Great extension! I've used it for years. Works perfectly with gVim in Linux. And can work with the new Gmail by installing the extension from oldcompose.com

A vastly superior effort! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I can't express sufficiently what a great add-on this is. There are some detailed instructiuons for its setup for Linux & Mac on Wikipedia:

Use w/ TextMate and Mediawiki! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

It's All Text works great for me with Firefox 14 on OS X Lion to edit Mediawiki with the now free and open source Textmate.

Great Addon, Doesn't work well on GMail(Standard view)) Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This is a great addon that works well on most websites. But, in case of GMail, It works well only when you use basic HTML view.

If you use the Standard view, and try to compose an email, It's all text allows you to edit the address and the subject fields; However, you cannot edit the body of the email using It's all text.

I do most of my work on GMail. I need It's all text to work in GMail. Is there a workaround for this? If yes, there is a monetary contribution coming your way.

This addon causes the "Send" buttons to disappear from a site I use Rated 2 out of 5 stars

I installed this strictly for the purpose of using it at AllPoetry.com, where I critique poems posted by numerous people. It actually works for this, and very well. However, while this addon is enabled I am unable to use the Instant Messenger functionality at the site. So if someone sends me an IM, I have to disable this addon in order to reply, and then reenable it in order to use it for critiquing posts. Pretty annoying.

If not for this, I would give it five stars and send a donation.

Filing bugs...

If you can file a bug at http://github.com/docwhat/itsalltext or contact me at http://docwhat.org/email I'd appreciate it. I'll take a look into what's going on. I'm not familiar with AllPoetry.com but IAT should *never* remove buttons.

Love this app Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I love this app. I have been using it for years. It is one of the things keeping me in FF.

I am running into a weird issue though, I think I am the only one experiencing it though because I have looked searched and haven't seen anyone else with the issue.

Lately though I have been getting this error:

********************
Component returned failure code: 0x8007000e (NS_ERROR_OUT_OF_MEMORY) [nsIFileOutputStream.init]
[Break On This Error]

Filtered chrome url chrome://itsalltext/content/cacheobj.js
(line 302)
********************

Anyone have any ideas? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the add-on but no luck. I also flushed my browser memory cache but that didn't help either.

Excellent Addon. A quick suggestion: Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Excellent work, this works brilliantly! A note you may want to add, whether to your preferences, docs, or whatever else, is that stylish needs to have the about:config entry extensions.stylish.editor set to 1, not 0. This tells stylish to use a plain text box for the popup editor, and allows It's All Text to actually update.

Meta - lost my review :-( Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I just typed a review using my editor and it got totally lost - there was a blank review until I edited and typed all this.
So one star off.

edit: Hmm very strange, the reply by Christian shows my earlier review, which didnt get onto the mozilla site! Anyway, thanks christian for your reply. I'll check out the wiki, and add a bug ticket if this happens again in a reproducible manner. I put back the star.

That's weird, I got this email for your review...

This is the email I got for your review. I came here to respond and saw that the review got lost. Very weird:

> Great add on. Didnt realize how much I missed this until I actually thought one day "wonder if there is an addon to do this", and lo and behold.

1. I wish I could make it work for those, too. But they hide the textarea they submit (if they have one, some don't). The textarea may not be updated until submit time, and finally, most don't accept updates in the textarea themselves.

2. It's because Firefox cannot subscribe to filesystem events to detect the change immediately. Instead, it just checks every few seconds (2 or 3) and then, only if the page that has the texarea has focus. :-(

3. I agree. If you want to help by either outlining what should be done or even writing the documentation at http://github.com/docwhat/itsalltext/wiki I'd appreciate it.

Ciao!

If It's All Text dies with an "exited with a status of 1" error in .deb-based flavors of Linux like Ubuntu, here's how to fix that error.

To see if this will fix your error, run this command:

sudo aa-status

If you get output like "14 profiles are in enforce mode" then these instructions will work for you - continue with the following steps.

Look in the /etc/apparmor.d/ folder for a file called (or starts with) usr.bin.firefox.

Edit that file with your favorite editor using superuser priveleges. You'll need to add a line that points to the editor that you configured It's All Text to use. In my case, that's kate, and the path to kate's binary is /usr/bin/kate.

Using the above path, add one or two lines into the middle of usr.bin.firefox, like this:

# I added this on 2/17/2012 to allow firefox access to the kate binary for the It's All Text addin
/usr/bin/kate ixr,

The line that starts with # is just a comment. The /usr/bin/kate portion must point to your editor. The ixr portion gives Firefox permission to run your editor. The comma at the end of the line is required.

To make this change be seen by Firefox, either restart your computer, or run this command:

sudo /etc/init.d/apparmor restart

Great extension Rated 5 out of 5 stars

but it would be nice if you could add a preference for when to clean out the edit directory. Looking at the code, I see it cleans everything over a week old; but it would be nice if there was a preference to change that to the user's choice (i.e. on next restart, one hour, six hours, one day, etc.). That should be an easy change as you could just plug the preference amounts (days, hours, minutes, seconds, or all zeros for next restart) into the line that calculates the last_week variable.

Top extension Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I use this extensively with TRAC at work, since TRAC has ridiculously small text-entry boxes. Tried an extension which resized the box in-screen, but this is both simple and effective. Gvim launches a treat!!

It's also getting passed around amongst co-workers. Well done and thanks a million.

One of my key plugins for firefox. (The other would be noscript)
Unfortunately had problems working lately. 1.6.1 and 1.6.2 are broken.
It is possible to download 1.6.3 even if it is not reviewed yet and
that works again!

Thanks!

Should be fixed in version 1.6.2....

I apologize for breaking IAT with version 1.6.1....I have deleted it from AMO and 1.6.2 should fix that problem.
