Read2Me "speechify the web" 1.7.4 Requires Restart
by Jim Massey
Webpage and email to speech extension using festival or any speech engine that can handle plain text files. This version has removed the option to use the embedded Flite-1.4 component on linux.
This add-on has been marked as experimental by its developers
About this Add-on
- On Mac read2me uses the Say command.
- On Linux read2me can use Festival or the embedded flite-1.4 xpcom component that comes with the read2me addon.
- - The flite-1.4 component is fast and has the ability to:
- - - Pause speech
- - - Stop speech
- - - 4 built-in in voices
- - - Requires no additional(external) speech synthesis program. The nsIFilte component has the full filte-1.4 embedded. Of course this does make read2meFilte a rather large download.
Note that version 1.7.4 has the flite component removed, awaiting an update
The read2me addon is also available from read2me.mozdev.org This is where you will find the latest version of read2me and versions for other operating systems. There are also other versions that do not include the xpcom component(so download is small) available at the read2me.mozdev.org site
The nsIFlite xpcom component can be used independent of read2me. it is documented at The Kiosk Project wiki
In the read2meFlite-1.7.x version on Mac the pause button will not work since read2me will need use the Say command.
