My Reviews

Fasterfox Lite

not sure yet, but some presets definitely not OK Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I'll give it a tentative semi-positive assessment. First, to echo the warning posted months ago by RevSyd: the "strongest" preset configuration that exhibited no problems was the one called Courteous. Beyond that I instantaneously got squawks from Gmail (connectivity problems, Google whined) and - ironically - the Firefox Add-Ons website (it would not load at all). Unacceptable, to say the least.

On the other hand, set to its Courteous configuration, I *think* it causes faster page loads and, so far at least, no complaints. Hard to say, because load times for a particular page will vary anyway.

To be fair and complete: I have seen similar counterproductive things occur in the past as well, with other add-ons of similar purpose installed in the Firefox version of the time.

NewScrollbars (aka NoiaScrollbars)

I like it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Looks good (Firefox 9.0.1). Also coordinates well visually with this user style (for Stylish add-on; replaces ugly red tab close buttons and some others with attractive aqua-colored spheres):

Google Reader Watcher

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Failed. Did not add any icon to the add-on toolbar or anywhere else.
----
edited 13Sept2011. Regarding developer's response (below): of course I already understood how to customize a toolbar. This add-on did not supply any icon to slide onto a toolbar. I originally wrote, "Did not add any icon... anywhere else," which covers it.

Nav Bar on Title Bar

love it Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Works perfectly. No conflicts.

I had expected Firefox 4 to have this as a setting. It didn't. Then Firefox 5 didn't either.

Nav Bar on Title Bar

the add-on I've been waiting for Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is what I expected Firefox 4 to have as an option. Nope. Then when Firefox 5 arrived, still no joy in Spacesavingville.

Hurray. This works really, really well. Behaves just as described/no conflicts with prior add-ons or settings.

Hide Navigation Bar

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Does not work properly. Navbar pops open even while "autohide" function is disabled.

Awesome Screenshot Plus - Capture, Annotate & More

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Well thought out. Works exactly as described (with Firefox 4.0).

Google Shortcuts - All Google Services at a glance

Not compatible with Firefox 4.0b7. Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Can't manage to see any part of it except its normal looking entry in the browser's Add-on Manager, and a menu accessible sidebar that's basically blank. No toolbar button. Support links are not accepting login - can't report bug (if that is what is wrong). Not that it's my only problem with the FF beta (especially regarding toolbar buttons), but this is the add-on I miss the most.

Undo Closed Tabs Button

Please update again Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Loved this in v3+, really want it back for v4.0b7. Prior reviewer claims it will work but it refuses to install of course.

Hard Refresh

good, but incomplete Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Works very well, as described. Would get 5 stars from me if it additionally included a toolbar button. Context menus do get cluttered, and I really like an eye-catching single-function button. You've already got a good icon...

Bookmarks menu

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Sorry, I cannot make any sense of what this is doing or is supposed to do. All I get is a dropdown showing everything on my Bookmarks Toolbar - not useful and not what I was expecting, given what I read. Also, reconfiguring the options makes no difference I can discern in the button's functioning.

Unread Gmail Favicon

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Wonderful idea, wished it had worked in my Firefox 3.6.8. Had no effect at all.

SuggestThemAll!

Good. Posted documentation incomplete. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I assumed I had disabled the function way back when, but thought that Firefox could do this without any add-on. Apparently not [??].

So this is a good addition. I would have chosen 5 stars if there were a second access route to setting the default suggestion engine via its 'Options' button in the Add-ons list. Or if there had been, on this web page, some explanation for the sentence, "It is possible to set a default search engine which will be used for suggestions."

The 'Manage Search Engine List' dialog is just not that obvious a place to look, IMHO, and the Image Gallery on this web page is more of a hiding place than a display of the option's location.

Universal Print

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Pretty good, works well and is almost what I went looking for. Personally I have no interest in printing more than one tab at the same time. So I suggest a stripped-down 'Lite' version - or option - that consists of only one entry (with no slide-off): Print This Tab. And, Lite or not, I would prefer to add a print option to the context menu of each tab (I mean at the tab itself rather than mid-page).

Yooper

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I don't get it. All these great reviews? This thing is unintelligible.

The first thing I noticed was the unpredictable occurrence of unwanted multiple highlighting. Sometime mere selection of a word highlights it; sometimes not. Sometimes all instances of that word get highlighted, sometimes just the once. Hello???

Next up: choosing a highlight color doesn't stick: every new page you navigate to reverts to the hideous default yellow.

And - worst of all, IMO - if there is a way to delete all the highlighting at once, I can't find it.

Actually I actively dislike this thing - something I never thought I would say about a browser add-on.

So many other options are unavailable for v3.6.6. Here's what I really was looking for: something very much simpler, a tool like that in good old Word, that toggles on/off with a toolbar button and highlights text with one user selected, sticking, color. And a way to undo all of same on a page. Personally I have zero need or desire to retain my highlighting, share it on the web, email it to anyone else, etc. Please, somebody... "Yooper Lite"

Hide Titlebar

nice but flawed Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I like it - better than the similar "smart" add-on, which is much too complex for me and failed in several ways - and probably will keep it. It maximizes browser display area... looks sleek.

However this nullifies the "Enable Single Window Mode" option in Tab Mix Plus despite the fact that the relevant about:config entry remains properly set.

I really hope this can be fixed.

Case Changer

Not useful for me. Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I wanted it for composing Gmails. No Case Changer option appeared in the context menu though.

Send Page By Email

Does not work (in Firefox 3.5.7). Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Toolbar button did become available. However, clicking it produced no result whatsoever.

Email The Web

Failed Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Using Firefox 3.5.7 - tried 2 of the available toolbar buttons supplied (not the Yahoo related one). Both caused erratic redirects of browser to display a given page, but never anything resembling what was intended. I mean, no email interface was opened.

Also, author-described menu entries did not appear anywhere.
