Why was Quo Vadis? created?
I developed the Quo Vadis? extension because I couldn't stand it anymore that surfing the web became a mystery tour. "Just click on this obscure link here, yeah go ahead, it's okay." The web is full of beautiful, fun, and exciting things, but it is possible to end up in places where you wouldn't want to end up, if given the opportunity to see the location beforehand. You may not approve of it. Or maybe you're just not interested in what the final URL indicates. Or you do want to visit the URL, but not via the advertising mechanism that is glued in between the short URL and the final URL. The most important reason however, is openness. I understand the need e.g. for shortening Google Maps URLs, but navigating web URLs should be transparant for everybody.
Added in version 1.1.0:
- the ability to start the URL-interrogation from a selected piece of text that consists of a valid URL.
- the ability to open a URL listed in the popup in a new tab.
What's next for Quo Vadis?
What's next is yet to be determined. Feel free to submit comments or suggestions!
