Places' Tooltips

Bit more... Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Should also work at:
- Hover over Star icon on Marked Page
- Hover over Bookmark in Library View

App Tabs

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

If it fails for you too on an "EMPTY" trial profile, then I'd rather suggest the original "faviconize" tab (which is unprotected app tab). It works with most others and themes...

What app tab failed is random (or unknown) enlargement of app'ed tabs back to normal without title which basically violates the purpose...

Good idea yet while the time this gets fixed I'm afraid FF4 would already be released...

Link Status

Near Link Status... Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Hi,

I've read all comments and author's responses and agree the author's "intuitive" suggestion of marking links "near" the link itself is ideal since it's very unergonomic to current look.link-hover.link-look.status-repeat style approach compared to look.link-look.status style (no RSI either)...

Author complains about the 'zilla bugs for that approach which some resolved which others I don't understand. Author also mentions security and privacy issues which I couldn't associate with the addon either. Currently instead of this addon I'm using "Stylish" visited-style plus "Link Visitor" mark-bookmarks-visited which in total allows me not to revisit (unless intentional) bookmarked or visited links yet not distinguish in between...

As far as privacy, security and under the hood; I'm also concerned about those too but not to the level of paranoid since after some point resistance is futile and besides there are many workarounds as it comes to programming (though don't know mozilla specifics) to achieve same result. I've seen and using many other addons which overlay on canvas yet not complain over privacy...

Anyways take me for a noob and please explain why the most ergonomic approach can't be implemented currently in simple words???

Thanks...

Especially uszoninyc;

And here another "if i don't like it it shouldn't exist" talk again. Users simply should be able to "think" before posting and 'empathize' the situation. Only afterward trying the addon should comment about it. People don't like snide comments...

Also this theme is more than an Face-lift. It doesn't mention and I don't IE8 either yet it contains many useful Firefox addons all together easing your Browsing and Addon installation...

In short try things before believing "only talk" commentators whom intentions you may never know...

Download Manager Tweak

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Good add-on, Bad advertising...

DMT was on my list before being well designed and so. But after "cosmetic" changes, it reminded me the saying "If you can't do your makeup then don't do it at all"...

There are many free and gorgeous icon sets roaming the Net yet who ever uses DMT face to bear this, kindly, "old" icon set where icons are not even been cleaned well leaving an white border around icons. Please either revert back or choose a better icon set...

Even disabling icons can't get rid of 3 per download icons. For those who suffer like me I suggest to write your own "Style-ish"...

Despite Icons, I believe it's a good non-bloated add-on to go with...

Save Images

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Good job...

Yet Icon needs to be worked on somewhat because it looks too complex to distinguish...

As a Major Flaw; Many like me use 'Save Images' to download galleries where most galleries contain LINKED images. Yet there's NO DIRECT WAY top save Linked Images within your add-on whatsoever...

You can only form a page of linked images then save them all together yet this breaks directory structure options within the add-on...

Please rectify this in future releases...

Thank you...

Please Update to FireFox v3.5+

Google Images

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Simply use "Add to Search Bar" for full customization, to be not bound to red G, or use Stylish for furthermore...

In short this addon is NOT needed...

Screengrab

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Being one of the oldest screenshot addons, IMO it's time to improve ScreenGrab more in terms of UI since current SG lacks behind its rivals...

So if you want SG with toolbar; try Screenshot Pimp. If you prefer more precise selection, try Abduction...

About Java; I haven't installed Java for years yet SG still works?

Yet not perfectly because on http://www.arirang.co.kr/Tv/Tv_Index.asp it simply gives BLACK page and it resets Flash content before the shot...

Screenshot Pimp

ScreenGrab on Toolbar... Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Searching among screenshot addons I first found Pimp to be promising. But after below comment and one encounter of page discoloring (black), I agree with him to a degree...

Yet below review is somewhat incorrect since hotkeys worked for me. Also his beloved ScreenGrab failed "exactly the same" on the same web page with Pimp. Only by examining the behaviors and capabilities of Grab and Pimp side by side, one can say Pimp is "Grab on a Toolbar"...

Despite this bug, the addon is "unique" among others since it is the ONLY one with a toolbar functionality which is way easier than other methods...

Better alternatives are (despite toolbar); Abduction, Shooter even overrated Fireshot yet not the cousin ScreenGrab...

Picozu Shooter

Old Abduction... Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I don't know this addon's relation with it but this is definitely the Old "Abduction". Since many nostalgic users of Abduction are demanding for this, I wrote a guiding comment there...

Despite selection method is not as good as neither Snapper nor current Abduction, Shooter is a better alternative comparing to ScreenGrab or such...

Snapper

Could have been best... Rated 3 out of 5 stars

It could simply be the best if some bugs are fixed...
- Snapping WON'T work for pages with FRAMES. This MUST be fixed...
- There's no mechanism for full page selection other than looong dragging. Either start with full page selection or provide a pointer to click (like center of selection box) for full page expansion...
- Since Snapper alters web page, page dimensions INCREASE if you're to drag selection box further from edges. It "should" simply be bound to current page size not limitless...
- Above situation is repeated in "manual dimensioning", mostly unknown; simply enter values on "dimension text", and values like 10000x10000 could not be entered unless they're real page dimensions...
- A feature; "manual positioning" in addition to 'manual dimensioning' will be greatly appreciated for more functionality...
- Although JPG is more standard, for text readability and size considerations PNG should be 'default' since in looong pages the difference becomes significant...
- A toolbar icon will also be greatly appreciated...

Until above bugs (some critical) are fixed you can try Abduction, Screenshot Pimp or the overrated ScreenGrab. Yet once fixed Snapper can beat them all...

Responding to the previous 2 posts: What Java are you talking about? I've never installed Java for years and Snapper works just fine... Try Java disabling or such for further examining...

Abduction! - Webpage Screenshots Screen Capture

JPG and Toolbar... Rated 4 out of 5 stars

If you're to test all screenshot addons like I do, you'll find that Abduction is superior to all even the overrated Screengrab and others...

Screengrab doesn't allow selection control, even the better Screenshot Pimp either. Only Snapper comes close to the current Abduction...

Despite many nostalgia lovers, current Abduction selection method is more precise and RSI friendly over the old one. For "ALL Page", simply "Double-Click" on any previously selected area. Area will grow to Full Page for Abduction...

But if you like to do the things the "hard way" like OLD UI does then simply try "Shooter" (exp.) which is nothing but an "Old Abduction" resurrection...

Abduction will simply be the best if it were to revert JPG functionality back and add a "Toolbar Icon" like "Screenshot Pimp" provides since toolbar way is "the easiest" despite menu or statusbar alternatives...

Grab Them All (screenshots of many pages)

URL Naming... Rated 3 out of 5 stars

This addon is unique about screenshot addons being able to "batch" the shots...

Only if the author of GTA and author of "Bookmark Previews" can co-decide on URL based names, GTA would be the perfect companion for BP and similar addons...

Aviary Screen Capture & Quick Launch (Talon)

Rely on Flash? Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Among other shot'n'edit addons, this one is close to last since it relies not only on "Flash" but also on the site "Aviary.com" for existence. This dependencies sooner or later will cause user difficulties...

Just search AMO for a better addon...

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.8.6).

Pict Uploader

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Unlike other screenshoters and uploaders this addon "shrinks" large images making page text unreadable...

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.2.5).

WebShots

Try Another... Rated 1 out of 5 stars

As a Web-page screen-Shot'ter, this addon lacks behind almost all of its rivals like screengrab, abduction, shooter and shot pimp...

Besides unique sidebar usage, it fails to provide the basic necessities of a shotter featured in other shotters. It also limits looong page shots to 10000px which is not good...

In short, try another screenshot addon which will mostly work better than this...

Ad blocker

Simpler AdBlock+ Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Although this addon may be functional, it is a simpler AdBlock+ with no UI except for exceptions (exceptions to what?)...

If you dig in your profile for "defs.js" in this addon's folder, it is merely a "subset" of its bigger brother AdBlock+ definitions. These defs are small and especially kept hidden from user which really limits the functionality of the addon and forces user to wait for author's update for definitions...

In short, unless you prefer to block common yet lesser set of advertisements, you should try AdBlock+...

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.6.5).

SimpleBlock

It indeed is a BETA... Rated 1 out of 5 stars

OK, first of all there's nothing in the profile folder you can play with like "simpleblock.ini" mentioned in "COMMENTS"...

Secondly since addon definitions are vague, concluding from overall this is a "URLBlock" which is nothing near AdBlock+ or similar...

And finally even if it can be light on resources, actually should be tried with at least 1000+ URLs for a fair comparison, it is just a "lame" excuse not providing UI. We're not in 90s and bound to GUI'less DOS. Instead of providing an "useless" tray icon author should really use a "simplistic" UI, even a button to invoke its configuration file...

In short, it indeed is a beta and will remain that way if it will continue to disregard the basic necessities of today...

FormFox

Also Statusbar... Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Good addon, yet since "Status"bar is supposed to be used for Status alerts and notification why not also add Statusbar information in addition to popup Tooltip...

IMHO it'll be far more better...
