Does not work properly lately Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Since a few build of Firefox, this addon does not work properly. It either does not display the download popup window when you click the shortcut button, or does not display any download at all.

Used to work really great, but this need a fix.

May be due to

Everything works for the most part but when I click on reduce height of download rows, the height is obviously reduced too much. The text butts right up against the borders of each row. How about some padding around each row to better tell each one apart or option to customize row height/padding. There's another addon that let's you customize that called Download Panel Tweaker but for some dumb reason it keeps moving to the left away from the downloads button maybe 60% of the time when I click on it. Can anybody do anything right?

Does what it is supposed to do.
Thanks for this!

After using lots of different download add-ons, and more recently comparing many more, I settled on this one. My three primary requirements are:
1. Open the Downloads when the download begins
2. Open them in a tab
3. Make the list more compact
Something that has become more and more apparent, though, is that no matter what I do, all my relatives' can not understand that downloading is not installing. So I have a request for your consideration...
4. Have an optional 'Install' button when the download completes, or something...?

Otherwise, thanks for a great and simple add-on!

That's not something I have any interest in doing, sorry.

Excellent. Very highly recommended. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is an astonishingly well-made and indispensable add-on for any version of Firefox that uses the annoying new download manager.

The options provided are extremely useful, comprehensive and easy to understand. I love the ability to be able to customize the status line text of the panel, and also the option to display downloads in their own tab (without all that Library crap)..Options to use the Library are there if you want it though. You can even open the Library view a tab if you want, so it's very flexible.

The extension works flawlessly for me (including mouse-over), with no glitches or any interference with other extensions such as Status-4-Evar (which also provides some download-related features).

It would be great if there was an option added for viewing downloads in a sidebar (just to make the range of display choices complete).

Also, a separate view that could be launched by middle-clicking on the download toolbar icon would be really useful. It would allow you to have one view (for example a simple small window view) accessed via the Show All Downloads link on the panel, and then have another more detailed view (e.g. a full tab view) launched by middle-clicking on the download toolbar icon.

I've added both those suggestions to my todo list, but I'm not really working on Firefox extensions at the moment so I don't know when I'll actually do them.

You can open downloads in the sidebar by bookmarking chrome://downloadpaneltweaks/content/downloads.xul and setting the bookmark to load in the sidebar. From a brief clicking around, it seems to work okay in there.

Couldn't get mouseover to work. Otherwise does the job.

just what i was looking for. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

finally i got both the downloads panel and download tab working together, thanks to the option to choose a different "show all downloads" screen.
the sharp corners and wide panel(i set it to 750px) are a nice bonus for me.

it's also restart-less, so i didn't have to cancel my 12+ hours download to install or use this addon.

Kick ass. How about this? Auto-open the panel on mouseover of downloads button instead of the useless tooltip. Option to have it appear instantly on mouseover would be nice. Thanks.

Excellent addon with a ton of great tweaks. I do have one suggestion though, could you possibly add a "delete file" option to the download panel context menu for each download?
That would be awesome.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (

The problem with doing this is that I'd have to work out how to add entries to the context menu in the panel, in about:downloads, in the Library and in my own downloads window (all separately because they'd require different ways of doing it). And once I've worked that out, all the people that want the button action to show in the context menu will be asking for Retry/Pause to be added too. And then I've got to work out how file deletion works (does the file go to the Recycle Bin? Or maybe the user turned the Recycle Bin off. Or maybe they're on Linux/Mac where it's the Trash Can or whatever.)

That exceeds the amount of effort I want to go to for a feature I don't see myself using.

(Having said that, I'm one of those people that wants Retry/Pause/etc in the context menu, so maybe I'll do the first two parts at some point. If so, then I'll probably end up doing this feature too while I'm at it.)

Almost Perfect Rated 4 out of 5 stars

A very handy add-on which I can only recommend. I really like the way how it helps to compact the lists, change the number of items displayed, the time remaining format and the mouse over behavior.

What I miss is the functionality of "Download Cleaner":

It would integrate perfectly into this add-on.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (

I'd expect that extension to work fine with this one installed, especially now that it's been updated to work with the new downloads API.

This is superb add on :)

Can you please create that when you start download that ctrl+J is auto start and open download window?

Like old download manager when you click download, window open by him self.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (

There'll be an option to automatically open the panel or the full UI in the next version.

Annoyingly, setting it to "panel" makes the "panel doesn't close when you do stuff in the browser with the keyboard" bug rather a lot more obvious...

Great. The only thing I miss is the ability to retain the downloads even when firefox is closed and restarted. Firefox by default purges the list...

Sorting downloads Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Thank you for useful tweaks! Can you also add possibility to show not finished downloads first in list (like it was in Fx 19 and earlier)?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.1.1-signed).

Yep, but there are some potential gotchas. I saw the reply to your review for Download Panel Tweaker, but the CSS it suggested has some visual issues and it only sorts downloads that are visible in the panel (if there's any active downloads that are hidden, they'll stay hidden.)

I came up with another method that sorts all the items and doesn't have theme problems, but on the downside it only sorts at panel open time (maybe this is a good thing?) and it makes it take a bit longer to open.

I'm not even sure what the right behavior here is. It's annoying having finished/failed items bump active downloads off the panel... but then it's also annoying having a finished download get bumped off by an active download (since maybe you opened the panel in order to open the download). And having an item leap downwards just as it finishes would be annoying if you were trying to click on it.

I'll probably ship my method in the next version.

Very nice and useful addon. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Now is more comfortable to access downloads.
i notice that every time that i restart FF the addon show in the list only the newest downloads(if any) and not all downloads (that shown in library) please fix that bug so all downloads (according to the "max download limitation") are shown in the list.

Some suggestion:
1. please add option for slim list.
2. please add option to auto show/hide the list by
mouse hover on icon

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.1.1-signed).

The short answer to your first and third requests is that I feel they're valid feature requests, but I'm not interested in using them myself, and they're too much of a pain to implement and maintain for something I'm not going to use.

(I had a go at the show/hide on hover, but it turns out to be a bit hard unless you're ok with the panel closing when you move the mouse out of the toolbar icon -- which you probably aren't, since I doubt you want the panel closing when you go to click something inside it.)

I'm not sure what "slim list" means. There are already options to make non-active rows take up less vertical space, and there's a setting to control the panel's width. Plus any custom CSS you want to apply will work fine even with the extension installed.

Nice one Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Good work indeed + two suggestions:
- Change the default format in {4} — {1} ({2} {3}/s) like the default Firefox one that you can see in "all downloads" window otherwise is not consistent.
- Ctrl +J toggles panel is nice but you must add an other shortcut for "all downloads window" like Ctrl + Alt + J for example.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.1.1-signed).

Sounds like I should make the format apply to the all downloads display too, if it's doable. I swapped the order because the string will get truncated if it's too long; losing the speed sucks but losing the end of "remaining" is no big deal. The Library view has tons of space, so it's not a problem there, but the extension's dedicated downloads window does hit this problem.

For the shortcut key, you can use Keyconfig to run "BrowserDownloadsUI();" (or maybe just do Ctrl+J -> Alt+S). Adding a new, configurable shortcut key in an extension sounds like a bit of a pain. (I agree it's a good idea, but I won't make it high priority, especially when Keyconfig is a thing.)

No delete file feature Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Sorry, but the delete file feature is really important. This is so close to being a replacement for the original Download Manager Tweak for the new Download panel.

At least look into it. You've released an addon to the public. Just because you won't use it doesn't mean you should not even try. If it's too hard, fine. But please at least look. You may even be able to copy code from Download Manager Tweak.
