Privacy issues Rated 1 out of 5 stars

After I used this (actually useful) plugin quite a long time, I had to uninstall it now. The reason is obvious and has been commented by other users: It's the privacy problem (OPT OUT is a no-go)

Disappointed Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Also telling me to update plugins that are in the current version.
Also selling my private information without saying please.

Was a nice plugin for awhile.

Does´t work correctly Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Auto-Plugin-Checker tells me that I should update some plugins, but I have the newest versions (Silverlight, Adobe Reader). This is misleading!

Only just noticed the privacy-invasion Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I have a bad experience with this plugin as it has invaded my privacy and compromised the security of my system.

As other users have recently noted, this plugin in an update has automatically OPTED IN without any notification to a web/history tracking system, similarWeb. I haven't checked to see if the Privacy Policy has been updated to include this spyware, however that is irrelevant. Such a massive invasion of privacy should have been front-and-center on the description/features/changelist page of this extension, explicitly stating that this was enabled.

I am uninstalling this plugin and have blacklisted this developer.

Story of a sell out and SimilarWeb Rated 1 out of 5 stars

This addon was updated to include SimilarWeb datamining as OPT OUT. This developer is unethical because they failed to notify long time users this was included in an update. The proper thing to do would have been to make it OPT IN for people who had been using it prior to that date. Consequently my search habits and various other details have been leaked to SimilarWeb. I am removing this add on and I plan to never use it again.

(original review 09/24/2015) edit:

Looking at the source code, Plugin Paul as been dishonest since 08/05/2015 version 0.7 is when he first included LeaseWeb opt out spyware without even so much as a change log.

OPT OUT is a no-go Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Since the plugin stopped working for me out of a sudden I noticed that a new privacy option was added in the plugin settings and that I need to opt-out of this. I rate this as a direct attack on my privacy and won't ever this addon again.

Sends browser history to SimilarWeb, problems with working Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Read the privacy policy! (https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/auto-plugin-checker/privacy/)
This add-ons sends data to SimilarWeb - including your IP address and browser history. You can turn this off, but it's said nowhere else - except the privacy policy (which isn't read by many people) and a setting. Additionally I don't know why you do this, Plugin-Paul - do you get money for that?

Additionally it often didn't work. Some times the the Java/Flash updaters informed me earlier, but maybe that's fixed in the latest version.

Great extension! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This extension (or, more accurately, the Mozilla Plugin Check web page) confused me when it kept telling me that Flash was out of date, yet no update was available. Turns out it was trying to look out for me. There were Flash 0-day exploits out there, and no update yet available. At least I knew something was up. Thanks.

I´m working on this

Thanks for your evaluation.
I´ve already started working on this issue. It is harder than it looks though. Till now I just was showing what Mozillas plugin-update-page calculated. Now I´m creating my own logic, to define whether there really are updates or not, which is a lot of work.

面倒なPluginの更新チェックを常時、代行し、通知してくれます。 Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Brilliant! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This should be FEATURED:

Firefox automatically checks for outdated add-ons, themes, search engines, and browser versions, but NEVER checks for outdated Flash or Java. Insecure plug-ins present a big security risk, and vigilant monitoring of https://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/ or the Java Console is just <expletive> annoying.

Kudos to the developer for making something Firefox has never managed to put together.

Good Idea

Thank you!
If you really think that, send an email to: amo-featured@mozilla and recommend this addon. I don´t think I should do that myself ;)

I would be more than glad if the idea of this addon would make it into FF, but being featured would also be great!

This helped as well:
Hey rpzrpz,
no problem: you can extract the icon from my addon (download this addon and rename the .xpi to zip). But I just took it myself from the addons window in Firefox: I made a screenshot from the blue icon and changed the color. Feel free to reuse everything from my sources (see my license). Please consider changing your review, to a more useful text for others ;)

It's wise to keep your plug-ins always updated Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Excellent idea and implementation, thank you. An interesting option would be to "only show the status bar icon when updates are available". (=auto-hide it when everything is ok)

*reply to Paul's first reply: thanks for the immediate and helpful response! Your fix works, with some remarks I've sent you via email. Thanks a lot for the great extension - should be included in the browser.

*2nd reply: the 0.6.4 beta version fixes everything - thanks for the great extension.

Good Idea

Hey Carlo,

sounds so useful that I worked on that immediately. I´ve created a beta which you can get here: https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/auto-plugin-checker/versions/?page=1#version-0.6.3.1beta

I would be happy if you tested it and told me wether it works or not :) It was quite tricky to make it work on the current and also on older FF versions. But I hope I made it!

Greets,
Paul

Edit: Actually there are some minor issues to solve yet :(
I hope to fix them soon!

Reply to the reply: I fear that the mail did not reach me :( If you should read this, please send it again :)

Seems not to work for 64-bits plugins. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Hi Paul,
I'm using PaleMoon 24.6.2 64-bits, which is based on Firefox 24. Since it's a 64-bits browser the number of available plugins is limited to Java, Java deployment kit, Flash and Silverlight. Auto-plugin-checker installs without problems but appears to be "checking status" forever. I would rather not have rated it at all, for I can well imagine that it just cannot handle 64-bits plugins, while it otherwise is a good extension, but since rating it is mandatory, I rated it 2 stars for appearance and intentions.
Kind regards, Rob

Edit: Well after checking the options (sorry I did not do that more thoroughly before) it appeared that "Open update tab on plug-in update" was unchecked from the start on. So I checked it and also checked "Check on Firefox start" and activated logging. Next I restarted the browser and it worked without a problem. :)
Thanks a lot for your help,
Rob

Lets fix this together...

Hey Rob,
this should not happen at all. If you don´t mind, you could activate logging (in the options) and send the result to my mail.

BTW: Rating is mandatory because it is not the way to get support ;) Therfore there is the "Support E-mail" button at the right of the description.
Anyway: I installed Pale Moon24.6.2 64-Bits and the addon worked perfectly. This is quite strange.

I hope I can fix this for you and then you can rate it again ;)
Maybe reinstalling already fixes that problem?

Please let me know, if you tried anything (best via support)
and what the result looked like. Then I can try to fix it permanently...

Greetings,
Paul

Edit:
Good to know! I´m glad it also works on Pale Moon :)

Hey Hugo,
thanks for the good idea. There is a new beta Version available which does exctly what you asked for. Feedback always welcome!

Felicitaciones!

Hola CJV,
