Why was Google Reader Watcher created?
It always frustrated me that I didn't knew if I had unread feeds in Google Reader or not without visiting the page. To try and remedy that, at first I created a Greasemonkey script which checked Google Reader every time I visited the Google search page. Then I thought, it would be good to have the same functionality as a Firefox extension. Soon after that I released the first version of Google Reader Watcher.
What's next for Google Reader Watcher
In the new version the toolbar and the statusbar buttons will behave the same, so the toolbar button will have the same context menu as the statusbar button. Another new feature will be a new view, which will be similar to chrome's view: when you click on the icon, the extension will show the unread items in a popup and you can open them directly from there.
