Mozilla killed it by wrecking the Add-on Collector! Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I thank the developer for making what once was a great add-on. Now after reading the earlier review I do wonder if it was behind some of the recent screwy behavior though. What has happened is they killed the add-on collector which enabled this one to work. The Add-on Collector had been getting steadily worse- and in recent months had totally shut down before they put it out of it's misery .This- combined with an endless list of mistakes, bugs and other problems ever since Mozilla started their suicidal "rapid release" policy- completely killed collections as we know them. It was a good ride while it lasted...

Was very handy (5*) for developers until 1.0 when the uninstall, disable, and enable were removed. I have patched it to add install again and hope to add enable/disable back also. Hopefully the developer will accept the patches. See http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=1780295&p=11755691&hilit=patch#p11755691

I have been using this add-on for one year. .
I have been helped.

<Phenomena>
1. To add a new toolbar to Firefox
2. To install this add-on
3. The new toolbar will disappear

<I can confirm>
1. Safe mode to Firefox
2. To install one add-on
3. I will confirm that the new toolbar disappears

I repeated 2 and 3.
I have to install this add-on.
Then,
"New Toolbar" had disappeared.

Phenomenon that occurs with a probability of 100%.

I think I can finally reproduce and confirm this bug thanks to another similar report. I wish this issue has been reported on the support forum which would allow me to quickly reproduce it. Bug has been added to known issues.

Thanks for your review.

UPDATE:
This bug is now fixed.

"What's wrong with sexuality?" Has nothing to do with what the addon does, that's all.

This is how Mozilla should have done the Add-on Collector right from the start! Thanks a lot, I was really missing the batch functionality until now!

Outstandingly Useful Rated 4 out of 5 stars

What a most useful addon! Did exactly as described, though with a minor apparent hang. But I understand this as the addon itself warns me it can happen due to the way addons install. So.. yeah. Great stuff!

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.9.6).

Yeah, there's nothing we can do about that hang now because it's Firefox itself taking its time to collect installation data from the web, piece by piece. This probably can change with FF4 because it will provide (and promote) an alternative, asynchronous installation path, so all this housekeeping stuff is going to work in the background while the user can go on with their browsing, though I have yet to see how it's going to work overall, when I have a copy of Collector fully compatible with FF4 to play with.
Thanks for your review, I'm really touched by all the positive comments.

Not yet compatible with TB 3.1.3. Pleazzzzz!! Thanks

Resolved!

Version 0.9.6 which is a compatibility update for both TB3.1+ and AC1.2.1, is now under review at AMO. I appreciate that they were very responsive in publishing recent ME update to 0.9.5 and think it will not take much time for this new update to go public and available for auto-update.

Needs a better name Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This addon makes"Addon Collector" a 5 star addon!!
Massive Extender is a dumb name why not use "Add-on Collector Extender"
It should be merged with "Addon Collector"

Thanks! :)

Thanks for expressing your opinion. Mozilla did not contact me about integrating this add-on into their stuff and I don't think they will in the near future since I bet they have (or will soon have) their hands full migrating the collector to the brand new add-on manager engine rolling out for FF 4.0.
As for the name, it may seem a little too silly or flashy, but I feel it's hardly offending to bother changing it now; in fact I was ironic about my own hoarding passions in respect to add-ons which tended to eventually make the collector almost unusable, because it is a real slouch when opening and updating large collections, and I managed to stuff 50-60 items in some, including many ones which I don't use much but seemed just too good to miss :) Yet, I do value your input, thanks.

About time Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Ok so I haven't even tried this yet, but I'm giving 5 stars for the concept alone.
I like to create a new default profile when there's a new version of Firefox released (not incremental updates) and it's a major chore rebuilding my add-ons (I use a lot) so I'm pretty psyched about your extension and barring any major issues (I doubt they'll be any) I predict that Massive Extender is going to be pretty popular.
Not only for the purpose that I mentioned, but it will allow others to compile collections to install or install whole collections for friends etc.
Nicely done.

By the way,
You can use the AMO forums or the mozillaZine ones as a place to provide support for your add-on's users. Just write a post about your add-on and add a link to that post here on AMO for your support link.
