I have been using this add-on for years in Thunderbird, and I was happy with it. I have found it indispensable, for multi-lingual users, and there are many of us out there. I have no idea when it stopped working, and thought that there is probably a bug which will be fixed. It was not. So I tried other add-ons, and used a different one for a while, than that one disappeared, tried this one again... It was not until now, when I have found in a review by tunayx (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/dictionary-switcher/reviews/667322/) that you need to get into the config and turn the automatic recognition on manually:
Options>Advanced>Config Editor set this as 'true'
I could not imagine that this need to be done manually - please warn users, as you will loose them otherwise. It would, of course, be better if it could be turned on from add-on options.
I also have a compatibility issue with my favourite add-on 'Thunderbird Conversations' - it would be great, if the autoswitching would work in the quick reply.
But it is a fantastic and very important add-on, once the user figures out how to turn it on. Keep up the good work!
Although the version 2.0.10 fixes the autocomplete issue in the TB new mail function, it still does not work in the calendar.
Otherwise a great add-on, thanks. If I could have a request, I would like to be able to add a photo as well if creating a new contact or editing an existing one without a photo.
Tried it with English (GB), Hungarian and Croatian - seems to be working fine, much better than the original Dictrionary Switcher. The only thing I am missing is that it does not work with the Thunderbird Conversations - if you could make it compatible with that extension, it would be really great - than I would mark it 5 rather than 4 stars. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0).
As I have already said in my previous reviews, I love this addon as it provides a visual upgrade to Lightning in Thunderbird which is not only aesthetically pleasing but it actually enhances the usability of the calendar function, particularly if you are using TB on an Exchange server. With this addon and the Exchange provider, Lightning becomes better calendar client for the Exchange server than Outlook, while keeping all the benefits of TB over Outlook. There is, however, one issue that I would like to see fixed - I expected this to be done in Lightning, but my second-best guess would be this addon. When displaying an event that lasts for multiple days, I would like to see it running accross the days rather than repeating it for each day. Not sure if that can be done outside Lightning, but I would really hope so. Thanks! This review is for a previous version of the add-on (4.4). This user has a previous review of this add-on.
Using this addon for some two months now I got used to it and got to love it. I actually replaced the 'search' with this toolbar and only needed to enable it two or three times (I am on email on average 12+ hours a day, receiving close to 300 and sending around 60 emails). However, this also gave me the idea that this addon could also do what the 'unified search' was supposed to do - i.e. add an extra option to convert the filtering into a full-blown search.
However, my other idea is a much more significant one, and I believe it could lead to more significant uptake of this addon: make it work on the calendar tab as well. There is a vast empty space in the calendar toolbar, without a single button that I would actually use. However, if I want to search for an event (which is actually a filtering function) I need another 'row'. The ideal solution would be to get the calendar header (<<Today>> February 2013 ... [Day][Week][Multiweek][Month]) into the toolbar as well - there would still be plenty space for the filter. Seems to me pretty similar to the current addon - at least, from the user side :-)
This addon helps getting rid of a perfectly superfluous toolbar which has the most useful feature. Everyone who is handling large number of emails needs something like the quick filter sometimes and wasting another line of the widescreen laptops that we have today is a luxury. On the other hand, the more general search box is very rarely needed, so it is sensible to remove it and move all the quick filter tools to the main toolbar and disable the quick filter bar. Of course, this is a workaround with all its difficulties - an appropriate solution would include a unified searchbox as proposed in one of the 'shelved' feature improvements. My only reason for not giving the 5th star is that using the sender-recipient-subject-body options is a bit inconvenient. But for a first try I am pretty impressed!
Thanks for the comments! I have not noticed the color indicators yet, it is a very useful extra feature. My only problem with the buttons is that there is a non-used space between the searchbox and the buttons, however, the buttons are in a smaller rolling 'box',meaning that what would be 1 click on a button is now often at least 2 clicks. Of course, I also don't see color changes when the buttons are hidden. Maybe if I had higher resolution it would work differently but as it is I only see one and a half button at once. I change my rating to 5 as I love the color indicator idea but I would still love to see all the buttons.
This is a great addon, however, it does somewhat partial job. When opening an individual contact, we still get a new window which limits the navigation. There would be a great way of fixing this, if doubleclicking a contact in AddressBookTab would open a contact in Contact Tabs. If the searchbox of Contact Tabs would be available in AddressBookTab, it would also help sorting out the outstanding issue of TB that you cannot find someone e.g. by phone number. Please consider - talk to each other guys. This user has a previous review of this add-on.
This would be a very useful add-on but it lack integration with other parts of Thunderbird as well as with other add-ons. I would like to get contacts open in tabs when doubleclicking them in the address book - particularly I would like this to happen in the AddressBookTab.This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.0).
I use this add-on for a long time and always liked it but was not particularly enthusiastic. However, the new 'apply category colour...' feature is the best thing recently introduced helping my calendar handling. There was, however, something that worked differently for me than described in https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/calendar-tweaks/reviews/388984/ and there is a bug introduced in 4.1 as well. What worked differently is that although the feature was enabled on my machine on 4.0, installing 4.1 disabled it (got panicking for a moment). However, when enabled, there were still some events without the category colour. When checked, I have found out that if the category name contains a space (i.e. more than 1 word), then it is not applied. Please fix it. Reading some complaints I have figured that if there was an option to apply the calendar colour in case there is no category assigned, would make more people happy. It could also be helpful for those who receive lots of invitations in various Exchange server calendars.
Keep up the good work!
This is what I call quick response: in less then 24 hours the bug was fixed. Well done and thanks!
This is a potentially very useful extension - but it requires two essential things to enable that: (1) it is incredibly sensitive to the format; even if the grouping of the numbers is the same, if the delimiters are different it does not recognize the number. (2) in most cases I would need to look up a person based on the number from my address book - it would be great if that would also work (as matter of fact, this second was the reason I installed the add-on in the first place). Without these two features the add-on is of so limited use that very few people would need it.
Excellent and very useful extension, although I agree with many before me that it is often useful to have the signature above the quote. What would be, however, more important for me is if Signature Switch could be made compatible with Compose for Thunderbird. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.6.7).
I would like to second Grzegorz_P: this is an excellent add-on and I came to love it during my 3.1; however, I started using the new version quite early as it is reasonably stable and with the conversations and compose add-ons it looks like a completely new generation email client - but it is badly missing a tab which I can have open all the time with my address book(s).This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.4.1).
great extension, thanks. could you make it available for thunderbird as well? This review is for a previous version of the add-on (4.2.1).
Love it! I was finally able to get rid of the status bar. It would be even better if it would work with the "link status" extension, I would love to have the additional info without having the status bar taking up space. The other great thing would be if it did the same for the dictionaries (when typing in a textbox like now) for those who type in multiple languages and use autoswitch. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.2).
Very useful extension, I love it. Here is a small improvement idea: The drop-down arrow could be removed and its features could work on right-click. This could save valuable space without making anything more cluttered or loosing any functionality. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.6).
SendVia is an excellent addon but it has a major flow: as I am sending lots of emails from various locations, my accounts are typically set to smtp. In this case no dropdown box appears from the send button and, for quite a long time, I thought that this addon is not working at all. Finally I realised that if I set the email account to other than smtp it works for that one account. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.9.5).
great extension which i use for both firefox and thunderbird. i would also like to use it with sunbird - would highly appreciate if you also made it available for sunbird.
it is useful to have a weather displayed in your calendar. it is even more useful to have the forecast; this, however, would have much better place in the header's of the days (similar to google calendar). the most useful version of the forecast is when one is having different meetings in different locations - this could obviously not fit the event box in month view but could do so in the day view; in the other views it could be displayed in the preview bubble.
this would definitely get my vote to 5 stars - as it is i uninstalled it as it is inconvenient.
