Flash Control

Flash Control still not OK with Cyberfox Rated 1 out of 5 stars

2.0.7 and 2.1.0 (the latter having disappeared from the history list) displays orange V shield, 2.1.3 does not.

I don't have Flash installed, so I cannot comment on the F shield.

I have to load the 2.1.0 xpi from the features folder to avoid with certainty any Add-ons Manager snafus.

The shield is still absent in 2.1.4.

cyscon Security Shield

Broken Connectivity = Broken Extension Rated 1 out of 5 stars

c-sirt.org and phishkiller.com are both down and have been for some time. The cyscon domain used for the cloud component is now just connecting to a generic IP sub-domain at kundencontroller.de. This extension just appears to be working. It is not working. Sad, as it was worth five stars.

Trustwave SecureBrowsing

Trust Trustwave Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This worked A-OK in FF 36 and continues to work in 43 as well as currently in Cyberfox Intel 64-bit Portable 46.

It's always worked great since it was SB2 and M86.

Just recently there was an issue connecting to their lookup server. I used their Web contact form to file a report and it was fixed right away.

Trustwave is one of the leading edge security providers in the industry. This highly compatible free extension provides a premium service - ignore it at your own risk.

It works in Google, Bing and Yahoo! And Facebook. As well "behind the scenes" in other areas; visit their Web site for the full details.

Technically, if you trust the reputation services they themselves claim to provide, ixquick (StartPage), duckduckgo and other engines like them don't need Trustwave. And neither do you if all you want is search engine reputation. Trustwave is much more than that.

ZenMate Security & Privacy VPN

OFF is ON Rated 2 out of 5 stars

When "off" browser continues to proxy 127.0.0.1 and connect "secured-by.zenmate.com."

Privacy Badger

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This addons site is not maintained nor does the "Check for Updates" in 0.1.4 work in the browser Add-ons Manager.

Latest updates available only here:
https://www.eff.org/privacybadger
Version 0.2.5 as of this posting.
Has many improvments over 0.1.4.

Toolbar button OK in v36.0.

This is a superb privacy tool and takes care of the "bits and pieces" missed by Ghostery and AdBlock+ Easy List & Privacy.

Flash Control

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I concur with IcemanSR: a worthy successor of old flashblock. I dumped Adobe Flash on all my systems last year and Flash Control is exactly what I needed to handle HTML5.

It works A-OK in Cyberfox 64-bit Portable which is what I switched to when I got fed up with Palemoon.

•For those of us not Ajaxian, what is the purpose of "Override Ajax Anchor"? I've tried it on and off in youtube and what it does just doesn't seem readily apparent.

Thanks!

Flashblock

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Windows 7 HP SP1 x64
Firefox ESR 31.1.1
On this system Flash is NOT installed.
On sites where a player auto-runs, Flashblock 1.5.17 blocks only the video; audio still plays. On sites not auto-run, video is static (still image) or blacked-out while audio plays. This needs some serious fixing.

Still works OK on systems with Flash.

No releases in 18+ months, tho. Has development been abandoned??

DNSSEC/TLSA Validator

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I've been following the whole DNSSEC thing for a long time.

I'm assuming this extension works as I see the green "Secured by DNSSEC" and "Certificate corresponds to TLSA" icons in the address bar for dnssec-validator.cz. But that's it.

All my banking and commerce sites (Bank of America, Wells Fargo, PayPal, Amazon, eBay, etc. etc. etc. etc.), Google, Bing... nada. All "Not secured by DNSSEC." Same for the dozens and dozens and dozens of sites I've visited.

Only one, mymedicare.gov, is Secured, but is "Non-existent TLSA record."

I've used all the Resolver settings, system and "without," and 8.8.8.8@53, 8.8.8.8 and 217.31.204.130 - no difference in results.

So that just leaves me to wonder what the heck is the Big Deal about DNSSEC? Why is no one using it??

Unfortunately, its disuse renders this DNSSEC extension as nothing more than a novelty. But that doesn't mean it deserves less than five stars.

Silvermel

How about that TBird 10.0?? Rated 5 out of 5 stars

When TB 10.0?? Who cares about "just check the relevant Silvermel forum for download link" to some get pre-trunk-r thing. Whatever that is and don't care. Don't make me look for another theme! :) :)

Perspectives

Close but no cigar. Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Uninstalled. After several months of use, I got tired of seeing "no results" from their servers. Like a security company that fails to answer the phone half the time - what good is it? Perspectives is a noble effort and I wish them luck as they move forward.

Change Referer Button

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Perfect. Having used it since 2005, I never actually needed all of RefControl's granularity tho I did have to whitelist many sites (paypal, banks, amazon, etc.). I had to abandon it when it went broken in Firefox 5 (fully documented and emailed to Mr. Abbatiello. Twice.). CRB is an elegant solution. I keep it at zero 99.9% of the time and when I have to refer I hit that nice big icon as needed. THANKS cK-LFC!! Goodbye RefControl.

Bitdefender TrafficLight for Firefox

Outstanding Protection Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Like another reviewer here, I'm not wild about site search results and have it turned off, as I do AVG's LinkScanner Search-Shield. And I dumped Web Of idioTs long ago.

That said, this is The Next Big Thing in security extensions for Firefox. I've been using TrafficLight since June and watched it get better and better to its current excellence. It's so effective I've unchecked Firefox's two "Block reported..." Security settings.

It should be noted that this extension and the ones for Chrome and Safari in Windows, Linux and Mac OS X are not the same as the the "full" version. For Windows only, it's downloaded as WebInstaller.exe from the BitDefender site and it installs full-time scanning engines.

The extensions rely on the cloud except for antiphishing and whitelists which are signatures stored locally and updated regularly, checked for hourly. You can find the sigs in prefs.js in Firefox and in a Chrome .localstorage file.

I'm looking forward to TrafficLight's development and evolution. What amazes me the most, tho, is this is from one of the industry's most stellar developers and it's... Free!

RefControl

Broken Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I've been using this extension with success for years. But I must agree with previous reviewer Paul Leger - it's not working anymore. I wrapped up a report and some screen shots and emailed them to James, as yet unanswered. Hopefully it'll get fixed. In the meantime, I'm un-installing. Sad.

Certificate Patrol

Five Stars for Certificate Patrol Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I'm running v2.0.6 with Perspectives 2.4 in Firefox 5.0 Portable under WinXP Pro SP3 32-bit. No problems.

Feature request: a user configurable setting to enable and time out (i.e. 10 seconds) to collapse the yellow bar. See that in action with the BetterPrivacy add-on "Autoremove message after .... seconds" Thank you!

OptimizeGoogle

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

A-OK for a long time in FF3 (I never used FF4).
This extension is mostly broken in FF5. Sticky prefs seem to work but ads aren't blocked, filters don't filter. Looking forward to fixes. Thanks and good luck!

XNote++

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

XNote as installed in TB 3.0.x WILL NOT survive an upgrade to TB 3.1. THE INSTALLER GIVES FAIR WARNING OF THIS and if you choose to continue, XNote WILL BE DISABLED!

I inquired with Lorenz Froihofer and he had this to report:
"Currently, I don't have the time to investigate this. Probably the extension works as is and just needs to be allowed to be used with TB 3.1. You could try that for a TB 3.1 test installation. The only thing you have to do in order to make XNote install on TB 3.1 is to extract the installation file with a ZIP-extractor, change the line "3.0.*" to "3.1.*" in install.rdf, ZIP it again, rename .zip to .xpi, install it, and see if everything works. If no, we need to upgrade the code."

I uninstalled the XNote running in my current TB 3.0.4 and then installed the extension modified as above. The update to TB 3.1 went smoothly without alerts and XNote works just fine!

Even though it worked for me, proceed at your own risk.

Toolbar Buttons

Button Request Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Well, the "no sign up needed" codefisher forum thinks I'm a spammer, so... Requesting, please, a button to open google as https. Thank you!

SB2

Pathetic Uninstall Rated 1 out of 5 stars

@sloane911
"After uninstalling Finjan add-on I discovered that it had not completely removed itself. about:config reveals 9 entries for Finjan still remain"
Verified! Those nine entries represent about 300kb of "stuff" in Firefox's prefs.js which must be edited out manually. BTW, that nearly _doubles_ the size of a typical prefs.js file.

SB2

Gmail junk verified Rated 1 out of 5 stars

The junk alerts are a known issue within the Firefox and Gmail communities.

http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/gmail/thread?tid=791cad3e2bed7da3&hl=en
The issue remains even with v1.316 in FF 3.5.2. I have sent emails, since June, to support at finjan dot com.
So far, no replies, no fixes. So sad.
UPDATE: I sent Fingan the links for this site and the ones for Mozilla and Google support postings and apparently that got their attention. I received a reply that they'll be looking into it.
