Not working on Firefox 32.0
Use instead the newer Findbar Tweak, this is working.

Great potential, but some significant annoyances Rated 3 out of 5 stars

This is a potentially great add-on with some really useful features, but there are two issues that cause real problems for me:

1. Installing this add-on makes my Find bar appear UNDER the status bar instead of on top of it (where it should be). I use the Status-4-Evar extension to get the status bar back (after Mozilla, in their infinite wisdom, chose to remove it). Having the Find bar moved to below the status bar means that the status bar constantly jumps up and down as the find bar opens and closes. This is really irritating. Disabling this extension makes the Find bar go back to where it should be (i.e. above the status bar).

2. Some kind hard-coding has been used for the hotkeys, and it breaks my custom Find bar hotkeys that I had assigned using the KeyConfig add-on. There is no reason whatsosver to forcibly break the user's choice of hotkeys and impose something else on them,

It's a shame because this add-on has some great features, but for me the side-effects are so annoying that I had to uninstall it.

Favorite Addon Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This was my favorite addon of all time. I used it extensively. And yet again a FF update has disabled yet one more addon that made FF better than the rest of the browsers. That and the consistent bloating of the program is making me and many others really think long and hard about staying with FF. Like Windows effing things up many of us use our computers for actual work and we do not have the time nor the inclination to continually fight with the programs we work with. Kinda pisses us off to no end. Loved this program. Made things much easier. Not liking the FF continual conflicts problems that make them compatible so, like mentioned previously... how about making it so we have the CHOICE to update when a compatibility issue negates the addon. Dunno, guess companies get so big they don't give a rats behind about how they got that big and what kept them popular/special. Is this another Meh moment in computer history where yet another company sold out the solid faithful loyal end user to the newer hipsters? Looks liked it. Like Sears... I guess it is easier to con newer customers compared to the loyalist.

didn't get to enjoy it enough. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

this WAS a fantastic add-on for anyone who uses CTRL+F on firefox and wanted better options than the basic ones. this was a great solution which i only discovered a few months ago.
then when firefox updated itself to version 25.0, i discovered it is not available on it.
now i use "findbar tweak" which is ok but not nearly as good.
i REALLY hope this issue will be resolved with a new update.

Broken in FF25 Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This has been a fantastic add-on for years, but as usual, an FF update (FF25) has stuffed up yet another great add-on. Mozilla *PLEASE* for heaven's sake, do what everybody keeps asking and check to see if an update is not compatible with an add-on (or vice versa) and give people the chance to NOT update until either the add-on is updated or FF won't stuff it up. It seems every time I update FF, some really useful and reliable add-on gets mucked up. Maybe it's not FF's fault all the time, but give us the option to back-out of an FF upgrade if it mucks things up for us!

Not work with FF 25.0 Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Not work with FF 25.0, needs update. Or use "Findbar Tweak" alternative temporarily.

A great program! ! But it recently stopped working.

Short and simple: Doesn't work!

Broken and Discontinued Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I can only assume from the lack of communication and updates, that the developer has ceased work in this add-on.

I remember back when I first started using Firefox, this add-on was one of the first I ever installed. Since then, it has become very buggy with the most recent firefox versions and other add-ons, and it will unfortunately break completely starting with Firefox 25.

I have since written my own add-on, called "FindBar Tweak", which was greatly inspired by this and other add-ons. Unless work is resumed here, I would invite everyone to switch to FBT, it does everything Find Toolbar Tweaks does and much more and ensures it will remain compatible with future versions of Firefox! Note: there are a couple of features that FTT used to do that FBT doesn't do yet, such as moving the find bar's close button, or notifications when search wrapped. These specific features will be added in a future version.

I'm sorry for the spam, but I believe my add-on now becomes a necessary alternative to Find Toolbar Tweaks, which will stop working completely in the very near future.

After 2.5 years, FF25 beta (and its Findbar changes, I presume) has broken this great Add-on. I've now switched to Findbar Tweaks. We'll always have Paris... :)

MERCI ! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

MERCI !

My English is bad :
- The input box could be a Combo_box mémorise that the last n research (customizable, fifteen should suffice)
- The input field may be filled automatically from a selection of more than n characters with the mouse, as well as double and triple click
- A "Delete" button the text box- The button "highlight all" replaced by a checkbox (as case sensitive) stored in parameter
- A checkbox "Whole Word"
- A counter of occurrences found, sensitive to "Respect the box breaks casse
THANKS a lot
[Edit 28/06/13]
En réalité le bouton "Effacer" fonctionne correctement !
C'est en ajoutant HilhlightAll 1.6 pour avoir le comptage des occurrences et remplissage automatique de la zone de saisie et du presse-papier que ça bug !
In reality the "Delete" button works correctly !
This is adding HilhlightAll 1.6 for counting occurrences and autofill the text box and press paper that bug !
THANKS !

Starting Firefox with a visible Seach-Field left-under. Thanks! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Correction: sorry, my previous install method was far too complex. Do it like this:
1.Install the plugin. Restart Firefox.
2. Go to Menu Bar > Extra > Add-ons > Extensions.
3. Double-click the plugin “Find Toolbar Tweaks”.
4. Click Options, and check the checkbox “Open toolbar at startup” (or something)
5. Restart Firefox. Done!

The search-field (for text on the current website) is now immediately visible below when Firefox starts, and any copied item can immediately be pasted into it.
So far no issues on my Win7 64-bits, Firefox 21.
I don't know if this is the best plugin for this, but Thanks! I am very happy with this!

Great--with one suggestion Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This would be even more useful if it also let you set the color of the Find box's text and background.

For some inexplicable reason, some themes change these colors so that when the typed text isn't found, the box either turns an annoyingly bright "warning" color (e.g. red), or the text disappears entirely (becomes nearly the same as the background color). Wouldn't it be great if this take-charge add-on coud fix that?

Works OK still in FF 11 Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I haven't seen any of the issues ppl are writing about here, like double Findbars, or not appearing at all. In my FF 11 (Win XP), this does exactly what it does in my old FF 3.6.x (used it for years). My guess is that there are problems with some other extension(s) that make things behave badly for other people. I use a different theme (Classic Compact) and ~50 extensions and I have no problems with the Findbar when using Find Toolbar Tweaks 3.0.0

So this is good, some improvements would be nice like showing 'x of y' when searching repeatedly with ctrl+G etc.

This extension is pretty much unmaintained these days so nothing much happens here.

Doesn't work with FF 11 Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Was working until I installed firefox 11. Switched over to FindBar like suggested by a few other users, works even better!

Edit: FindBar has a very annoying bug with window resizing
Edit2: Moved onto Scrollbar Search Highlighter which does exactly what I need!
