My Reviews

iCloud Bookmarks

no restart, but reboot... Rated 1 out of 5 stars

A restartless addon, which requires you to download additional software from apple which FORCES you to REBOOT your computer....
(not, that its just bad to dl additional software for a browser addon, but there is no reference anywhere on the description here.)

Second, its not possible to remove/drag'n'drop the cloud-icon from the toolbar to another toolbar in the customizing mode. Not funny.

Yeah! those are the things we need!

(P.S. this addon is for windows only, so I wonder, what happens, if the user has an activated ff weave/sync account and syncs the browsers addons+config to a running ff on mac...I guess, it'll end up very very badly....)

NoScript Suite Lite

nice and fast... Rated 4 out of 5 stars

...but it lacks important features like supporting for syncing with other foxes, or else, which I don't recall now because I uninstalled it. (wasn't too flexible the way it handled URIS)

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.1.1.1-signed).

Evernote Web Clipper

I wonder, what they're updating all the time... Rated 1 out of 5 stars

...because it just does not work!!

Also, there is no usefull documentation or any hints what user need to do, when installing/configuring this addon.

Obviously, this addon does not work for a lot of users, but it seems (as a lot of bugs or user-feedback on the evernote forum) that evernote developers/company do not care about single user feedback....too bad.

For now, the Evernote Client on my Mac poppes up, when clicking on the Elephant-Icon in FF, which shows, that actually something is happening...But nothing more happens...

Official My JDownloader AddOn

Of no use, because no documentation... Rated 2 out of 5 stars

The developers of this Addon are those kind of people, which think, no documentation, first steps, or ANY HINT for the user to start with this addon is needed.

Needless to say, this addon does not work (tried windows/mac).
I rightclicked on some links, checked the menus in FF, but nothing there to do, but uninstall this piece of zipped bytes...

EDIT after Developers Comment:
I reinstalled the Addon, found the greyish Icon at the right top of my urlbar, clicked it, entered my credentials in the popup, but the addon seems to load forever. Nothing happening after 10 minutes. Local JDownloader running and connected, which I can see in the Webinterface of myjdownloader.org...

Uninstalled again ;-)

Policeman

Seems to be a great but labour-intensive "successor" for RequestPolicy Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Ok, this addon seems to be a good alternative to my previous used addon RequestPolicy.
It took me about 3-4 hours to play with it and kinda learn/understand how it is used and how it works.
(I did not read the docs in the first place, but did'nt find it too llustrative after reading it then)

My first impression is that the offered UI is intuitive and un-intuitive at the same time (I'm using FF 38.0.1. on Mac), but also fast to use, which is very important to have a good user experience.

IMHO, the addons popup stutters very much, caused by the lengths of the shown entries inside the popup, but it seems to be a good way to display only the important informations when needed. The information shown in the popup is sometimes (on websites with a lot of connections) too hard to read at once and could be structured in a better way, but honestly, I don't have a clue how this could be done to improve the readability. Maybe colorshades and small indents.

To sumarize it: It seems to be a great addon to fully control what websites send out their lurking arms to trace the users browser behaviour, but it takes a lot of time to set it up to have convenient webbrowsing experience (with all the shiny glimmering content we're used to nowadays).

For me, I took and take that time, because I'm very curious, what sites connect to other sites to load what special "content". If I need the content right away, I can always suspend the addon to have a seamless browsing experience, so there is actually no need not to install and use this addon for a later use)

The ability to import PolicyRequest settings is a big pro and the green/red-colored icons is a very nice visual feedback for the user to check, how much content is blocked and how much is passed through.

Its worth 5 Stars, but 4 Stars only, to motivate the developer(s) ;-))

EDIT (a week later):

Ok, after working a week "prodictive" and in real browser life, I need to edit my review:

The stuttering while clicking trough the origin-/destination-domains is not that bad/important as I wrote.
Actually, I think, its not a problem at all, after you worked a little bit with this addon and u know what to expect.

The usability speed of this addon is great. I have "Reload on change" activated and so, when I changed a setting for a special site and I just click inside the site again, the changes are already visible. This is great to fine grinding your needs for all the different sites which load all their data(crap) from anywhere but their domain itself.

Anyways, its quite irritating, that if there are a lot of blocked domains, u need to click on the "any domain" (origin) to see and unblock them.

Evernote Web Clipper

Gives an Exception! Does not work on newest MAC OSX FF! Rated 1 out of 5 stars

[Exception... "File error: Not found" nsresult: "0x80520012 (NS_ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND)" location: "JS frame :: resource://gre/modules/commonjs/toolkit/loader.js -> resource://e0b8c461-f8fb-49b4-8373-fe32e9252800/web_clipper/lib/net.js :: sendXhrBinary :: line 132" data: no]

Seems to me, that Quality Assurance for Evernote Products is in vacation right now...(for about 4 Years... those lucky guys...) ;-)

Evernote Web Clipper

does not store clips in default notebook anymore Rated 1 out of 5 stars

in fact, it does not store any clip anymore.
I can choose the stuff to clip like expected, but clipping will end in no new note in my evernote client or cloud.

there is no pulldown menu for chosing the default notebook GUID anymore.
where the heck should I know the GUID of a notebook?

Keyword Search

maybe good, maybe useful. I guess, it is. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I installed it and after that, a new tab opened telling me to select a searchengine for the url bar. but my selection from the dropdown (duckduck I chosed) did not work.
So I opened the prefs for the addon and now I see 4 different settings with NO explanation what they do, how they work or how the user can activate them. Ok, I know about the urlbar, but the others I can't imagine what they are for and how I can start them. I'd love to had some (shortish) instructions on how to use the about:home search engine, or the new tab search engine, but I have no clue.
URL bar search works as expected and proposed.
Thank you.

EDIT: now, with a little more explanation from the dev, my understanding is better, how usefull this addon really is.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.1.3.1-signed).

Smart Find

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

This is maybe good&useful, but it does not work. after installing pressing CTRL+F does nothing anymore (nothing visual happens). disabling the addon and CTRL+F works again. So there is no need to not uninstall it :-) but i'll try to remember this addon as it could be handy....

Mozilla Labs: Prospector - Find Suggest

this is very useful! Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I like it. It gives lazy ppl like me an ease of typing.
unfortunately this addons stopped working, after I installed another addon "FindBar Tweak" for helping me finding text better on the screen.

FindBar Tweak

what a big bunch of useful features! Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Works great! I love all the things it does and it helps a lot!

unfortunately "Mozilla Labs: Prospector - Find Suggest" stopped working, when this addon is active/enabled.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.4.18.1-signed).

Mozilla Labs: Prospector - Find Suggest

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

a great idea and it works fine!

Paste to Tab and Go

does, what it says! ... Rated 4 out of 5 stars

...but I wish, there were some icons (placeable in the toolbars) to click, instead fiddeling around with the context menu items.
so its kinda inconvenient to use this convenient addon :-)

Clip to OneNote

Needs a third Party download which is not compatible with OSX (MAC OS) Rated 2 out of 5 stars

anyway, it might be a useful addon, so 4 stars. (windows only -1, third party software needed -2)

SearchLoad Options

sometimes it stoppes reverting to the default search engine Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I use it since some years now, and I must say, its a great help and a good addon!

Sometimes (I don't know why, but mostly suddenly :) it does not work anymore,

I now quote the review by Ed from January 4, 2013, which covers my expericence exactly:

"I have the latest version installed, which was working fine for a while. For some reason, my search box has stopped reverting to the default search engine, even though I have that option selected. The search box does automatically clear its text, as I have selected. I have Searchbar Autosizer installed as well."

Some hours later or some FF restarts later, it works as it should.... nobody knows why and its definately not a showstopper :-)

Useful Addon, thank you.

Scroll Search Engines

It worked so many years! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

And I guess, it will work many years too :-)
But now, I deinstall it, because I barely never ever used it, because my high-speed-mouse-wheel scrolled the icons so fast, I almost never hit the correct one :-)

But such small/neat/useful Addons make FF a great tool!

Thanks the Developer!

exactly what is needed, if u wanna keep informed! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I don't like the ff behaviour to keep important information off the users eyes.

position cannot be moved in the extended-status-bar. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This Addon works fine and simple, but it's position cannot be moved in the extended-statusbar. Its stucked and messes with my no-theme-layout.
(here: ff31. maybe it's because the Addon is too old)
