Great add-on thank you very much!
The moment I installed it I thought it was awesome. After I toggle tab titles it has now become my new favorite extension. I use it in conjunction with Cleanest Addon Manager and now I'm able too enjoy the old dialog style add-on manager with smaller text for a much greater overview. It still looks new and modern without that silly tab.
Works on Firefox ESR 17 without any issue AFAIK.

Thanks :)

BUG: Impossible to install addons through this addon manager. (Nothing happens when I try to install something.)

Please fix it.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0).

Maybe a bug?

Please use the support forum to report the problem so I can request more details that could allow me to replicate and investigate it. I don't receive a lot of similar complaints (if any) from existing users and generally add-ons and themes install just fine using the dialog, but since you do have this problem I assume there could be a previously unreported bug in my add-on or incompatibility with your system or browser configuration and other addons.

Working on FF 9.0a1 (nightly at the moment) 32bit on W7x64, after editing maxversion into install.rdf but with these issues:

- Drag and drop of .xpi files doesn't trigger install.
- Restrained visual style is even heavier than normal style. I don't think this addon should focus on visual styles having in mind Stylish addon and its userstyles can provide visual styles in a wider spectrum, and potentially conflicts could appear with other addons, styles...
- Locales should be added if options are going to remain present in the Addons Manager options menu.

I also don't understand why there's an option to only update addons from this addons.mozilla.org page, I didn't expected it and I don't like it there, also it should better say "Avoid updating extensions not hosted on AMO" which better defines this option. Really, a extension like this is much helpful, doesn't need bloatware.

And finally, I agree with other posters, It would be great if there would be an extension to bring back good old Addons Manager to FF4 and above. I really don't understand why TF mozilla perpetrated this nonsense and maintains it version over version, and I think I can speak in the name of many users if I say I'm eager to get rid of that s**t.

UPDATE: In response to avatards the option "Use AMO Homepage To Get Add-Ons" shows in the Addons Manager options menu when I install this extension, not before.
And about styles if you're going to keep them, I suggest removing buttons for all addons except for the one selected (there's some userstyles doing it yet), and adding addon ID information (useful to find its folder in profile folder, and also some userstyles do it yet).
Last thing I missed, about the reload function only for the Add-ons manager window... why would I need that? I already use QuickRestart addon, and there's also Restartless Restart available, both providing restart function to FF, not only in the Addons Manager. The only thing I can imagine is that those addons restart function doesn't work in this Addon Manager window, therefore you'd had to add it. Otherwise, again, this extension does not need bloatware, specially if it could conflict with other (needed) addons.

Thanks for your review. I didn't test the addon with FF 9 yet, but it's good that they seem to work mostly alright together.

The update mechanism you are referring to is a standard Firefox Add-ons Manager feature though. This add-on only adds keyboard shortcuts to it.

--Update:
The option to restart Firefox was added because other addons' keyboard shortcuts don't work outside the main browser window.

The "Use AMO Homepage To Get Add-Ons" option does not change anything about add-on updates, it only changes the homepage in the "Get Add-Ons" tab where you can manually browse add-ons in Mozilla repository, from the specialized web page to AMO proper. Though I have to admit that this option needs an update because installing add-ons from AMO in Add-ons Manager dialog has become quite glitchy lately.

Stopped working with FF6.0.2. Doesn't crash, but doesn't do anything - add-ons open in a tab. .... Manually switching the add-on off and then on again solved the issue. It's working again - Thanks.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0).

The add-on does work for me fine in 6.0.2. One possible issue may be that it is not fully compatible with Firefox update procedures and will not start up properly. This is a known issue (see official release notes) which, unfortunately, I was not able to resolve yet. It is easily corrected though, by manually switching the add-on off and then on again. If this doesn't work please use the support forum to report this bug, as it may require closer inspection to resolve.

AddOn is not working with FF 6.
The Add On destroy my selfcreated Toolbars.
With FF 5 works fine.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0).

Please use the support forum to report a bug (http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=2063057). 70% of this addon's active users run it in Firefox 6, and my own tests in Firefox 6 have not shown any damage to custom toolbars so far - which means the problem you are describing must be specific to your configuration and therefore needs to be investigated in a more thorough manner, for which this page is not suited.

Needs more tweaking Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I preferred the original Add-ons Manager from FF 3.6 so I wanted to like this but it needs more work. It's actually worse than FF4's new AOM for several reasons. First off, it always opens full screen and it doesn't remember the window size when you open it next time. Having to resize everytime is annoying and if it's going to open in full screen everytime then it's really not that much different than opening AOM in its own tab, and at least I can see the other tabs and the toolbars with FF4's AOM.

Secondly, this takes a lot longer to open and load compared to FF4's AOM. Resizing and moving the window around also is laggy. It makes it hard for me to want to use it. Furthermore, if you have add-ons like Stylish or Greasemonkey and you click Manage Style or Manage Userscripts it doesn't automatically jump to the correct menu. It'll open AOM but be focused on the wrong menu configuration, like Plug-ins.

Unless you can make it pretty much the same as the old AOM then it won't be worth using. Right now it's too big and slow and annoying to use. I've installed Slim Add-on Manager instead and it makes FF4's AOM more acceptable to use.

Update 11/22/11: Gave this another try after seeing this addon was updated. The resizing problem has been fixed. The lagginess seems to be gone. The "Manage Userscripts" and "manage styles" in greasemonkey and stylish open to the correct section.
But there are still a couple issues. The back button on my mouse no longers works in AOM. Before, when you clicked 'More' on an extension and then click the back button it's supposed to take you back to the list of addons but it doesn't work anymore. Also, the Addons Manager Hilite extension doesn't work with this extension. If you fix those problems I'll give this a 5. It gets 3 1/2 stars now.

Thanks for your opinion. Most issues are rectified in the latest beta, including window size and position persistence and compatibility with other extensions. I don't experience any lags when moving or resizing the dialog and don't have any other reports about this kind of problem, so it may be due to complex compatibility issues with your platform or other extensions that need to be addressed on the support forum.

Add-on manager in a tab was annoying, this make it all perfect again.

Goes really great with https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/slim-add-on-manager/

thank you! I've been waiting for some developers to make an extension like this! there are a few little bugs (those listed in the extension's page) but other than that it works like a charm. Finally the old style addons manager is back;-) good job

Seems to work great. I much prefer the add-ons manager being a separate dialog.

Thanks.

FIREFOX 4 RC Addon Manager Rated 2 out of 5 stars

I have used this and worked good. But now, I can not access it at all. From the tools menu, I click on Add Ons, It tries to open the manager, but won't. I get a spinning multi-colored circle, and have Force Quit Firefox to get back in. Using Firefox 4 RC, and Mac 10.6.6 Snow Leopard.
