I thank you for the really good idea! But can't establish a good configuration: on 'secure' it's filtering almost every website... :S

Like the idea, don't like how it's working Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I started to browse the web with this addon installed, and it nearly blocked every site I visited. It even blocked addons.mozilla.org (this extension). It blocked some forums, and so on. Some sites, completely appropriate, are blocked.

I believe an option to 'warn' the user about the site, before it is displayed, instead of completely blocking it, should be added. (If there is it should be more... apparent.) But, I love the idea of this extension.

I will make a note as possible feature.

Thank You Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is exactly what I wanted. I love the FF interface and didn't want that to change. I found myself looking at porn at times (like an idiot). This really helps with self-control. Thank you very much.

Very Well Done! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Using this for its ability to block all except what is on the whitelist. Running in conjunction with r-kiosk, this makes a perfect kiosk that keeps users on your site with no chance in he** to leave :-)

Keep up the good work!

firefox 3.0 Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Can you update to 3.0. I donated June 1, 2008 and now cannot use your add-on. I could go back to the older version of firefox.
Thanks!

I 'm waiting for Turkish language support. I can help for Turkish language translation if it is possible.

RE: nzd

Cool. Currently there is no Turkish translator for ProCon, however, if you want you could register at http://www.babelzilla.org/ and translate ProCon's strings into Turkish.

Exactly what I was looking for. Does a good job of blocking inappropriate text and webpages from view while my young cousin is using the computer.

Regular Expressions? Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I just installed ProCon and have been experimenting with it for a bit.

Unless I'm missing something, it seems that the 'explicit language' filter requires you to enter every variant of every obscenity. I believe this add-on would be greatly improved with the ability to specify regular expressions --- for example, instead of blocking ALL of the following obscenities:

foul
fouling
fouled
foulin
foulin'
foulhead
motherfouler

. . . it would be much simpler, and more effective, if ProCon recognized regular expressions such as:

/\w*foul\w*/

Since I realize not everyone in conversant in regular expressions, perhaps ProCon could allow regular expression filtering in addition to the current string literal filtering?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.7.9.3).

It already does =P

Sorry if this reply took 4 ever!
Anyways, ProCon always supported RegExps.
Since it already compiles the list from code, you should always "embrace" the individual terms by word boundaries or what...

E.g. foul[a-z0-9]* does the trick very well... (I haven't refreshed my brain with RegExps for quite some time, however, I would bet that there is another way of writing that pattern.

Take care,
Corvineum

Needs work Rated 4 out of 5 stars

If you're worried about your kids viewing or reading some of the trash that seems to pop up at every turn while surfing, this add-on is no substitute for a commercial internet filtering/monitoring product. However, for your own personal use (which is what I use it for, having no kids to worry about) it is a decent enough solution. Still, in a number of areas it is severely lacking. For example, the filter blocks utterly harmless pages routinely if "moderate" or "secure" settings are selected for the main filter. Consequently, I always have it on the "low" setting. This means that its main use for me is the secondary feature of filtering profanity. But the profanity filter requires typing in every swear word you can think of (not my idea of a good time, but that's just me) and/or waiting until you see the words somewhere so you can right-click and filter them. Not especially efficient either way. I'd like to see a preloaded database of profanities included to at least get us started. Anyway, I certainly appreciate the effort by the developer(s).

(I use this add-on in conjunction with the WOT, Adblock Plus, and Flashblock add-ons, and together they come near providing a friendly surfing environment for myself.)

Greatd program Rated 3 out of 5 stars

If tuned properly this software works great for filtering/blocking sites. Yet the only problem is that it is easily disabled by going into tools/add-on then you can just disable this. So hopefully an update to fix this will come soon.

Great Add On, but... Rated 4 out of 5 stars

The product itself is great, but there are a couple of suggestions I would like to make, if I may:

First, there needs to be a way to make the enable/disable feature password protected. As long as it's so easy to turn off, it renders a great product nearly useless.

Second, it would be really cool if it kept a log of all the sites that were blocked. Any program like this is get-around-able. But if someone is trying the hit-or-miss method to get around the software to find something inappropriate, they are liable to run into a lot of blocked pages along the way. But if they know that every blocked page they go to is logged for someone else to look at later, that might help prevent the attempts.

Just a couple of thoughts.

mixup Rated 4 out of 5 stars

i used Procon latte to stop my kids from getting on to sites i didn't want them to and it works perfectly for that, it wasn't soon after that i found a more brilliant solution, if you download the Procon add on and the leech block add on it all fits very well, the combination is brilliant you get the white list and the profanity filter from Procon and ad blocking and time filtering from leech block, the 2 become a perfect parental control system, just make sure you have your own custom block page for each add on

Two Areas for Improvment Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This is a very good product. I took it through a lot of testing and found only two areas needing improving. Both areas has the potential of creating serious and dangerous situations. First, some web page shows before the filtering is completed. For example, with Java script enabled, the following web page related to religious music shows for about 10 seconds before it detects my keyword filter, "movies": (http://music.yahoo.com/track/609630).

The second area needing improving is the main filter itself. It does not work on some web pages. For example, on the website (http://www.minitex.umn.edu/mnlink/), you to search for any kind of material and the results of the search will be clearly displayed without any filtering regardless of how ProCon Latte 1.7.9.2 is set up. Neither the Main Filter or the Profanity Filter works on this site. Some of the search results on this website have pdf files that can be directly downloaded on your computer.

Overall its a good product and I plan to give a financial donation after these two areas are corrected.
