CopyLink controller doesn't remove Google redirects Rated 3 out of 5 stars

An earlier response from the author indicates that CopyLink Controller should remove Google redirecting at copy/paste time. But it doesn't for me, and that's the reason I wanted this extension in the first place. Firefox 30.0, Windows 7 x64.

You're correct, just verified it. Looks like the code handling context-menu actions has been changed on Fx 30 - Feel free to file a bug in the github tracker and i'll try to fix it as soon as possible, you can then install the extension from github since the fix will be there before it reaches AMO (In case you can't wait)

Awesome!!! Thanks I was tired of those "?" and things written after them.

Works well to remove those PESKY redirects...

This feels much more efficient than the various redirection removers. I can't verify for sure but Delegation Mode makes a lot of sense. I am wondering what exactly certain options do though. They sound very useful but they are off by default. In particular, Catch Text Links could replace Linkification but I am not sure if it works efficiently. Ideally, it would only locate and convert text links when necessary, in a way similar to how it cleans links in Delegation Mode. Doing it the way Linkification and others do it can be very processing intensive with long pages.

Your guesses are correct. Catch Text Links allows to click text-links even if they aren't visually clickable, by using the same Delegation code to handle click events on the fly. That option is turned off by default because it's something new on 2.6.0 and whose algorithm was made overnight so isn't extensively tested. I'll wait for feedback from users to know its stability and precision before turning it on by default.

Thanks for your review.

Great addon. BTW, is there anyway to clean the link when copied from search results page?

This user has a previous review of this add-on.

There's a "CopyLink Controller" option which whenever enabled causes the right-click's "Copy Link Location" item to pass through Clean Links, cleaning the link before it's copied to the clipboard.

Well i see that my review is gone..nice
Any way ,i was saying that you could give this tool another functionality.Example is google translate,if we add it to whitelist as you say, than there is no need for addon? But thats the thing, addon could fix links inside google translated pages if only u add it to lets say right click?Example is when u try to download something from translated page, and or open new link?u want those to be clean links, and not with google translate thing infront.I hope i was being clearer this time?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.5.1).

First of all, reviews containing links are automatically flagged and most likely will end up deleted by some AMO editor.

Well, so if i got it right, you want some functionally so that the cleaning of links could take place regardless of the domain being whitelisted. Ok, should be feasible, in any case could be great if you submit this on the Github tracker so that we can discuss it better than here. Thank you.

Very good addon. Prevents all redirection. But why is the icon in the toolbar different from the icon in the addons page ? I like the original icon and it does not make any sense why there is a yellow horse on the toolbar.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.5.0).

Heh :) What you see as a horse was intended to look like a "dog watching", which is used while on "Event Delegation" mode (the default since a few versions ago), so an indicator it's watching for link clicks basically. You may like a little more the icon placed by moving the button to the new Australis's Panel.

Thanks for your review in any case.

Amazing advancement over the old standby "Redirect Cleaner" (and the even older "Redirect Remover")! Really smart idea having it only clean a link on the fly when navigate to it, rather than wasting time cleaning all links on every page load.

good Rated 4 out of 5 stars

useful for cleaning tracking and redirection snippets from links.
would be nice if there'd be a possibility to define link transformation patterns with wildcards (make the user able to change e.g. abc.com to bca.com in order to bypass some simple link shortener patterns).
also i'm sometimes having problems with the add-on icon, sometimes it does not show up where I placed it.

Essential add-on Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I've been looking for an add-on like this for years. It is very useful. The only problem is that there is no easy way to specify new links to be cleaned, like a regex or something to describe the transformation. This would be useful, since the author can't possibly hope to capture *all* such links on the internet!

Now perfect Rated 5 out of 5 stars

The new easy whitelisting feature finally made this truly practical, Previously, it was sometimes hard to figure out just what needed to be whitelisting to make something work- such was the case with my bank. Now it's very user-friendly and much more convenient.

Thank you, pleased to hear you like the feature as much as we do :-)

For those reading this review, let me point out he's talking about a feature on a non-yet-released version, the upcoming 2.5 which is only available through our Github repository atm.

"It needs to be the domain for the link being cleared, not the domain where the link can be found."

When the "domains for the link being created" are literally different online video players which do not work, such as South Park Studios and GameTrailers, how can I whitelist them? Or can you build-in the functionality so that we can choose to have video players working whilst CleanLinks is enabled?

You're right and therefore i've implemented an ease whitelisting feature.

It's currently available in the repo: https://github.com/diegocr/CleanLinks

If you want to test it, you can use GitHubExtIns: https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/GitHub-Extension-Installer/

I.e: by right-clicking the toolbar button there will be a list of the cleaned links, which you can easily whitelist.

A good concept, and works well when it works, although it causes links that normally open in another tab (at least in Google search results) to open in the same tab, with no option to avoid this behavior.

However, around 1/3 of the time, when starting Firefox, the extension does not function, and the toolbar icon is missing, although the add-ons manager says the extension is enabled. That's not good.
