Version 1.3.0b3 908.0 KiB Works with Firefox 17.0 and later, Thunderbird 17.0 and later

Changes since beta 2:

  • Minimum required Firefox/Thunderbird version increased to 17
  • Fixed: Opening KeePass with a custom port via KeeFox didn't always work
  • Notification bars now persist for 5 instead of 1 page redirect (so "save password" notification can stick around for longer)
  • Check that websockets are enabled if we are having trouble connecting to KeePass but the legacy port is responding.
  • Fixed: Exceptions thrown during initial KPRPC protocol exchange could cause websocket connection to get stuck in a zombie state until one application restarts
  • Add unicode support to KeePass command line parameters (so database file names with multi-byte characters can now be opened via KeeFox)
  • Privacy policy and metrics collection implementation updated to no longer collect screen dimensions (I don't think the data will be useful enough to be worth collecting).

KeeFox 1.3 has:

  • A more secure (and easier to debug) connection to KeePass
  • Keyboard shortcuts
  • Context (mouse right-click) menus
  • Anonymous statistics collection to help us make improvements in the future
  • Various bug fixes

We now have a privacy policy to confirm that we do not store any personal or private data and provide further information about the anonymous data we collect: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/keefox/privacy/

All the technical details can be found on github as usual: https://github.com/luckyrat/KeeFox/compare/v1.2.7...v1.3.0b3

Version 1.3.0b2 905.8 KiB Works with Firefox 11.0 and later, Thunderbird 11.0 and later

Changes since beta 1:

  • Roughly 10x speed improvement when receiving data from KeePass, possibly more on slower PCs
  • Another possible fix for a bug where Firefox connects to itself, preventing later KeePassRPC connection
  • Anonymous metrics option added to advanced options tab
  • Further implementation of previously mentioned anonymous usage data

KeeFox 1.3 has:

  • A more secure (and easier to debug) connection to KeePass
  • Keyboard shortcuts
  • Context (mouse right-click) menus
  • Anonymous statistics collection to help us make improvements in the future
  • A few bug fixes

Version 1.2.7b1 695.4 KiB Works with Firefox 4.0 and later, Thunderbird 5.0 and later

Fixed another bug that was causing passwords to not save to KeePass in some circumstances. Otherwise identical to 1.2.6b1.

Version 1.2.6b1 695.1 KiB Works with Firefox 4.0 and later, Thunderbird 5.0 and later

Just one small change since the previous beta version in order to improve usability when KeePass loads the database from a remote network:

- Recent file list now uses "Path" in order to avoid brackets around username in remote (open by url) databases (github issue #69)

Version 1.2.5b1 695.1 KiB Works with Firefox 4.0 and later, Thunderbird 5.0 and later

  • A fix for Thunderbird 25
  • A couple of bug fixes that caused some passwords to not save to KeePass
  • Danish, French, Korean, Portuguese and Russian languages created / updated (some not complete yet)
  • Fix for intermittent failed KeePass shutdown on Mono (Mac/Linux)
  • Some other small changes

Version 1.2.3b2 663.2 KiB Works with Firefox 4.0 and later, Thunderbird 5.0 and later

Improved form matching
  • Forms no longer need a password field (feature powered by a set of white/black lists which will need refinement during this testing phase and ongoing with future KeeFox releases)
  • More multi-page logins work correctly
  • New types of form field dealt with correctly (HTML5)
  • The old "monitor each web page for new forms" feature has been upgraded to allow monitoring on only specific websites (if you used the old feature, you shouldn't notice any difference but I strongly recommend disabling this on all sites except for the occasional specific ones on which it is needed)

Per-site configuration allows:
  • You to quickly get many previously problematic websites working correctly
  • KeeFox developers to make most popular websites work for all users in a future KeeFox version

New localisation module reduces work for translators (hopefully leading to new translators joining the team) and allows the "useful tips" and similar messages to be translated for the first time.

A new configuration storage system within each KeePass entry is required to enable some of the features above so once you upgrade your KeePass database you won't be able to go back unless you revert to an earlier backup. The upgrade process has been tested (and applied to many databases with hundreds of entries) but please pay attention to the warning about making a backup.

Full set of changes can be viewed on github as usual: https://github.com/luckyrat/KeeFox/

1.2.3b1 contains just a few bug fixes since 1.2.2b1, most notably password fields are now correctly dereferenced.

Version 1.2.2b1 662.6 KiB Works with Firefox 4.0 and later, Thunderbird 5.0 and later

Version 1.1.5b 599.1 KiB Works with Firefox 4.0 and later, Thunderbird 5.0 and later

Fixes problem for new users with Firefox 18: Initial setup process was unable to download KeePass and .NET due to a breaking change in Firefox 18.

Existing users will be unaffected by the change.

Version 1.1.4b 599.1 KiB Works with Firefox 4.0 and later, Thunderbird 5.0 and later

- PRIVACY: Passwords could sometimes be displayed in the "error console" (see http://keefox.org/2012/11/29/error-console-can-temporarily-display-passwords/)
- FIXED: Common dialog onSubmit throws an exception if it is called before KeeFox has been initialised
- Don't show the simple key creation form if the user has set security policies that restrict the allowable composite key sources
- Don't set the KeePass application state to Minimised if KeePass option to "lock on minimise" is enabled

Version 1.1.1b3 616.0 KiB Works with Firefox 4.0 and later, Thunderbird 5.0 and later

Setup now installs KeePass 2.20 instead of 2.19 (as usual, no update to existing KeePass installation is performed)

Version 1.1.1b1 616.0 KiB Works with Firefox 4.0 and later, Thunderbird 5.0 and later

This version has a number of technical modifications from the previous 1.1.0 beta release but most should be entirely invisible to users (please let me know if you find any new problems).

Detailed changes:

setup for Firefox 64bit builds (e.g. Waterfox) should now work in more cases;
Changed type of link on install_mono.xul setup page;
Various changes to avoid global namespace pollution;

Version 1.1.0b3 615.0 KiB Works with Firefox 4.0 and later, Thunderbird 5.0 and later

KeeFox 1.1.0b3 fixes a problem with field references when multiple databases are open, makes Mac notification bar buttons readable and fixes a problem with filling POP3 passwords in Thunderbird.

Known limitation: Newsgroup authentication prompts in Thunderbird do not work with KeeFox.

KeeFox 1.1 contains dozens of new and improved features and a few important bug fixes, the highlights are below.

  • Multiple database support. Seamlessly work with more than one KeePass database thanks to these improvements:
    • Logins from all open (unlocked) databases are matched (and automatically filled / submitted depending on your configuration)
    • Logins from all open databases are listed on the Logins toolbar button
    • A new login can be saved into any open database
    • Changing databases from within KeeFox is now reliable and predictable
  • Improved form matching accuracy: when KeeFox knows how many form fields to expect for an entry it will now use that information to help select the correct form on a page
  • Instant edit feature added: Review and edit every entry that KeeFox saves (disabled by default).
  • Memory leak fixed: This will be a big improvement for heavy Firefox users who do not shutdown Firefox for days or weeks at a time
  • Added option to require more accurate URL matching for specific entries (previously possible through a hidden KeePass "advanced string")
  • Thunderbird support (in beta testing)
  • Improvements to setup instructions, especially for non-admin users and Mono (Mac & Linux) users
  • First-run improvements (e.g. automatic save of your first KeePass database and a link to information about importing existing passwords)
  • Various other bug fixes and improvements
  • Removed support for Firefox versions earlier than 4.0

Version 1.1.0b2 615.0 KiB Works with Firefox 4.0 and later, Thunderbird 5.0 and later

  • sensitive logging option removed from main options panel
  • logs written when sensitive logging is enabled will now be prefixed with !!
  • disabled FAMS debug logging
  • fixed variables that were unintentionally leaking into global scope
  • no longer tell users when KPRPC loses its connection to KeeFox (it should automatically recover anyway)
  • the three executables used to aid initial setup are now digitally signed

Version 0.9.5b 610.0 KiB Works with Firefox 3.5 and later

Main changes, thanks to krbvroc1:
Linux support (beta)
Mac support (experimental)

Also:
  • HTTP Auth now correctly states when no passwords were found
  • New domain matching rules prevent IP addresses from matching incorrectly
  • Improvements to message/tip display (easier to prevent the same message appearing again once you've seen it once)
  • Setup now downloads files to the KeeFox folder within the user's profile folder (as per new Firefox add-on best practice)
  • Dutch translation added

Manual setup instructions for Linux have been written and verified - they MAY also work for Mac users but no one has tried installing KeeFox on a Mac yet.

Note that until KeePass 2.19 is released you will need to use KeePass version "2.18 with Mono fixes" rather than the standard version of 2.18: http://keepass.info/news/n120116_2.18_mono.html

Please feedback Linux issues to: https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/keefox/ticket/9
And Mac issues to: https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/keefox/ticket/10

Thanks again to krbvroc1 for the great work to get KeeFox working on Linux (and hopefully Mac!)

Version 0.9.4b 590.0 KiB Works with Firefox 3.5 and later

Please test this beta version if you want to run KeeFox with KeePass 2.18. In addition to working with the latest KeePass, this version adds a new message display service aimed primarily at new users (but which I hope to extend to delivery important security notifications in the future).

Full list of changes:

  • Works with KeePass 2.18 (and installs it by default for new users)
  • .NET installer is now .NET 4 (Client Profile)
  • Firefox addon messaging service (FAMS) added to help new users with handy tips, other important messages and potentially future security notifications - see https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/keefox/wiki/Manual/Technical%20architecture/FAMS for more details
  • Fixed bug that caused old style HTTP realm data, priority selection and alternative URL data to be lost under some circumstances during migration to the current advanced string formatting scheme
  • Users of FF4 and above can now setup KeeFox automatically even if they have non-latin characters in their profile path
  • Fixes #116 (bad regexp in any entry breaks keefox) - KeeFox no longer breaks and also notifies the user of the problematic regular expression
  • Locales updated
  • .NET framework detection considered successful if 2 or 4 installed (also should work on x64 FF builds now)
  • New version of Jayrock libraries added; modified to work in .NET 4 Client Profile
  • Projects/solution source code upgraded to run on VS2010
  • other minor changes

Version 0.9.3a 573.0 KiB Works with Firefox 3.5 and later

Main change: Now works with KeePass 2.17

Details and other changes:
KeePass 2.17 is now the default version for new users;
Calls to thread.processNextEvent() in zip file extraction routine for installation have been removed (this may lead to a noticeable Firefox freeze but shouldn't last for more than a second or two at most);
Fixes #104. (Do not prompt to save password if not logged into database) - backported from trunk;
Graphical file Browsers are now attached to the options dialog to aid selection of default KDBX file and location of KeePass and KPRPC;
new (but fake) localised strings - correct ones will be slotted in ASAP;
redundant sync request code removed from jsonRPC client code;
KeePass installation path is now tolerant of directory with and without trailing slash;
Demo tutorial entries no longer bother setting AutoType information (due to change in 2.17 internal API);
KPRPC CountLogins method uses reflection to perform the search for matching entries due to a change in the KP 2.17 internal API;

Version 0.9.1b 567.0 KiB Works with Firefox 3.5 and later

Added complete translations:
Czech (cs)
Chinese (Simplified) (zh-CN)
