OK as a replacement... Rated 4 out of 5 stars

...now that the original stopped working with newer versions of firefox, but has some issues. I just filed https://github.com/simonlindholm/locationbar2/issues/3 for example.

"OK as a replacement" was roughly was I was aiming at, yes. :)

I don't actually use the addon myself; the story behind it is that someone asked me a while ago to repair the things that were broken with Locationbar², and it seemed worth spending a day doing.

I don't foresee myself adding more features to this addon, but you could check if Advanced Locationbar does more of what you want and maybe contact its author. It's open source at bitbucket: https://bitbucket.org/veg/advlocbar/src

Would love to see more of the Locationbar² features Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Good effort, but the name is misleading. It does only one of the things Locationbar² did, dropping several features that made me love the old addon. I loved the domain bolded and shown in red, with the rest shown in black. I loved the graphical separators instead of forward slashes. The only thing this replacement does is linkify the segments, but it does that well.

Very useful Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Very useful extension, does *almost* everything locationbar² used to do, but still lacks some customizing option (domain color) that would make it even more useful.

works ok, but doesn't handle domains properly Rated 4 out of 5 stars

you can't click to remove a sub-domain, so you can't go from "sub.domain.com/dir/file" to "domain.com"

smart location was the best, but it's no longer maintained

Thank you for updating this wonderful extension for recent FF versions. This makes navigating so much faster and easier. Works without problems and without the error console entries (from the old original), which confused me a little.
