Firefox Ruin this Fav Add-On Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I loved this add-on!! Firefox, stop making the best add-ons useless! It was great while it lasted. Not sure the updates to FF are worth losing sure a fine add-on.

So far, so perfect Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I so love this add-on, I even don't dare to upgrade to Firefox 12.0, because I'm not sure it's compatible.

Seems to work with Firefox 8 Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Seems to work okay with Firefox 8.0 (the latest stable version). There appear to be glitches (Firefox minimizes itself during startup! etc...). Roomy bookmarks (the alternative) appears to be okay though that also has random freeze ups and crashes:(

The other alternative Smartest bookmarks is okay:

For those who can't get this addon working with Firefox 8: Try out your luck and Install the addon compatibility reporter first. This will enable all addons (including the incompatible ones).

It's a great add-on but please update, it doesn't work for Firefox 7.

Do *NOT* extract Rated 5 out of 5 stars

When you get the XPI, then (we'll use 7-Zip as an example) right-click on the file and select "7-zip > open archive". When you see your list of files, right-click on the rdf and select "edit". Find where is says MaxVersion and change that to 8.0* and save the text. 7-Zip will tell you it's been updated so tell it yes. Then just drag the xpi into Firefox. Should then install for you properly. :-)

You can not install this extension because it looks damaged Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Hallo,
I did the instructions of justtryingtohelp, Ramon & 101000. I used 7-zip to extract the files, made the changes then re-zipped them.
I renamed the resultant file from .7z to .xpi as greysts wrote on 29.3.11.
When I tried to add it by FF I got the answer: "You can not install this extension because it looks damaged".

I did also with WinRar and I got the same anwer.

I would really appreciate advice & solution.

still works - indispensable Rated 5 out of 5 stars

(THANK YOU justtryingtohelp! your tip worked perfectly!)

this is one of those add-ons i really missed once i upgraded to 4.0... now i'm on 7.0b, and with a minor tweak to the xpi (changing the max version number; i made it 8.0) it works again! there are so many imitations of this add-on now, but this one is by far my favorite. highly recommended.

Still the best Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I still prefer this extension to any of the replacements that have been offered. Here are instructions to make Smart Bookmarks Bar work with FF6. (Copied from a review written by "Ramon" 5 months ago.):

1) download the .xpi file ( Rightclick on add to firefox and choose Save as..)
2)go to the .xpi file and open it with a zip-like program (I used winrar)
3) edit install.rdf, (in notepad) replace 3.1b2 with 6.9 ( in maximum version of ff
)4) Save the document
5) Go to the new firefox button; and choose addons
6) in the right corner you will see a settings icon, click that and choose install addon by file
7) Browse to your file and let firefox install the addon. Restart and enjoy this great addon in FF6

Icons appear in plain white Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Hi,

I noticed that in Firefox 3.6.x, smart bookmark toolbar does not show icons until I click on the icon to go to that page. Then and then only it picks up the icon corresponding to that website. However, if I close Firefox and reopens, all icons except gmail disappears.

Does anyone know a solution for this?

Thanks,

Madhawa

There is a better version at https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/smartest-bookmarks-bar/ ... Roomy BB is just a tweaked version of Smart BB, and it uses the same inefficient and fragile userChrome hacking. Smartest BB looks like it's a total rewrite; the code is not nearly as hackish and you don't have to restart your browser just to change a setting!

Have been a fan of Smart Bookmarks Bar for years now... I am so glad that it is still available, yet under a new name. It sounds like the new one has a little more to it. Hope it just as nice and works well! (See NOTES in the description of the extension!)
Thanks Remy!

The last update for Smart Bookmarks Bar was in February 17, 2009!

There is an add-on, offering identical feature, called "Roomy Bookmarks Toolbar". People here might call it a rip-off, but it works with FF4.
Don't get me wrong, I love Smart Bookmarks Bar (Been using it for years), but move on people.

Ps. I will be back when Smart Bookmarks Bar get an update!

Thanks Ramon Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Works again. Missed it so much! Real update would be great.
