Privad client 0.3.2.3.1-signed.1-signed Requires Restart
The client component of a non-tracking advertising system called Privad developed by the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems. Privad locally profiles user activity and presents users with ads targeted to their shopping interests.
About this Add-on
that locally profiles user activity to identify browsed products and product-related search keywords. It then
uses identified products and product-related keywords to download targeted advertising from Privad backend
servers in an anonymous, privacy-preserving manner. The client stores these ads on the localhost and whenever
a user navigates to an ad-enabled website it shows Privad ads on this website. Additionally, Privad extension
collects ads-related statistics and allows for differentially private queries over this data (differentially
private here means that noise is added to the query result in such a way that it is impossible to infer presence
or absence of a user's contribution in the aggregate query result). Privad client should not have any noticeable
impact on your browsing experience (especially in terms of browser performance and ui responsiveness) apart from
the fact that you might see a difference in the ads you receive (they should often be related to any shopping
The experimental nature of our system dictates that we neither work with any commercial advertising companies nor generate any revenue by displaying ads. Instead, we create mock-up ads using product listings from Amazon.com, Shopping.com and Google.com/shopping. Since we lack real publishers, we render Privad ads in the existing Google adboxes. While we modify Google ad frame requests to display more textual advertising (as opposed to flash and image ads), we avoid exposing users to more ads than they would normally see.
