Flat Folder Tree

TB 24.6 Doesn't work Rated 1 out of 5 stars

No sign of any extra view, and folder options are greyed out. NB, this is same with the 'compatibility solved' version DL and installed manually

shame, looked useful

RSE Tools

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Worthless. Not worth a fraction of a star
Even worse, dishonest and misleading. Does nothing unless you are registered user, in contravention of the add-ons description. Even then, what it does is not what it claims to. All it can do, is search the storage site.

disallow Script Button

Like Magic Rated 5 out of 5 stars

very good. had a tab hijacked using 'onunload' script which presented a persistent dialog box asking if I wanted to leave the page. Clicking yes only closed the box, not the tab so I couldn't close the tab (I'd never buy or install anything from a company that behaved like that.I was faced with having to Cnt Alt Del FF and losing the work I had in the other tabs. I installed this add-on because it was 'no restart'. After adding the add-on's button to the toolbar, I simply changed to the affected tabs, clicked the button to stop the script, and then simply closed the tabs.... like magic.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.2.1).

TagSpaces

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

The developer gave me advice on how to ensure all traces of Tagspaces were removed, after which I was able to reinstall Tagspaces and get it working again. What happened to cause such problems that a normal uninstall/reinstall wouldn't work I don't know but the addon continues to work n normally. There are still some strange things about it working but nothing major. As I can't edit the last rating I gave, I'm happy to write another review.

The developer has been a great help in getting the addon working, and has told me of the new features in the next update.

For those of you who don't know what use this addon can be, here are some suggestions. (Remember the addon works with any file and will open them with their native app.)

Do you exercise? Have a list of routes you run/cycle? Well, with this addon you can add tags to help categorise and ID your routes, eg easy/intermediate/hard..... hilly/level..... 0-3 miles/3-5 miles..... level of enjoyment

Do you go to the gym? You can categorise your routines... eg chest/back/upper body/lower body...... easy/medium/hard.... short/medium/long.... body weight/freeweight/machine

Cooking? Starters/desserts/main course... or by main ingredient.... fish/beef/pork/squash, or by style... French/Thai/Italian/Jamaican, or by time to cook.... 0-30 min/30-60/60+

so by applying tags to all your recipes you can identify dishes for, say, a 3 course French dinner, or a dish using fish that can be made in less than 30 min

are you job hunting and read internet job ads? save a copy of the ad in either pdf or Mozilla archive format (MHT) and apply tags: for attractiveness of the job - Priority 1/Priority 2/Priority 3, or locality - 0-15 min travel/15-30/30+... or by salary bands.....
by using pdf or MHT files, you have an exact replica of the advert that you can refer to after the ad is discontinued and no longer available.

looking for a car? use the same approach as for job hunting... make.... cost.....mileage

handle lots of documents at work for different projects/orders but can't justify dedicated project management or document management software? use tags so that the documents for each project/order can be grouped together - eg tender, specification, order amendment, instruction/authority, schedule. Using the contract name with other tags will keep everything together. Add another tag - on-time/late/behind schedule so you can see where you need to concentrate

In this way, FF starts to work like a simple database so you can easily ID documents and files, and you open the file using the native app. If you don't need fully fledged document management software, this addon can help organise your docs.

Don't have a clue how this works.

TagSpaces

Rubbish Rated 1 out of 5 stars

After using this addon for a few weeks it has suddenly stopped working and doesn't recognise the defined location. Even after uninstalling, cleaning out the prefs and reinstalling, it doesn't work. It behaves as though it isn't compatible with FF even though FF hasn't been updated or changed. Few if any options can be changed - new locations cannot be set up, existing ones are not recognised or selectable, existing TabGroups cannot be edited or moved or new ones created. T%he save button doesn't work so no changes can be saved, including a reset to default, although a reinstall should reset everything anyway

As I said in my previous review, this is Apha at best. There is a facility to make comments on the developers website but you have to register and that is something I don't want to do. The developer hasn't responded to previous comments so have much time he spends on this addon is unknown.

I am not usually so critical of addons even when they fail, but this one shouldn't have been put on this site as it is just not developed enough.

Implemented properly this addon would be very useful for a lot of people who probably don't realise its potential usefulness but as it is, stay clear. As I said previously, 10/10 for the idea, but now, 0/10 for the software.

TagSpaces

Good potential Rated 2 out of 5 stars

This add-on has lots of potential but it is still in a very rough and ready state. There are several areas where things are clumsy inoperation or are irritating. eg, hitting return during any input or editing closes the dialogue without saving, everytime the addon opens, you have to select the folder/location even when you only have one folder defined, tags cannot be colour coded even if you put them in their own groups, so on-schedule/early/late tags are all the same colour as are high/low/middle priority tags, so if you have a high priority project that is late, the tags wilkl be the same colour as low priority that is early.... hardly helpful.Sadly, there is no easy way to contact the author to suggest improvements. This has great potential and would find lots of uses in project management for example but it clearly is still very much a beta (if not alpha). The idea is 10/10 but for useability, only 4/10. I wish him luck with it and will check back to see if improvements are made, which I hope there will be.

Auto Shutdown NG

Works but buggy Rated 3 out of 5 stars

when I use this addon, on restarting FF, I find it has 'removed' itself from the addon bar and the preferences box is unavailable. I have to reinstall it for it to be accessible again. *Sometimes* but not always, restarting FF will make the addon available again, but you cannot do that if you have started downloading. Its a good job you can reinstall without restarting FF.

It seems to work on my FF15.0.1 ok apart from this bug.

FiltaQuilla

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Update to my last post, after nearly 3 weeks, my posts at the author's site are still not approved, and obviously haven't been answered by the author.

I think therefore there is little possibility of ANY support from the author.

If it works for you, fine, if not, you're probably best of uninstalling it rather than expecting to resolve your problem with the help of the author or his site.

FiltaQuilla

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I installed this hoping to apply more complicated filters than TB natively allows, and to apply filters to folders other than the Inbox.

I prefer to filter at server level and fine tune at PC level. The code by another reviewer (Can delete a message automatically without sending it to the trash) works brilliantly. I wanted to apply that filter to mail already sorted by the server into the Spam folder, but the 'folder name' filter doesn't work, as mentione din another review, so although the code works, I cannot apply it to the Spam folder, only the Inbox, and to do that I would need many, many key word filters to identify all the spam (by filtering spam on the server, it happens in the background with no load on my PC, unlike running multiple key word filters on my PC).

Another thing I wanted to do was to add and remove text to the subject. It allows text to be added, but not removed which is a shame.

Overall, good idea but not quite there for me. Maybe the next update?

Edit
I made a couple of posts on the author's site, asking how I could achieve my aims using this add-on. After a week, the posts haven't been approved which I assume means he hasn't read them. Support wouldn't seem to be a strong feature of this add-on, based on my experience. But I wish him and users of this add-on the best of luck anyway because TB could benefit greatly from better filtering.

samfind Bookmarks Bar

infuriating Rated 1 out of 5 stars

the continual stealing of focus was infuriating and causes loss of production - exactly the sort of thing customisation of FF is supposed to prevent.

This addon lasted 15 minutes before going in the bin.

I can only think it is an ego thing that the developer wants to attract attention all the time

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.2.3).

British English Dictionary

Brilliant Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I can't remember when I first started using this but have never had any problems. I use it in Thunderbird and Firefox

Came to this page to add it again after an uninstall and reinstall of Firefox.

I was surprised to see a reviewer say it didn't recognise 'colour'. It does, as well as 'centre' and other British English words, but you have to select the language/dictionary to be used when you install the addon. (right click context menu), as stated by a reviewer about 5 or 6 reviews down. After that it works fine.

Mailbox Alert

Really neat and useful Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I've used this for a year or two and find it very useful. The latest version adds a few useful options.

I am puzzled that for some folders, when testing the alert, I get the following message even though the alert works

"XX] error at undefined:617: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80520001 (NS_ERROR_FILE_UNRECOGNIZED_PATH) [nsILocalFile.leafName]" nsresult: "0x80520001 (NS_ERROR_FILE_UNRECOGNIZED_PATH)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://mailboxalert/content/mailboxalert_funcs.js :: <TOP_LEVEL> :: line 617" data: no]"

Also sometimes, the custom sound is cut off half way through. Don't know if that is a system thing or its within Mailbox.

Pocket

Good idea but just too many bugs that its not worth it Rated 1 out of 5 stars

This is a good idea but it just plain old doesn't work properly. Too many of the options just don't function. Automatic save to offline content is one - being always able to 'read it later' is supposed to be a key function, but it doesn't automatically save offline, and when I try to download to offline, the work in progress bar just doesn't finish, so no content is downloaded.

Changing download location is another function that never finishes.

There doesn't seem to be any description of just where the pages are stored and how secure they are, and if there is any privacy policy. In other words, are your saved pages going to be scanned and exploited in some way? Your guess is an good as mine, so I believe in better safe than sorry and have removed this add-on. It doesn't work so its no loss.

Copy Sent to Current

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I've used this for a long time, and always thought it worked well and was very useful. Now, for some reason, I find that not only is it asking me where to save the email (which is how I want it), it's also saving a copy in the sent folder as well. Periodically, I have to go through the sent folder, check that I have a copy in the correct folder, then delete the sent folder copy - it creates more work than simply keeping things in the sent folder, or periodically moving the sent copiers to the correct project files.I also find it doesn't always ask where to save the file.I have checked the configuration and can't find anything wrong. To me, the extension is useless

There is no place on the author's site to leave comments, and as you can see, he doesn't bother responding here either. I conclude he isn't interested in improving the add-on, or resolving problems.

Send Page By Email

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Shame to see this resurrected add-on falling by the roadside again. It was a great extension, unique, and there is nothing now available that is remotely similar to it.We're now on FF6, yet this add-on wasn't compatible with FF5 so it looks like its well and truly dead. Shame, it was probably the add-on I used most. Instead of bookmarking things for reference, I emailed myself a copy of the page - most useful for checking if the data on the page ever changed as you have the original.

I did bump the version to make it work in FF5 but it didn't always work properly.

Sender Name

Doesn't work for me Rated 1 out of 5 stars

It changes the name shown in the message pane, for each email, but doesn't change anything in the thread pane as stated. The thread pane still shows the old, unfriendly data from the email.I'm looking for a replacement for "address book display name" which does change the thread pane columns. It hasn't been updated for TB5, so I thought I'd look at this add-on....... Going back to "address book display name" because it actually works, and putting off any update to TB5

Why we should need an addon to do this I don't know, because the bug is supposed to be 'fixed' that allows the option to display address book names to be used. Guess it was 'fixed' in TB3, and will start working a few updates later, maybe around TB7. HaHa

Download Statusbar

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

This has always worked well, but since upgrading to FF4, it keeps disappearing from sight, and only restarting FF makes it return.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.9.8).

ThunderBrowse

Stay clear Rated 1 out of 5 stars

after trying this add-on and finding it wasn't suitable, I removed it, only to find a Thunderbrowse splash screen littering my folders. No surprise that it isn't documented anywhere, and obviously no mention of how to get rid of it.

Mozilla should clamp down on add-ons that do this - what other undocumented and unwanted things has it done to my system? As far as I am concerned this is MALWARE.
