Share Lightning between Linux and Windows Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Thanks for Lightning...
Lightning is a very good extension but ... It is very damaging because it does not work both on Windows and Linux as once extension for a portable Thunderbird profile. Let me explain myself: When I install the extension on a Linux box, it works fine, but if I eject my portable hard drive where is my portable Thunderbird profile and I reconnected on a Windows machine, Lightning does not work, I have to uninstall and reinstall it to works again, and I have to repeat this process in reverse at a new movement of my portable profile ...I need my email and my calendar at home and at work and it bothers me that it does not work on a windows or linux boxes without changing everything.

Regards

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.6.3).

The problem is we have a binary component that is not compatible to both operating systems at once. In theory it is possible to modify the package to contain both binary components, but the way we build Lightning this is not so easy.

We are working on removing this binary component by replacing it with JavaScript code. There are still some blocking issues, but once it is done we can make it compatible with all platforms. If you want to try it, you can set calendar.icaljs=true in the config editor, but be warned there are some cases it will not work or hang. Use the prefs.js file to disable again if you cannot use the UI.
