Obsolete: Privacy Mode replaced by Private Tabs and Private Windows Rated 5 out of 5 stars

In Firefox version 20, Mozilla changed the way Privacy Mode works. Instead of applying Privacy Mode to the entire Firefox instance (all windows and all tabs), you can now either launch individual private tabs in a non-private window (leaving the non-private tabs up and running) or you can launch a separate, additional private window in which new tabs are private by default (unless you manually make them nonprivate). To approximate the way the old Privacy Mode worked, you would open a new private window (File > New Private Window) and then close the regular, non-private Firefox window. At any rate, "Toggle Private Browsing" works fine for Firefox versions 3.5 (probably) through 19 (definitely) but it is nonfunctional (i.e., it doesn't do anything) in Firefox 20+. It has reached the end of its life and needs to be flagged as incompatible with Firefox 20+.

Unfortunate Fail Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I had hopes for this, just as anyone else would, but it simply put, it doesn't work. The new addon icon given doesn't do anything and left clicking it doesn't do anymore than right clicking it. and That is nothing. Avoid to save time as from what people are saying, it hasn't been touched since 2008.

Used to be a fine add-on. Not working in Firefox 20.0 anymore. No mention of this (on this page or in the add-on itself) either. This is rather shity.

It badly needs an update! Rated 1 out of 5 stars

It worked well for a long time- but it hasn't been updated since 2008 and the icon just plain has vanished.

I would have written first but I see no contact information. If the developer is still around and is interested in doing an update I will gladly delete this review and write a new one.

private browsing icon also changed
to diffrent color

I like the idea of a single click button to toggle private browsing. I only have one problem, that the icon is very hard to see on a dark background. Any chance of making an optional light colored skin? Otherwise, it works well.

PLEASE HELP Rated 5 out of 5 stars

My name is Nathan and I work with a Charity called Smile in New Zealand that protects families against domestic violence.

We have discovered that browser history is a big problem as partners scan history to see what the victim has been searching for - if it's help the violence increases.

So, to my point, would you be interested in helping us create a version of your add-on that we could distribute through charity websites?

Give me a shout if you'd consider helping us.

Thank you.

Do we need it????? Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I use Private Browsing Mode all the time in Firefox (and in Tor), so maybe I'm missing something... if I want to enter Private Browsing Mode, all I do is click on Tools in the Menu Bar in Firefox and activate or deactivate... so why would I install this addon??? I just think their are too many addons in Firefox that are not needed!!!

Button color change when ON Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Thanks for making this handy tool to quickly access private browsing instead of going to drop-down menu, and thanks for supporting Firefox 4.x. I do have a suggestion though. It's the button. I'd like to see the button change color to blue or something when the private browsing is toggled so that I know I am in it. Thanks.

I really missed this handy tool when I upgraded to FF4 and it would be nice if it had been upgraded by the author. However, I did open up the install.rdf file with Notepad ++ and changed the one line to <em:maxVersion>4.0.0*</em:maxVersion>" as some others have suggested and it now works perfectly in FF4 as it did before in older versions of FF3.

None of these tricks actually work!
Win 7 premium 32 bit
FF 4

problem is - the install tricks might work - but the app is listed as incomatable and there is NO icon with which to switch modes i and out of private - yes I've tried all 3 tricks here, none work!

We need a fix by the Author please!

Temp Fix for 4.0 Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Temp Fix:
Download the add-on .xpi file. Rename it to .zip. Open it, and open the install.rdf file inside. Find the line "<em:maxVersion>" and change the number after it from 3.whatever to 4.0. Replace the install.rdf in the .zip with the edited one and rename the .zip back to .xpi. Install the add-on from the .xpi file. Seems to work fine!

Great add-on! Simple and it just works. PLEASE update it to work with Firefox 4! There are no other ways to get single-click toggling without this add-on.

Thank, maybe it is not good for someone, but for me, it is very usefult, sure!It very very suite with my addon pack, with it my Firefox seems like don't leak RAM anymore, it is very fast at all. Switch both private and public browsing is excited.Sorry, my bad English : (When Firefox > 200MB RAM, I switch to private browsing, switch to public browsing and problem fixed!

Now I need an addon that can quickly switch to Safe Mode(no addon, no history), can you make it ? Thank!
