Keeping me sane! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is the plugin that makes it possible for keeping my sanity without too much effort.

I tend to open tons of tabs during a workday and they just keep growing and naggging on my mental load.

with autoclose tabs things are much better!

(I edited this from 1 star to 5 stars after it started working again for me on latest Firefox 29)

Works for me in Firefox 29.0

I'm using it everyday on an up to date Firefox without issue. If there's a problem, you'll need to give much more details about it.

Stellar Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Works great; author's decision to keep the idle-detection feature intact is a good one. Thank you for contributing it.

Doesn't work at all Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Completely useless, doesn't work at all! Tabs don't turn colors when old, or close.

Reply: I tested it by opening tabs, they never closed. I currently have it set to mark tabs as old after 3 minutes, and close after 2 more minutes. It does neither of these things.

How have you tested it? It works very well for me everyday, and for several others.

Option for close UNREAD tabs Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Can you add option to close UNREAD tabs as well?
Thanks for this great addo-n!

Created an account just to write a review. This addon is wonderful and the author took the time to respond to reviews which answered any lingering questions I had. Great work, this addon is everything I wanted.

Thanks! :-)

Quoting the autor:

"...When you don't interact with a window, all the tabs in that window are automatically protected by the "idle" detection. This prevents you from losing tabs if you are suddenly interrupted and go away from the computer or from a task for several minutes."

Florian, the addon is great, but the function that i really wanted is exactly the opposite what you said... I mean, i wanted that your addon auto-close tabs even if i'm not interacting with a window...

Would be difficult to add an option to the addon to force close the tabs even at the non-active windows (instead of keep protecting them)? If not, it would be great if you could add this option in the next version of the addon... =)

I'm not interested in adding options that could cause users to lose data. I think what you (and a few other people who commented) want would be better addressed by a separate add-on (that I'm not interested in creating, but that could be done easily by forking the code of this add-on, and removing the idle detection code). Thanks for your understanding.

Needs improvement Rated 2 out of 5 stars

This is a nice extension but the "idle detection" definitely needs improvement. It seems that the only way to prevent the browser from going into "idle" mode is to interact with the tabs, like switching tabs, or opening / closing tabs. Typing, scrolling or refreshing the page is not detected.

This is by design. "Idle" doesn't mean that the user hasn't touched the browser, but that he hasn't interacted with the list of tabs.

Works very well Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I love this add-on. It keeps Firefox from getting unbearably slow for me. Very very nice, thank you Florian.

Great idea, now working Rated 4 out of 5 stars

It works well. Just note what Florian says below about idle detection in the window.

-- Response to author Florian:

Thank you for the note about the idle detection in the window. I did not know about it, and that was indeed the issue. When I started using the other tabs in the window, then the idle tabs started to be automatically closed.

Thank you for creating this add-in! Now that I see it is working, I'll upgrade my rating.

This user has a previous review of this add-on.

"does not work" is not helpful. I (the add-on author) use it all the time and I can tell you it does work. With the default configuration.

By the way, if you are looking at the window without interacting with it when you expect to see it "close" tabs, it will never happen. When you don't interact with a window, all the tabs in that window are automatically protected by the "idle" detection. This prevents you from losing tabs if you are suddenly interrupted and go away from the computer or from a task for several minutes.

Very useful Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I end up with a lot of tabs that I just can't be bothered to close by myself.

@mmeuer: It probably works if you go to about:config and set the property dom.allow_scripts_to_close_windows to true.

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

second onilton maciel's suggestion =)

@marijanpull
wouldn't that be bad actually? say you opened 10 tabs, and already have 10 tabs opened, within ten seconds, all of those tabs close at once? o.o;;
well maybe if you had a quick toggle for 'protect next x number of tabs' or something^^;;

==
finding this was one in a long search for somthing that caps tab numbers--but discretely ie, again not straight out prevention/closing-if-you-don't. just a warning or two =)

Great extension (but I have one suggestion) Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is a amazing extension and very useful for me since I don't like to close tabs. I think it's by far more natural if they go out by theirselves as I do not use them.

Anyway I think this extesion could be even better if it did something more: add at least the closed urls to a list of auto-closed tabs. It could be, for example, a folder in bookmarks manager: auto-closed tabs. Also maybe it could auto clean the folder when firefox get closed just to no overload the folder. A search feature would not be bad.

The main idea for this is to make you less worry about closed tabs since you can recover them anytime :)
It's also like a safe measure. :)

I think searching in history is not exactly the same since there are other stuff there that were not closed, for example, a set of pages you clicked to get to the actual page that was closed.

Recently closed tabs

At the bottom of the "History" menu, there's a "Recently closed tabs" submenu from which you can reopen recently closed tabs, including tabs that were closed automatically by this add-on.

I echo what Idjo has mentioned.
Please disable the idle mode for users to actually close the tabs.
It is great that you are developing this addon as an experimental but you still need to give people something they can actually use functionally.

The idle feature is very important to avoid losing tabs. I don't see how making it optional would make the add-on more useful.

Needs more features Rated 4 out of 5 stars

You should add the ability to "bookmark" a tab so that it is excluded . My thinking is if there's an important tab, the user could take a second and mark it "important" or something. The rest of the tabs would be closed automatically by the plugin. This feature would probably allow people to set aggressive auto-close settings.

Double click to protect a tab

You can double click a tab to protect it. The tab title will appear underlined, and the tab will never be closed automatically.

Hi.
Your add-on is exactly what I was looking for. Many thanks!
One request though. Please add an option to disable the idle mode because I actually want loose all the tabs when I am away.

Add A Button! Rated 3 out of 5 stars

There should be a button with tabs that are automatically closed too reopen them.
Rating 3! It's a great add-on, but far away from perfect.

Recently closed tabs

You can reopen recently closed tabs from the "Recently closed tabs" submenu of the Firefox "History" menu.

Si funciona Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Hi. Very nice Add-on.
Would you be so kind as to add two more properties to it?
1. Possibility to change the colors.
2. Possibility to change the mouse properties. (Ctrl+Click, Shift+Click etc)

And have one idea for u: using timer automatically change the color from the one to other, so ppl will see when the tab will be closed.

10x for a addon and ssr 4 my eng. :)

Great Garbage Collector Rated 5 out of 5 stars

If ur like me, you open a lot of tabs for quick reference and ur too lazy to close them. This app does it great.
I would have liked to see a "never close from this website" feature.
