The Best One by Far. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

First to WistML, a "feature request" from you is not a "bug". I've tested all the listed add-ons likes this and this is the best one by miles. I use this constantly in Firefox 32+ and Palemoon 25.x with no problems, whatsoever. Plain and simple, it let's you quickly save a selection or multiple selections of text to a file with a self-tailored informative header at the beginning of the file (Page URL, Title, etc.) with three added bonuses... If you don't enter a default download folder, it remembers the last download/save folder, so you can maintain momentum... you can save selections to the same file repeatedly by appending to the file, rather than overwriting (better yet, if you have the options set to "save...", then if you hold CTRL while clicking the "save text.." command in the context menu, it will append to the file, rather than overwrite it (giving you on-the-fly control of how your selections will be handled). Last, but not least, it shows a small "Save Complete" dialog, after each save and if you click this, it will automatically open the file, so you can make any adjustments you'd like (without having to navigate to it manually).

For the header, it assigns variables to different aspects and then you have the choice of sticking with the default header/info for the files created or make your own (the latter is preferable, as the default doesn't make a lot of sense). It is true that you can't repeat the variables more than once, but I can't really see where that makes sense, either. I set mine to write the Page Title, 2 carriage returns (CR/LF x2 for a single space, #'s), the page URL (so I can find the original page easily, if need be), CR/LF, the divider, then 3 CR/LF for a double-space before the information/details/text... which is a very useful header for downloads, research, etc.).

Since it doesn't seem to be updated anymore, it would be nice, if someone would pick up the proverbial baton with this one. It's worth maintaining, plus it could use a couple minor changes... for one, it would be nice, if there was an option or shortcut key that would prevent the header from saving, when appending to a file (which usually means, I have to go back into the file and remove it, since there are 2 now... luckily, that's a pretty simple/fast matter with the clickable "complete dialog".... and, to a much lesser degree, it would be nice to have a little more control or more options with the header. Still yet, these are minor and don't impact the fact that this add-on does this better than "Save Text to File" or the others. It's saved me a lot of time, both when researching and for downloading multiple anythings.

line breaks Rated 4 out of 5 stars

A good addition. But version 31.0. She does not preserve line breaks.
For example the site
http://www.ahyasalam.com/play_song.php?songmd=b6199d78c4f09a25806ee23df3884cc9&lang=AR
Copied lyrics are brought in one part without line breaks

Good but has bug. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Good addon, but it would be better if the variables could be used more than once. For example, when I use
( <a href="%url%">%url%</a> ) to try to write out a nice link, I get "%url%" as the anchor text, instead of a repeat of the actual url. Sooooo close to wonderful.....

Very good good add on that works well. Would be even better if it had an option to save hyperlinks too. At the moment it just saves text as "Go here for more info", but if it could save as "Go here[http://www.example.com/] for more info" it would be perfect.

Nice but could be more flexible. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

stl could be made more flexible. For example:
* let user configure a pattern to compute file name (instead of a check box "choose page title")
* option to save selection as HTML (à la SaveSel).

The thing that make this app different from similar ones is that it directly saves into a file.

Regarding other aspects, other add-ons are better. For example, several other users writing review here actually needed "Easy Copy" or "SaveSel".

I chose "Easy Copy" instead because it allows to combine many use cases that would otherwise need several add-ons (though Easy Copy does not directly save to file).

Depending on your needs you might prefer one or the other.

Can I save hyperlinks in HTML - as simple text in TXT-file (not save only names of hyperlinks)?
For example:
HTML - Google (href=www.google.com)
TXT-file now - Google
TXT-file let it be - Google (www.google.com)

Hi, would it be possible to save the selected piece of HTML code?
I need such feature urgently :)

Better as html clippings for small size Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Thank you very much! I used it on Puppy Linux 5.2.8 with Firefox 8.0, Dropbox, combined with FF-Addon GrabmyBooks - txt ----> epub and/or shared with Gmail - copy and paste directly. Small size and nice formatting for quick sharedables information.
*small size
*offline/online usage
*append clips from multiple sites/content in one txt file
*privates sharing
*no html-trouble (coding, formatting and so on...)
*quick

quite useful. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Very useful little tool Rated 4 out of 5 stars

A very useful tool that can save you a lot of time if you often copy and paste pieces of text into a collection. E.g., if you want to archive everything you post to forums in a single file.
Here's some proposals for future versions:
- append text on top of a file instead of at the bottom, to put items in reverse chronological order (i.e., most recent first);
- add a hotkey so you can use it while keeping your hands on the keyboard (should be customizable);
- give this a more informative name, such as "SendToFile" (which I guess is what "stf" stands for).

That I need! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Very usefull. I save notes to folder that synced with mobile device.
One note. Not always page title can be used as a default file name. There are may be special characters in the title.

This the great addon. But, one bug is present.
If i mark "Enable default storage directory" & mark a directory, then mark "Save file to default storage directory without prompt", NOTHING HAPPEN? Addon don't save a .txt file with this configuration!

UTF8 with BOM (optional) Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Good extension, but the issue said by gokors (on October 18, 2010) about incorrect encoding in a result file still exists. That problem may be solved without a great effort - by adding an option "generate file encoded in UTF8 with BOM". At this moment files are generated without BOM, and this causes errors in some other software.

amazing product Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Super useful! newest version has goodfornothing's request on December 19, 2010 to append and even lets you pick the file in the options so that it's just one right click to save each selection. Really great!

Author is very responsive to suggestions.

In addition, a little request...
Would be good if this add-on could add text to an already saved file, instead of creating new files only.

There's another add-on which has this feature: "Auto Context", but I like yours because is pretty simple and has just what I need: saving selected lines as .text files. Your add-on reminds me a good old (now dead) called "Plain Text To Link".

I miss it so much :P
Thanks!
