Buggy. No point to something so unreliable. Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Two stars for being a good idea. But all the other icons that appear alongside the primary arrow make it confusing. And it's simply erratic. A third of the times the browser starts, this add-on simply does not function at all.

FB PhotoTheater Killer

Revised=== version 1.2 fixes one error, introduces another Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I used to rely on this. That theater thing is so-o-o awful! Now I can echo exactly what user MrEd has written: "Just within the last few days there was an update to something, Java I believe. This caused FF to start throwing out the error
"Error: Illegal operation on WrappedNative prototype object."
Fix? Quick? (P.S. I have FF 22.0.)
Post revised, 6July2013: Have been testing new version 1.2, linked by developer below. At first it seemed fine again. But now accessing a FB comment via the globe icon at the top of the FB page generates this other error:

"Error: document.body is null"

Thanks for working on it!

Close'n forget

FF 22.0 killed this Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Just as the others have reported - not working now.

Plus - reminder - I still really dislike the blood-red toolbar button. Author promised to change it years ago.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.11.5).

Gmail Notifier (restartless)

Skip it. Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I really wanted this to be great. Sorry – epic fail. The toolbar icon repeatedly vanished when the browser was relaunched, making the add-on useless. Truth: I have tried and/or kept hundreds of add-ons over the years, and this is a totally new and unwelcome trick!!

Also: the sound alert is pathetically quiet, Again: functionally useless. And there's no way for the user to alter or replace that sound.

So I switched to the regular (not restartless) add-on of similar title: that works just fine.

Open With

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Nice, much more versatile than the alternative I had earlier. l was able to configure it to open an individual link (or a whole page) in the Incognito mode of Chrome, for instance.

Page Title Eraser

Still works (Ffx 16.0.1) Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Welcome relief from a flashing/animated tab favicon or two that I encounter.

Surprisingly, though the author notes that development ceased with Firefox 3, this seems just fine in Firefox 16.

Open In Chrome

Good, but... Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I like that it works very well, in Ffx 15.0.1. And I like a toolbar button for such things. It's just that the tooltip for this button is a little odd: "...(unless you have remapped the triggers)." Really? I'd rather not have any tooltip other than the add-on's name. Not this confusing text reminding me of the default triggers, which yes, I have changed as per the options.

Dr.Web LinkChecker

A big pest offering no benefit. Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Annoying. Every click outbound from Facebook gets sidetracked and delayed while this thing checks it... then it invariably claims it couldn't, because the "server must be unavailable."

So I unchecked the Facebook option in the add-on. A day later the option had re-checked itself, i.e., refused to honor my choices: EPIC FAIL.

I uninstalled it, would rather rely on the non-annoying add-on LinkExtend and [Avast's plugin] WebRep.

Yet Another Smooth Scrolling

Thanks for the 29July2012 fix for Firefox 15beta2 Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Something had been interfering with my very favorite mouse gestures (I use FireGestures 1.6.16). This must have been it - now they are restored.

Distill Web Monitor - AlertBox

Kidding, right? Rated 1 out of 5 stars

No email alerts ever arrived (during weeks of trial).

The little numbers "1:1" that got added to the toolbar indicated nothing as far as I could tell; no change in the web page in question caused any change in these numbers.

Worst: the clicked-open report window showed me items on pages I had never attached to AlertBox.

All I got was a system tray pop-up every few minutes (with accompanying sound) whether or not the indicated page really had changed.

The online 'support' is equally useless.

Sorry. No pass.

Vertical Toolbar

Extremely annoying! Rated 1 out of 5 stars

v0.2.8 has a bug, as noted in the review prior to mine: toolbar is always open. never retracts. Duh!!! In other words, the add-on has been rendered useless.

This passes muster as an 'update'?? Nobody tested it first?

Then the developer replies that the bug has been fixed in v.0.2.9 - which is not available here or on the homepage.

Sends 43,752 users on a wild goose chase. No integrity.

Meh. Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Works, but half as much as claimed. Nothing whatsoever results from scrolling over the field - I refer to both the Search Bar and the Location Bar - but clicking the added icon does clear the field.

I tend to agree with the user who does not want any [tacked-on clear-by-scroll] feature you can't disable: very unwise change, considering the other functions of scrolling. I'd like to go back to v1.5.

Open Google Calendar with toolbar button

handy Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Works well - opens the calendar in a new tab (as I wanted).
Especially welcome now that the ridiculous new Google Bar fails to include 'Calendar' as a first-tier navigation option.

Google Disconnect

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Good idea, but this interfered with my habit of opening a second Gmail tab by middle-wheel-clicking on something in Gmail's list of labels (e.g., open "Sent Mail" in a new tab while keeping "Inbox" in the current tab). The additional tab appeared but stayed blank.

As soon as I disabled Google Disconnect, my habitual process worked fine again, immediately.

So sorry, but that makes the add-on 100% unusable for me.

Fasterfox Lite

not sure yet, but some presets definitely not OK Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I'll give it a tentative semi-positive assessment. First, to echo the warning posted months ago by RevSyd: the "strongest" preset configuration that exhibited no problems was the one called Courteous. Beyond that I instantaneously got squawks from Gmail (connectivity problems, Google whined) and - ironically - the Firefox Add-Ons website (it would not load at all). Unacceptable, to say the least.

On the other hand, set to its Courteous configuration, I *think* it causes faster page loads and, so far at least, no complaints. Hard to say, because load times for a particular page will vary anyway.

To be fair and complete: I have seen similar counterproductive things occur in the past as well, with other add-ons of similar purpose installed in the Firefox version of the time.

NewScrollbars (aka NoiaScrollbars)

I like it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Looks good (Firefox 9.0.1). Also coordinates well visually with this user style (for Stylish add-on; replaces ugly red tab close buttons and some others with attractive aqua-colored spheres):

Google Reader Watcher

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Failed. Did not add any icon to the add-on toolbar or anywhere else.
edited 13Sept2011. Regarding developer's response (below): of course I already understood how to customize a toolbar. This add-on did not supply any icon to slide onto a toolbar. I originally wrote, "Did not add any icon... anywhere else," which covers it.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.5.2).

Nav Bar on Title Bar

love it Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Works perfectly. No conflicts.

I had expected Firefox 4 to have this as a setting. It didn't. Then Firefox 5 didn't either.

Nav Bar on Title Bar

the add-on I've been waiting for Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is what I expected Firefox 4 to have as an option. Nope. Then when Firefox 5 arrived, still no joy in Spacesavingville.

Hurray. This works really, really well. Behaves just as described/no conflicts with prior add-ons or settings.

Hide Navigation Bar

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Does not work properly. Navbar pops open even while "autohide" function is disabled.
