I created Classic Compact Options as a result of updating my theme Classic Compact for Firefox 3.0 from Firefox 2.0. There were major changes to the aesthetic design of the default Firefox theme between v2.0 and v3.0. This resulted in a major split in opinion by Classic Compact users. Some wanted Classic Compact to stay faithful to the "Classic" FF 2.0 look while others wanted a super compact version of the new FF3.0 look. There were also differing ideas about how compact was compact enough. In the end I decided the best way to handle this was to create an extension that allowed one to customize the Classic Compact theme. This started with an option to choose between buttons based on the FF2 or FF3 look and quickly began to incorporate other requested options.
More button sets may be added in the future as the look of Firefox evolves so that Classic Compact users can choose which FF vintage look they want to keep. New options might be added when compelling ideas are presented to me that aren't already handled very nicely by other extensions or are obviously a good fit with Classic Compact Options. Added options have to be considered carefully as new options would have to be translated into the many languages now supported by Classic Compact options and these language updates can take time.
The highest priority for future development of Classic Compact Options is to get it translated into as many languages as possible. If you are multi-lingual and would be willing to help translate Classic Compact into other languages, please sign up on the Babelzilla website and visit the translation project page for this extension at: http://www.babelzilla.org/index.php?option=com_wts&Itemid=203&type=show&extension=3635

I've been a Firefox user since 2003 when it was called Firebird. I started developing websites in 1995 with what would become EnvironmentalChemistry.com. Currently I provide website development services in Saco Maine.
I first made public my theme Classic Compact with the release of FF2, then released my extension Classic Compact Options with the release of FF3. In addition to being an add-ons developer, I volunteer as an AMO editor focusing primarily on reviewing themes.
