After I installed this extension, I tried immediately to download a video I had just viewed from the website where it is offered. I got an animated graphic that said it was downloading, but nothing else happened. It just hung up saying downloading for a long time.
I looked through the reviews to see what experiences other people have been having with the extension.
On Sept 19, 2010 there were 10 consecutive 5-star rave reviews, all submitted by what looked like 10 different users, but which were, in fact, just 10 empty login names, ALL OF WHICH HAD JUST REGISTERED on Sept 19, 2010, and none of which were doing anything else except submitting very short 5-star rave reviews for this extension!
On Sept 14, 2010 the same thing again: 5 more empty login names, ALL OF WHICH HAD JUST REGISTERED on Sept 14, 2010, and none of which were doing anything else except submitting very short 5-star rave reviews for this extension!
On Sept 11, 2010 the same thing again: 8 more empty login names, ALL OF WHICH HAD JUST REGISTERED on Sept 11, 2010, and none of which were doing anything else except submitting very short 5-star rave reviews for this extension!
On Sept 7, 2010 the same thing again: 7 more empty login names, ALL OF WHICH HAD JUST REGISTERED on Sept 7, 2010, and none of which were doing anything else except submitting very short 5-star rave reviews for this extension!
Even if this extension does work, and the difficulties I had with it were merely due to temporary technical conditions, the 30 reviews submitted on Sept 7-11-14-19 by reviewers who had just registered, and who did not do much else except submit very short 5-star rave reviews for only this one specific extension, were most likely all put in by one person who was deliberately trying to inflate the rating and create the false appearance that this extension is popular.
This addon fails to save the complete Youtube page content! On every Youtube page is a button (Load More Suggestions) which adds more linked thumbnails to the column of related video Suggestions. There is also a button near the count of views which reveals extra data when clicked:Total views,Ratings,Comments,Favorites,Links,Audiences(including world map). These items do not show up in the page saved by this extension, even when the necessary buttons have been clicked to reveal the extra data in the browser view.
The extension called Mozilla Archive Format (with Faithful Save)
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/212/ correctly saves the entire web page, including the parts mentioned, and the saved result takes up a lot less disk space because it is compressed.
I just installed Places' Tooltips
which shows info tooltips for items, including folders, in history and bookmarks menus, toolbars and sidebars.
Although there is not as much detail in the popups, Places' Tooltips works for everything.
The only place this works is bookmarks toolbar. I only keep high usage sites there, so all that extra info is unnecessary. Mouseover on the bookmarks in sidebar showed no new info as before the addon was installed.
The download hung up completely when I tried option to save complete page as from file menu. This extension is not working properly with firefox 3.6.10.
All this did was empty out my bookmarks sidebar. Nothing showed there until I entered something into the searchbox. I use the bookmarks sidebar constantly to track and move bookmarks throughout the entire collection. The default behaviour should allow that. Other possibilities can be set through options, of which there are none provided. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.4).
