Greasemonkey by Anthony Lieuallen, Aaron Boodman, others

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 940 reviews

1,350,741 users

Customize the way a web page displays or behaves, by using small bits of JavaScript.
Collector's Note An extremely powerful and useful extension that allows *users* to install scripts that change the appearance and behavior of (specific or general) web pages, for fun or to get around problems with the pages' code, style, etc.

User Agent Switcher by chrispederick

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 238 reviews

429,568 users

The User Agent Switcher extension adds a menu and a toolbar button to switch the user agent of a browser.
Collector's Note Allows your browser to pretend to be another browser by sending a fake User-Agent string to web servers. Occasionally necessary for sites that, for whatever reason, don't like the sight of Firefox (or browsers that aren't "approved") but actually work okay (or if you're just desperate to get something out of them). Thankfully, the practice is getting quite rare these days (or maybe Firefox is just so much more popular).

Flashblock by Philip Chee

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 1,130 reviews

866,054 users

Never be annoyed by a Flash animation again! Blocks Flash so it won't get in your way, but if you want to see it, just click on...
Collector's Note Helps some pages to load faster, since you don't have to wait for a bunch of Flash you're not interested in to load. Provides a whitelist for those sites where you want to see Flash.

Password Exporter by Justin Scott (fligtar), Jorge Villalobos

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 303 reviews

194,538 users

This extension allows you to export your saved passwords and disabled login hosts using XML or CSV files that can be imported later.
Collector's Note A useful way to copy your passwords from one profile to another, as an alternative to copying the database files. Also useful for backing up the database.

Session Manager by Michael Kraft

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 535 reviews

293,245 users

Session Manager saves and restores the state of all or some windows - either when you want it or automatically at startup and after crashes. It can also automatically save the state of open windows individually.
Collector's Note Is restoring the last session after a crash not enough? Session Manager stores multiple sessions both automatically and by request and allows them to be loaded later; each session has its own set of windows and tabs. You can even maintain multiple sessions and switch between them (though I don't think they're updated automatically), which makes this extension almost a natural complement to multiple profiles. Profiles = virtual identities; sessions = browsing states.

HttpFox by Martin Theimer

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 159 reviews

113,662 users

An HTTP analyzer addon for Firefox
Collector's Note An occasionally useful extension for tracing the HTTP requests and responses that occur while loading a web page, etc.

Image Zoom by Jason Adams

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 327 reviews

190,390 users

Adds zoom and rotation functionality for images...
Collector's Note A nice little utility for zooming and rotating images in the page. I originally used Optimoz's Mouse Gestures for the task, but this does a better job and is much more focused and lightweight.

Lazarus: Form Recovery by Seth Wagoner

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 345 reviews

55,034 users

Never lose anything you type into a web form again! Lazarus securely auto-saves all forms as you type, so after a crash, server timeout, or whatever, you can go back to the form, right click, "recover form", and breathe a sigh of relief.
Collector's Note Incredibly indispensible. This is another of those add-ons whose functionality should be built-in to the browser. If you've been typing in a form and lose your place for whatever reason (server hiccup, browser crash, power outage), it's great to know you can get it all back with Lazarus. It's also occasionally handy for more ordinary situations like suddenly wanting to back up for a moment (something you missed on the previous page) before finishing the form.

Download Statusbar by C.J.

Download Now

Experimental

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 1,461 reviews

647,556 users

View and manage downloads from a tidy statusbar - without the download window getting in the way of your web browsing.

Thanks Tekzilla for your awesome review! Click here to see their video: http://youtu.be/BUDqWrJ-Vao
Collector's Note Much tidier and more compact than the download windows you get in Firefox normally.

Cookie Whitelist, With Buttons by Alexander Dietrich

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 78 reviews

4,345 users

Cookie whitelisting made easy, with buttons.
Collector's Note Helps both to see whether cookies are being accepted for a given site and to quickly add exceptions.

Character Identifier by L. David Baron

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10 reviews

483 users

This extension adds a context menu item for selected text that provides more information (from the Unicode database) about the characters...
Collector's Note Nice if you're curious about all kinds of Unicode characters like I am, or if you can't tell exactly what some characters are (for instance, depending on the font, uppercase 'I' might look like lowercase 'L', or lowercase 'L' might look like number '1', uppercase 'O' like number '0', etc.).

Neo Diggler by Neil Bird

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 19 reviews

1,058 users

Neo Diggler is a small but powerful add-on for Firefox. It adds a customisable menu button next to the address bar with navigation and modification actions relevant to the current URL.
Collector's Note Has several useful features that save time: a button for quickly clearing the location--er, Awesome Bar, a list of ancestor paths of the current URL (can sometimes be used to quickly get to the main page of the site or section of the site for something you stumbled across), a link to a possible FTP site corresponding to a web site, links to search the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine and Google cache for the current URL, and a link to translate the current page through Google Translate.
