SyncPlaces

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Someone wrote : "No need to trust anyone else's servers, and you can sign up for a 2gb Dropbox account for free and use SyncPlaces."But Dropbox itself stores your data in its servers (which is why you can access them from anywhere in case all your Internet devices/computers breaks down), a fact that renders the "external 3rd party not gathering your personal information" completely wrong... No, the real huge advantage of SyncPlaces would be the fact that you can share personal data (passwords, bookmarks and such) :

1- From your own computer as a backup mechanism, or for sharing amongst multiple navigators/accounts.

2- From your own computer acting as an Internet server (if you install FTP or WebDav services, and provided that your use a DNS service such as DynDNS).

3- From your own private office server (again, having the WebDav or FTP services).

The two last options actually replace the need for some Dropbox 3rd party storage services, in a much more secure manner while preserving confidentiality.

Quick Locale Switcher

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Excellent add-on, but unfortunately it's too much intrusive : it forces me to a default locale which is not my country (fr-FR, France), whilst I've set fr-CA (Canada) into Firefox prefs.js (about:config) AND in the plugin itself, but no can do. It just doesn't work : every time I navigate a new page, I need to tell this plugin to change the locale to my real default instead of its own untouchable default forcing me to France (fr-CA as stated in Firefox's config file which is itself accessible via about:config). Consequently the list in prefs.js is growing fast, I'm affraid it'll get so huge that it could clutter and slow down things. This combined with the intrusive behavior of having the plugin always change my desired locale to another one, obliges me to uninstall it : unfortunately it does not work as advertised for some Firefox localization (or for some default locale setting within the plugin itself which CANNOT be changed even though it's not the same default locale as the one adevrtised to it by Firefox).More over, there's a BUG : whenever I change the language to French from Firefox's contextual menu (so as to use another dictionary but without the will of changing the header's locale for the whole page), the plugin's locale also changes automatically and against my will ; moreover, it changes back to fr-FR, NOT fr-CA, even though it's specified that fr-CA should be the one since it's the one that is set as default into Firefox. That's an annoying bug...A very promising plugin, but some coding design MUST be revisited.

Contacts Sidebar

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

ESSENTIAL! How come isn't it part of the base distribution of TB? Worst: it's NOT compatible with TB version 3.x.x!... Very disappointing, as there is (oddly) no other plug-in doing this. Please update this essential gyzmo, thanks.

InfoLister

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Excellent, and I prefer it over Extension List Dumper: it displays list items as hyperlinks and you can save as HTML, which is very handy when sharing that list whith others or use it when installing/reinstalling FF/TB.

Extension List Dumper

I prefer InfoLister, since it allows you to save the list as an HTML file with all items as hyperlinks, which is very convenient when you want to share your list with someojne else, or simply keep a a very handy list when installing or reinstalling FF/TB from scratch.
