Must have Rated 5 out of 5 stars

When this add-on was not updated right after a FF upgrade, I realized how much I need this extension. I use it all the time, and no other extension could replace it.

Firefox 6? Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is a great add-on, a must have for me. Can you tweak it for Firefox 6?

Hey, great thanks for updating the plugin for Firefox 4 quickly (it's in the https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/open-link-in/ section until reviewed for security), it was just not the same browsing experience without it.

With the help of this little handy add-on I eliminated "Open in new window" option from context-menu and added much more useful - "Open in the same window". Very convenient browsing now, thanks!

Firefox 4 ? Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Hi, are you going to release a Firefox 4 version ? OR do you know any other addon doing the OPEN LINK HERE job ?

Thanks.

Integrate "take me to this url"? Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I seem to need to use "take me to this url" add-on often. That add-on allows the quick opening of highlighted urls in text into new tab. Unfortunately, it has not been updated for latest FireFox version. I wonder if adding the same functionality to "Open link in..." add-on would be synergistic?

Does what i want. And it is even localized in german!. I wish more settings, e.g. deactivating each new menu entry.

Simply great! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Thanks a lot, Anton! I’d always feel annoyed by websites forcing to open a new window. At least, thanks to Firefox it was merely an »open in new tab« but still I don’t like this behavior. Now with your »open here« command it’s history!
Especially beautiful is the additional setting to group all »open in« commands into one contect folder, that’s smart, too! I would even love to have this very same functionality added to my left klick on links. (Do not even know if that’s possible at all ... Is it?)
Anyhow, thank you deeply.

Re: Simply great!

Hi Mateo, thanks for your comments! Sorry, I don't know of any way to force Firefox to open links in the current tab when you left-click, neither via an Options (about:config) preference, nor using a keyboard shortcut. You might find it useful to know in advance whether a link is going to try to open in a different tab/window so that you only need use the "Open link here" option when necessary: see http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=118365&start=45#p1952435

Works especially well when customized with Menu Editor (http://menueditor.mozdev.org/).
Quite a useful add-on.

Very nice extension. The only thing I don't like about it is the 'Open Link Here' menu item (don't most people know how to click on a link these days). It would be nice to be able to hide this option.

Purpose of "Open Link Here" item

:-P The "Open Link Here" item enables you to override links which are pre-programmed to open in a new window, an irritating authoring habit left over from the earliest days of the web but which seems to be ever more widespread.

You can hide this menu item -- and more -- by using the Menu Editor add-on at http://menueditor.mozdev.org

Sun's code is working but
there is a problem (minor)

Although the opened background windows is not in focus, it displays itself in focus in taskbar.

So to open the background windows u have to first click it to minimize then click again to open it in focus.

You can see it yourself

Fixed in version 1.5.1

Version 1.5.1 fixes the problem with opening background windows, and also fixes the taskbar button issue. All users of 1.5 are advised to upgrade to 1.5.1.

Multiple links? Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Great add-on, but didn't the previous version off multiple link capability? Thanks...

re: Multiple links

I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but no functionality has been dropped, so the answer to your question is probably 'no'!

suggestion Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Suggestion: Right-clicking an item in the Bookmark menu opens a context menu with the options to Open in a New Window or Open in a New Tab. It would be nice if this add-on added the background window and background tab options to the menu.

Very useful add-on.

Thanks for the suggestion. I shall consider for the next version!

Scratch my opinion, I downloaded Menu Editor. Superb App!!! but you still should add some minor configuration :)

Superb plugin! But, do you think you give the option to select which items to have added? I don't care for "Background Window" or "Background Tab", I only want "Open Link Here". I know there is one other plugin that only supposed to do "Open Link Here", but it doesn't seem to work with the released firefox 3.0.

For the "background window" issue, just add these lines at the end of "openlinkOpenNewBackgroundWindowWith" function:

setTimeout( function () {
newWindow.removeEventListener('focus', openlinkDoWindowFocus, false);
}, 1000 );

Thank you! Epiphany has the ability to open a link in the current tab, and I use it 50 times a day! Nice to have it for Firefox now too!
