Why was McAfee Secure URL Shortener created?
McAfee has joined the URL shortening game (alongside known favorites such as bit.ly, saf.li, ow.ly, etc.) with their new service, mcaf.ee. This service is designed to provide the web community with piece of mind knowing that any link referred to by mcaf.ee is secure, containing no malware and not pointing to a malicious site.
To celebrate this exceptional service, I've developed a Firefox add-on which makes using this service a breeze.
What's next for McAfee Secure URL Shortener
Future versions of this add-on will hopefully include:
-Click statistics on short URLs
-A preview for any existing mcaf.ee short URLs
-Alternate access via a toolbar button
-A mechanism for checking the current page and page links in the background and flag any malicious links with an icon
