great. Finally a replacement for the old stock ticker that works in the newer version of Firefox.

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Day-One I was very pleased (although it was hard to limit the distraction of the "crawl" aspect in my browser window), but on day-two of use the crawl at the top is not updating--has yesterday's data. However the listings in the status bar are updating (as is the "View stocks and portfolio" data). Nothing I have done has gotten the crawl ribbon to update.

Difference amount and percents are not displayed Rated 4 out of 5 stars

It's good, and I agree with "tez1", difference amount and percents of exchange rate (EURRUB=X and etc.) are not displayed. Please correct this fail and extention will be great!

Still Not working Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Still not working for ^DJI symbol. Last update was 11/4/2011. It's acting as though the market is closed.

FF 7.0.1
SF 1.3.2

Added MSFT symbol and it was current as of today.

This user has 2 previous reviews of this add-on.

** UPDATE 11/10/2011: Looks like Yahoo's feed is now updated. **

Yes looks like Yahoo's feed is stale. See this request that stockfox makes (we use ^DJX since Yahoo doesn't expose ^DJI):

http://finance.yahoo.com/d/quotes.csv?s=^DJX,MSFT&f=snk1c6pt1d1

You'll see that the DJX data has not been updated since 11/04. I will try to follow up with Yahoo to investigate.

Very nice and useful, uses Yahoo finance data. Only one thing does not work completely: If I subscribe currency updates (EURCHF=X), the exchange rates are displayed correctly, but the differency to last dayßs rate (amount and percentage) are not displayed.

Good but could be better Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I've been using StockFox for several months and I like it, but it is currently experiency a weirdness. Currently I'm using it with FF 3.6.13 under Linux. Overall, StockFox works quite well. But sometimes the display (ticker) at the bottom of the screen shows data that is several days old. Right now it is Thursday and the display is up to date; but several times today it has shown data from last Tuesday. I'm not sure what triggers this behavior, but I suspect it happens when FF has been idle for a while. Nevertheless, I'll keep using it because I like the features, and it's easy to bring up the "view stocks" display to see the date/time of the most recent update.

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

StockFox 1.3.2 is set so the max version of FF is 4. It does not, be default, support FF 5 or 6. There is also some weirdness happening with FF5. The ticker toolbar can be shown but is frequently empty. In that case, the first two contect menu options, "View Details" and "Edit stocks and preferences..." lead to empty windows. wrt the previous complaint about a 15 minute delay, there is nothing which stops the complainer from paying for real-time data.

Great App Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Great Application for keeping tabs on current shares you hold.
I especially like the alert when price reaches certain value and would give 5 stars if the alert allowed an upper (shares up) and lower limit (shares down) rather than just one value.
Is there any chance this could introduced, pretty, pretty please?

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

It's a shame this seems to be the only working stock ticker around for Firefox (4). Have been using it for about a month now. I want something better, but cannot find any suitable replacement.

Problems:
- Stocks are delayed by 15min or more due to unchangeable Yahoo data source.
- Only way to force a refresh the stock data is to RESTART Firefox. You heard me, Ctrl+Alt+Del, kill process and then boot it up again.
- 25% of the time it starts up it results in "ERROR 200" (This plugin has misunderstood that 200 means "OK" in the HTTP protocol.)
- It stops updating after a few hours, say 1-2. Mostly visible if you have multiple stocks, then they stop switching in the statusbar and you know you're out.
- The options are confusing. Enabling "Details->Allow editing of display site stock symbols" makes you have 2(!) fields in the stock editing dialog where you may enter the stock symbol. Which one that is used when requesting data and which one that is used for display is up to question - who bets on "Ticker Display Name" and who bets on "Symbol for Stock Display"?

Pretty darn good Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Stock fox is pretty darn good. I have one peeve, or feature request. Frequently, stockfox seems to fall way behind on stock updates. Probably due to my wireless changing often and the connection getting killed and maybe not restarted properly. I think it would be super if there was some kind of manual update button or menu. Maybe a single-click on the toolbar ticker, and/or an item in the contextual menu.
