I really like this, and I like that existing stylish addons for the home page and new tab page work with this. It's very ingenious.

I'd like it if the Firefox logo could remain at the top of the page when the nine previews are shown. Possibly scaled down.

The previews are scaled down in the newer Firefox builds, so to keep parity with that, it should give you more room.

Thanks for the review man! I'm actually releasing a new version right now to support FF31+ as they changed up the new tab page. I need to be updating this again later this year as they move to Electrolysis. I hope to drastically imrpvoe it there, probably replace this with an add-on called NewTabManager which allows you customize new tab page by putting the tools on the bottom, and manually setting thumbnail url's etc etc

salaam

your addon is great.

there is only one ask of you to improve it .
let the user to control every frame inside the homepage and add his/her interest there. ( i mean : there be a field to get address from user for each frame inside the homepage)

by default this procedure is automatic and there will appear some problem ( I wait for many weeks but some webpage I use to go to it never come in my homepage frames )

thanks

hey,
I read your answer to "redeagle" user and find it out .
I think I should manually change contents of "browser.newtabpage.pinned " in the "about:config" page.
thanks again

WaSalaam ;)

Thanks for the review. You can actually manually update thumbnails. You can bookmark a page, and then go to new tab page and then drag from bookmark to the thumbnail. Or you can load a tab with the page you want to thumbnail, then you can drag the icon from the url bar to the tab of a new tab page, and then once tab changes to the new tab page, drop it on a thumbnail. :)

Excellente extension Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Merci!

i am not sure if this is the true purpose of this add-on or I understood it wrong. I thought, with this add-on, whenever you start a new tab, it would open up any homepage you set in Firefox homepage setting, but the reality is, it only opens up the firefox start page. In other words, this is a useless add-on if you want to use it for any website other than Firefox start page.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.6).

Hey man, you're right it doesn't set it a website. If you want to load a site than you have to go to about:config and search for newtab.url and set it there. You can change homepage url by going to tools and options under the general tab.

Search Engine logo still visible when field hidden Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Add-on is really great, I liked it very much.
The only problem is that when "Hide Search Field" option is on, there is still "Google" logo visible on the home page: so we have Google logo, but not the field.
Please fix this, if possible.
P.S. I'll make a screenshot, if needed.

Thanks for this feedback, yes can you take a screen shot and send to me. Please either email but I prefer you make new topic on the support site if you can:

It's simply great, but in the past few days my browser freezes when I open a new tab, deativating this addon solves the problem. I dont know what is causing it, i already tried everything, deactivated all my addons but this one, and the problem persists, only fixing by removing it.

EDIT: Hi, i'm using version 29 now and it fixed by itself! Maybe it was a conflict with v28.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.6).

Thanks for the report I'll look into this, what version of Firefox are you using?

Edit: So glad to hear it's working out, that was odd that it would do this. I couldn't figure out what was causing it.

New homepage? Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Is it possible to open actual homepage? not firefox homepage or whatever that is.

I don't understand what you mean, send me and email and we can talk about it. Thanks for the review man.

Merging about:home with about:newtab is neat. But could you add compatibility with FastDial and other dial extensions. Switching to them seems broken for now

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.6).

Please share with me a list of extensions you would like to see compatibility with and I'll give it a shot.

Like it but a few issues Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This has simplicity down pat, but does have a few issues: it changes the new tab button setting to go to about:home which'd be fine if you never intend to use about:newtab, but just need to rig the about:home button to open in a new tab to replicate what it offers if that what you wanted

and when you drag bookmarks to the quick link grid on about:home, they dont add/replace the grid spots you drag them to, it just launches the bookmark url, so you'll still need to use about:newtab for that, but now youll have to type the url manually, or change the setting back in about:config (or use TMP etal)

when you open the grid on about:newtab, it creates a small glitch on about:home, but only needs the grid toggled on/off to fix, or to remember to close the grid when finished with it on about:newtab, but will happen every time you access about:newtab instead of about:home

theres also a basic problem adding the about:newtab grid to other pages like about:home (not just this addon) if you wanto use image backgrounds, cause when ones been set for about:newtab, itll also show up on the grid equivalent on about:home as a partial image, and wont remain in the same spot when you open/close the grid, so cant line it up with the same image loaded seperately on about:home (if you tried that for a dirty fix). Otoh, if you render the about:home page on about:newtab, such as New Tab Tools does theres no conflict for using image backgrounds on both pages

TLDR: has that image background limitation for about:newtab, but might be the better option as it can at least combine about:home and about:newtab Stylish scripts on the home page, something not sure can be done on newtab page using addons like NTT

Thanks

edit: you welcome, and didnt mean to make it sound like a beta build or anything, just found it interesting to mention the quirks, usually dont realize stuff till after posting a review if i post one. anyway hope it helped

Five stars for thsi review. thank you so much for this excellent feedback. I will work on these points for v1.7.Your feedback/debugging/scenarios are extremely appreciated thanks again for it.

Edit: 1/4/14 hi there man, i tried looking for your email but cannot find it, would you be able to get togather over a chat service like google chat or something so you can help me re-simulate these glitches please

Great but seems to be broken... Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Awesome extension, but seems not to work since recent firefox beta update (26 I think) Any chance of a fix?
Edit: Seems to be working after a manual addon update:)

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.5).

Thanks. I'll take a look at what's going on.

Edit:
I tested in 26 and in 28 I couldn't replicate any issues. Do you have any other addons installed? If you email me I can better support you. :)

Very neat Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Of all new tab/about:home addons I tried, is this the best one.
It combines usability and style. 5/5 Stars

I really like this addon, thank you man, keep going!! Sorry that you may be often busy, I just have two small requests:
- option to remove/hide the search box
- possibility to change to tab icon the same as about:newtab (from the "firefox" icon to "dashed transparent rounded square" icon)
thx for consideration

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.5).

Thanks much for the feedback. Yes forgive me I have been very busy. I have been meaning to add that search button feature.

I'll try to get that icon to match as well but I think that is a bit tricky.

Great! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Finally I've found a New Tab extension I like! Great work, and thank you.

It's fantastic to have quick access to Downloads/History/Bookmarks, and in particular Add-ons and Settings

By the way, I LIKE the *cough* redundant *cough* search box!

Please don't get rid of it as suggested by a previous reviewer. I like it there, and I use it. I know you can use the awesome bar, or the search bar (or open Google.com for that matter), but I like having the option! The more ways to search, the better.

Perhaps you can add a tickbox in the settings to display or remove it as required?

So far so good.
Adds about:newTab to about:home and uses this for both home & new tab.
Old new tab can still be viewed using about:newTab.

Also adds rows and columns to most viewed.

Really Nice! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Just a small addition, I would like to see in the next version.

In options.xul add:

<setting pref="browser.newtabpage.rows" type="integer" title="Rows" max="10" min="1"/>
<setting pref="browser.newtabpage.columns" type="integer" title="Columns" max="10" min="1"/>

between <vbox>...</vbox> to be able to change the number of displayed thumbnails in the add-on settings.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.4).

Thanks Jezze! I'll add that real soon.

Neat! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Does what it says, neat stuff :)

Could you please include an update to do away with the redundant search-box, since everyone these days prefers searching from the location bar. It could save some valuable space, especially in small screen displays.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.4).

Absolutely! Will add that in next release working on that right now.

Good plugin! Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Please, take the opportunity set a custom icon (thumb) for tabs. Thanks
UPD: To enable users to set the image icon to selectively tabs.

Thanks for that idea Sorbing. Can you please explain the idea more I don't fully understand it.
