Works where other plugins don't Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Most popular plug-ins like 'Video DownloadHelper' don't download some Youtube videos (probably due to some restrictions) so I was looking for their alternative. This plug-in does it well so far.

Ok but some features don't work Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I can only download videos by clicking on the toolbar (it is rather slow) Either the download button that is supposed to appear and the download via context menu doesn't work on Dailymotion.

Works well;does the job but it may slowly use up or eat RAM if left enabled.

I've disabled this add-in for now, until I need it again, and Firefox RAM usage is around 200 to 300k instead of going up to over a gigabyte.

From 36.0 update, downloads does not start if download location is configured "Save videos in" or "Firefox's default download location". "Always ask" still works fine.

A right-click-on-video-link downloader is exactly what I'd been hoping for for years, and this addon would be fantastic if it worked at least most of the time. Unfortunately, it only seems to work on maybe 20% of the links at YouTube whenever I try to download videos. (As has been mentioned elsewhere below, most of the videos it ends up "downloading" complete instantly with a file size of 0.) But I always try it first, because I hate YouTube's auto-play/load and prefer to avoid it if possible. I usually end up using the Download YouTube Videos as MP4 addon button though, because it works every single time. Flash Video Downloader - YouTube Full HD Download is another good one that I usually use for sites other than YouTube. (I have five video downloader addons, and have used others as well.)

01/Mar/'15 UPDATE:
It seems the right-click menu option hasn't been working at all for the past week or so. (Fortunately, my main downloading addon mentioned above is still working just fine.) The videos I've tried downloading with this addon recently, unlike in previous cases where the file immediately showed completion at "0", now don't even seem to get to the point where it shows a completion of 0. I attempt the download, and then nothing happens at all, even though my browser lists the download, thus confirming that a command has executed...

Update:
It seems like Youtube has broken this and other downloaders. I get a lot of 0 byte downloads lately.

Wow, just what I have been looking for. No other Youtube downloader can allow you to download from embedded videos on other sites without going to Youtube first. This one can! It even has a setting to find HD videos if available. Kudos!

Working great. It's like a shining day here

Worked on the First Attempt Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I tried this video add-on for the first time today, so admittedly my experience with it is very limited. I wanted to download a few videos from an author's website, rather than logging on to YouTube itself. Further, I wanted to obtain the hi-def versions of these videos, rather than YouTube's default resolution.

You must have Adobe Flash Video installed in your browser to view most on-line videos. In my experience, it does not cache .flv files to your hard drive, so you cannot watch a video and then retrieve it from your browser cache, because it isn't there (I am thinking of VideoCacheView, for example). Most of the other YouTube downloaders I've tried have given me mixed results, usually deficient in one way or another.

There are three things I love about this add-on:

1. It actually does download YouTube videos to your hard drive with no "jumping through hoops."
2. You can set an option so that it downloads hi-def by default (if available).
3. It inserts a button on the web page you're visiting beneath each video on that page - even web pages that merely *link* to YouTube videos - that you can click to start the download to your hard drive.

Additionally, it automatically converts the Flash format (.flv) to mp4, which makes it easier to watch the downloaded video whether you're using a desktop or a tablet or whatever. If you were to combine this download helper with a video-conversion app, you could port the videos to any platform.

I highly recommend it.

Version 1.3.3 beta 3 Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I installed the latest beta version at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/file/181616/mp4_youtube_downloader-1.3.3b3-fx+sm.xpi?src=dp-btn-devchannel. I tested it on 2 vidz already, and they downloaded fine.

August 10th update: It seems to have fizzled out.

August 23rd update: Seems to be working again for most videos.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.3.2.2.1-signed.1-signed).
