Absolutely, positively love it!!

A1 appplication Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is a beauty of an add-on! It works flawlessly on my Apple Mac (some other 'highlighter apps were useless) and the contextual menu, reach by Ctr+shift, offers a nice array of choice.
It is possible to select a number of text with different coloured highlights. You can then go to the contextual menu and choose "highlight / copy all"; paste that into, say, a Word for Win document. You will have at your fingertips all the highlighted text + a date reference (when you highlighted the text) + a page reference (title, web site) +a URL that could take you back to that page!

You can also clear a single highlight, change its colour and clear all highlights; I've tried another similar apps and the clearing of highlights was… not available!!

Double clicking on a highlighted word, or any other word, and then going into the contextual menu gives you even more choice, such as "search Google for that word".

I could go on raving about it, but you get the picture, don't you? Try it for yourself and see… ;-))

This is a very easy to use application which works . extremely well. All you have to do is, er, remember the Shift & Control key combo and you can't go wrong.

Thank you very much Mr Developer (make sure you update it from time to time ;-)

Please update to FF 3.0+ Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This has been one of the very few extensions that I use almost everyday. I use it to highlight key sections of long articles. Definitely worth paying for.

I took the extra five or ten minutes to learn it well and the multiple highlights and especially the "copy all highlighted" features have been awesome to use. And easy too. Sincerely worth the coin ...

Please update this to FF 3.0+

(… in meantime, does anyone know a working hack?)

It's simple and it's functional. Of course, if you need persistent highlights, look for some more robust apps.

...but....but it doesn't STAY highlighted! Rated 2 out of 5 stars

I was looking for a website highlighter, and yes, this highlights. But when I return to the page the highlighting is GONE.

So what's the point? Is this a MAGIC highlighter?

Obviously I don't get it.

Collect the unknown words Rated 4 out of 5 stars

For exemle, if you dont speak good a language -like me- you can collect the unknown words, and copy them on the clipboard. Great option!

..Still on of the BEST in FF v3.0.4!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

..This is an update to my previous post last year mainly to address those users asking for an update to the latest Firefox or a way to get this extension to work. This extension still works with the current Firefox version 3.0.4 as of this post. There is one simple trick needed to install it however. I'm sure there might be another way to manually open the .xpi file and change the version compatibility line info, but I prefer to use the very useful extension MR Tech toolkit ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/421irefox/addon/421 ). It is with out a doubt one of my top 10 must install extensions for Firefox! This will make most (DONT “quote“ me! :-p) incompatible extension work with the latest versions of FF.

..Once MR Tech toolkit is installed:

..If the Highlighter extension is already installed, but its telling you its disabled because incompatibility with your version of FF: Right click the Highlighter entry in your FF Add-ons list (([CTRL]+[SHIFT]+[A] to open it if its not already...)) ..Look through the option list that pops up over the entry for “Make Compatible” and click it. Now all you need to do is restart FF and presto!!

..My original review:

..Its no longer maintained or updated on a regular basis, but maybe that's due to being done right already? ;-) ..Its still the best Firefox add-on of its kind that I have found...

..As others have found you need to hold the [SHIFT]+[CONTROL] keys down while opening the right click menu to access the extended highlighter sub-menu giving access to all 5 color choices. You can remove the highlights as easy as you made them one by one or just reload the current page to remove all the highlights you made at once. Although there is no proper way to save the highlights you made per page with links intact and all, you can save the page with just the highlights to your hard drive. Go to the Firefox tool bar--->File-->”Save Page As” or just do [CONTROL]+[S], then choose the “Save as type”, “Web Page complete” and save your file...

..If I could wish for any new feature it would be the persistent saving of highlights per page with links intact without saving each page to the hard drive. Highlighter could just save each page's highlights within some internal bookmark system much as Firefox's built in password manager does. The option to keep highlights, but be able to show them toggled on or off would also be a nice addition to this...

Works Well Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I've been using Highlighter for over a year and it works very well. It doesn't slow my browsing down one bit. But the instructions are still wrong: holding shift down doesn't get you anywhere. Hold shift and control down to access the full menue. Or, as I do most of the time, just click on the Highlight icon in the toolbar for the menue.

Would be cool if the saved text had markers between them. That way I could tell that the copied text snips were taken from different places in the original text. And even cooler if this marker - default could be ... - was user customizable.

If you want to save the marked page, I recommend the scrapbook extension.

Wonderful Extension Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Quite simply, simple and marvelous! Four different colors to choose from; you can remove highlighting if you want to (on a highlighted- section by highlighted-section basis - or by refreshing the page to remove all highlighting); and finally- you can make the highlighting persistent by saving the webpage (in "complete webpage" choice (vs "html only)). Thanks much!!
