This doesn't work at all for me. I installed it, restarted Firefox, and now when I click on a PDF link, I just get the pop-up asking whether I want to download the PDF or view it in Adobe.

Needs time

Hi, sometimes after instalation it need a little bit of time to change the links. Try it again and it should be ok. If not, send me some screenshots of settings and the links on info@wips.com. Thank you

Problem Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I have already pronounced before, that it is an awsome extension, but everytime i open a file with gPDF, it gets tougher for me to work as continous downloads of documents take place without my consent. Please help

what do you mean by "continous downloads of documents". You can directly mail me here arpit@techraga.com

Brilliant for publicly available PDFs Rated 3 out of 5 stars

PDFs in browsers are endlessly frustrating (tho' to Chrome's credit they seem to have finally incorporated a simple, quick viewer - could we have this in future versions, Firefox?). When this works, it's brilliant - finally, a top of the range computer* is able to open a document without entirely freezing up. It's fast, and it's no fuss, which is all you really want.

However, while this is great for everyday stuff, I found it a problem when looking at academic articles, which tend to be hidden on sites that need log-ins and so forth. Because it's just a redirect, any links that aren't out there publicly for anyone on the Internet can't be accessed, so this plugin kinda stops you from reaching them; you need to workaround by picking out the PDF address and copy and pasting it (and on my computer then saving it and opening it outside Firefox, but I think my plugins might just be iffy). Some other addresses ending in .pdf also don't go straight to the file, and it's necessary to click "Download Original" to go to the page it's meant to - it'd be nice if the plugin were able to detect this automatically.

There's also as someone mentioned above the odd &embedded=true&chrome=true default, which opens in a way that looks a little odd and can't be searched, but it's easy to click the button in the top right to open it in a normal window.

* Okay, it's not been top of the range for about three years, but it shouldn't have any problem opening a *document*, ferchrissakes.

Seems to meet the need! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Was looking for a way to open PDF files in Firefox and this seems to do the trick very well!

This extension in Firefox, using version 4.0.1 would not work with Word .docx files. I had to disable the extension, and add Word support in the Firefox 'Applications' tool. Hope this gets fixed.

This works well but for some reason adds &embedded=true&chrome=true to the query, which presents a very ugly docs viewer (missing thumbnails at the left, awkward compact interface, way too much zoom by default, and on top of that chrome=true means you'll end up wasting a lot of vertical space anyway for nothing).

I edited the addon to remove that part of the query sting — much better. Maybe some pref could be added for this. Also, as some people have mentioned, right click on link -> save PDF would be much appreciated. But do note you can File -> Download original from within the viewer.

I used to use this all the time but it's super broken in Firefox 4. After trying to figure out the easy way what was causing the "Error: Permission denied to access property 'host'" error that I kept getting (especially on Facebook), I finally had to go through, disable everything, and enable one by one. It eventually lead me to this extension causing it all. FYI to anyone using Firefox 4.

On the other hand, on his website there is a link to install for Greasemonkey. Oddly enough, THIS has no problems at all working. Weird.

Please check with latest beta of Firefox 4

I would really appreciate if you can check for this possible bug with latest beta of Firefox 4 (beta 12). I hope that this issue is over now. You can mail me your feedback to arpit@techraga.in

it's excellent.
what i am missing is a quick way to deactivate it (or work around it) when it does not work. there are some cases, when gpdf cannot retrieve a pdf file - in that case a fix is needed.
thanks for the great addon!

If you want to quickly deactivate it - I would recommend you to use greasemonkey script version of gPDF. Greasemonkey add-on can be easily disabled quickly. You can install it from here ( http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/62538 ). Mail me directly here (arpit@techraga.in) to get any kind of help.

gPDF and October 1, 2010 Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I have estimated October 1,2010, as the day that Google killed this fine add on. It has worked flawlessly and the updates fixed issues I never saw. The programming is elegant! Bravo to the creator. When Adobe Reader wasn't safe he helped us all! It was about this date Google removed the options to download and print the article, and now require you to become a member of Google Documents (can you smell the thirst for a new revenue stream and of course a new way to steal your personal information. Hmmmmm, use them to write and store things, I think not!) Thank you for your dedication to keeping the web safe!

When Google Docs can "see" the PDF it works great, it's fast and clean. But I have to view "internal" and non-indextd PDF's also, and Google Docs can't see them so it says, "Sorry, we are unable to retrieve the document for viewing."

Maybe add the ability for it to check if Google has cached the particular document before you change the link to use Google Docs.

PDFs at the blink of an eye. So fast... Definitely 5 stars!

I found that it was slow to load the documents, worked only as a viewer, and would NOT allow me to save the original pdf as a pdf. Would likely be good if one was using Google Docs, with all the cookies, or, using a Windows product with its poor security. I don't do either, so, uninstalled it.

This is not a problem of this add-on. I don't control Google Docs

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This is a pretty smooth way of using google pdf viewer (I had set up a bookmark keyword before, which works sorta ok but not as fast). However, with certain non-PDF links which have the word PDF in them, it redirects to Google reader which is bad news.

Unfortunately, this addon doesn't whitelist any sites so if you visit an intranet, you cannot use it. Fortunately, the alternative is a GreaseMonkey script that provides the right functionality.

Strange but doesn't detect pdf links for me at all. Must be conflict or NoScript I guess.
