"Deselect on Delete" is not a "real replacement" by any means. That extension has no options, and only works when a message is deleted. This extension allows you to click away from a message (without deleting it), and stop it from being displayed in the preview pane.

OK, this time there's a real replacement.

Hi ! This awesome add-on works great with TB 3.1.9, just need 2 little tricks.First : disable the compatibility check or modify the RDF.Second : add a "chrome.manifest" file in the add-on dir with this content :"overlay chrome://messenger/content/messenger.xul chrome://unselect-message/content/overlay-messenger.xuloverlay chrome://messenger/content/messageWindow.xul chrome://unselect-message/content/overlay-messageWindow.xulcontent unselect-message jar:chrome/unselect-message.jar!/content/unselect-message/skin unselect-message classic/1.0 jar:chrome/unselect-message.jar!/skin/unselect-message/locale unselect-message en-US jar:chrome/unselect-message.jar!/locale/en-US/unselect-message/"This file is auto created with TB2, but not TB3.Have fun !

Charles Taylor, you're in for a harsh surprise - it only works until restart of Thunderbird. See https://www.mozdev.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=22900 for help...

This website describes how to make unselect message work in newer versions of thunderbird:

http://www.ghacks.net/2008/01/07/dont-jump-to-next-message-in-thunderbird-automatically/

It only took me a few minutes, and it worked like a charm!

After Delete Works great for me on 2.0..0.23 as Unselect replacement.
This has "replaced" my Unselect add on which has unselect as an option.
WORKS with 2.0.0.23
Some problem with 3.0
See After Delete add on for info

I love this plug in ..
I worked with it under TB2 ... but need it now under TB3!
I guess just changing the max version in the installer will not help, correct ?

Does nothing at all in Thunderbird 3, even after bumping the RDF file to 3.*.

To make it work with Thunderbird 2.x you will need to make a slight tweak as described below:

1. Change the extension from .xpi to .zip and open the file.
2. Edit the file install.rdf with a text editor and change the maxVersion from 1.6 to 2.1.
3. Save the file replacing the original in the archive.
4. Install the add-on as normal.

I need this plug in, but it says it's not compatible with Thunderbird 2.0. Bummer.

UPDATE: I've discovered that if I install "MR Tech Toolkit", then Unselect Message 1.3, everything works as expected. I can't explain why, but it just does. The MR Tech Toolkit is really worth having too!
--------------------------
I have not found a magic combination of must-have extensions that live peacefully with Unselect Message 1.3. By itself the extension works great. However, at least one or more of my other extensions causes my install of TB 2.0.0.21 to lose cut, copy and paste functions...into and out of messages. My inefficient work-around is to resort to "Edit as new...". I've tried all kinds of combos of my extensions, but Cut&Paste does not return to TB until I disable or uninstall Unselect Message. That's a pity because this is a great tool that I rather NOT do without. Hopefully, something will change in future versions of TB that will resolve this disappointing conflict. Ideas anyone?

Can someone make an updated version of this? I need this badly but not compatible with Thunderbird 2.0.0.21.

Oh my...thank you so much. For ages, all I have wanted to do is delete an email, and not have to close another one because TB opened it.

I had to get an updated version (for 2.0) here: http://forum.addonsmirror.net/index.php?showtopic=7228

..change "maxVersion" from 1.6 to your current thunderbird version.

For use it with Thunderbird > 1.5.0 ( at your own risk ) :
Open unselect_message-1.3-mz+tb.xpi with a zip tool, edit the file install.rdf and change "xxx"
to your current thunderbird version. Save the zipfile, install with thunderbird.
