My Reviews

Feedly - Beyond Google Reader

pushes too much content Rated 3 out of 5 stars

There's a lot of good stuff here, but it doesn't fit my preferences.

Firstly, the navbar on the left isn't compact enough, and there doesn't appear to be a simple way to change that. Secondly, I prefer selecting my own content, not have things pushed at me, whether they're news or something else. I didn't find a simple way to disable all of that either.

What I want is a simple browser-based front-end for Google Reader. This isn't it.

Brief

excellent add-on, but not maintained now` Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This is (or has been) an excellent add-on, a better RSS reader than anything else I've found.

However, it is no longer being maintained, there have been no updates since the beta delivered some months ago. I've found that the beta does continue to work with FF9 & 10, but there are glitches being reported and wishlist items that are not being addressed. Some users are concluding that this is an abandoned project. Unfortunate, but it happens.

Caveat emptor.

Tabs Always In Titlebar

doesn't work well in FF9 Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Causes display problems in FF9, with menu bar, FF button, etc. Much better results inserting code in userChrome to get the tabs-on-top in non-maximized window.

ReFwdFormatter

good idea, but doesn't work right in tb9 Rated 2 out of 5 stars

deletes the line break after the "... wrote:", making it very confusing to read the included message

Brief

nice and simple Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Just switched to Brief from the (recently emasculated) Google Reader. So far I'm finding it quite satisfactory, and barring a desire for some bells and whistles (I know, it's supposed to be minimalistic), I am quite pleased with the change.

Update Nov 28, 2011:
If you're using FF 9, you should upgrade to Brief 1.6b1 (available in the dev channel); this seems to work ok, despite some glitches. However, Brief doesn't appear to be well supported right now, perhaps the developer has gone on to other things. This beta version has been around for a long time, with no further updates/fixes. This is unfortunate -- there doesn't appear to be a good alternative.

Track Package

very useful Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Very useful. Timely find, I was looking for something to save the minor tedium of going from the email to the tracking website, and was delighted to find this.

Easy to use, easy to extend.

Phoenity Classic

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

My choice for the best theme available. Pleasing icons & colors!
