Extension List Dumper

Signed WORKING Revival by Iceberg (who, luckily for them, is not RDL) Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Der_Orso: I am not Iceberg and her/his extension is not mine.

You said you were looking for Extension List Dumper 2 and could not find it. Since you already knew the name, the fact that you found its function was not obvious from its name doesn't seem relevant. But I suppose you believed you were addressing a comment to Iceberg who simply followed the original name of this extension, which was, and is, well known to many of us.

In this country, depending on the context, text may be enclosed in either single or double quotes (otherwise known as 'inverted commas'), and in such context we do not call them apostrophes.

I am glad that you have been able to find Extension List Dumper 2 and are now using it. Your review gave it high marks although, despite the fact I suspect you find it extremely useful, you did not mention any of its good features nor make any positive comment about it. People stay up at night to give us these goodies so when they work for us, as ELD 2 does, why not at least mention that?

..and just a repeat for other hopefuls:

Try typing just 'dumper' (without quotes) in the AMO search box.and look carefully at the drop-down list which appears. Then click on the line showing Extension List Dumper 2.

I have no problem seeing it that way.

However, the new version, 'Extension List Dumper 2', of which I told you, DOES work..

Iceberg has produced a corrected revival of this extension, which is officially on AMO and signed!

Extension List Dumper 2

Best Available and Mostly Really Good Rated 5 out of 5 stars

nknm: Now that you point it out, yes, I also see that problem with printing and I hope it can be corrected.

However, don't you think that perhaps your single star is a bit harsh for one broken function?**

This extension can be invoked - its button in Add-ons Manager is functional.
It does display all the requested information as specified.
The settings to control the information displayed work as expected and
The variety of information available for each add-on is valuable.
It is possible, in the 'Options', to specify one's own default values for those settings.

A button allows one to save the entire display to a file of one's own choosing. This does work.
**As a temporary circumvention of the printing problem, one could do that and then print the file.

A button allows one to copy the entire display to the clipboard. This, also, does work and, for example, allows one to easily copy the information to a spreadsheet.
.
One can also select, and copy to the clipboard, any chosen area of the display, which I find very useful for updating change control files.

As far as I know, there is no other extension on AMO which both works at all (let alone to this extent) and also provides such a wealth of useful functions. You can use it for your requirements and if you know of anything else which can do do that at all then please tell us.

The only remotely similar working things I know of are 'Nightly tester Tools' and 'InfoLister' which, although very useful for many, provide much simpler listings and much more limited options. I'm not even sure that InfoLister is still usable on FF40.*

It is also very important to understand that Iceberg, unlike others, took the trouble to work out how to mend the original totally broken ELD and to now provide this very useful and usable signed fork of itl on AMO for all of us.

I think the printing problem might be quite a small thing to fix. Perhaps you could work out what it needs and let Iceberg know? If I had the brain, I would try that.

Your update prompt was caused by a most belated triggering by the automatic issuing of a signed version of the original Extension List Dumper. Since, as you point out, that version does not work, it should not have been signed.

My Keyboard Navigator

FIXED (XML Parsing Error When Trying to Access the Options) FIXED Rated 5 out of 5 stars

My Keyboard Navigator 0.7.0 in Firefox 40.0.02 on Windows 7 x64.

I was hoping to use the Advanced Settings in this extension as a substitute for KeyConfig, which is unsigned and looks likely to remain so.

Unfortunately, I cannot access the settings and ust get the error:

XML Parsing Error: undefined entity Location: about:my-keyboard-navigator Line Number 51, Column 6:
<textbox preference="pref-focus-key" type="text" placeholder^'&col.keyword.label;" onchange="validateKeyword(event) ;"/X!— places.dtd —>

I have tried in a brand new profile, with absolutely no additions or other changes whatever. It doesn't work.

I have tried versions of the extension going back as far as 2011 but even when, in much earlier versions this error does not appear, then something else fails.

I had hoped to be able to recommend this on the Mozillazine Keyconfig forum topic, where there are lots of quietly desperate people waiting for a replacement.

So what's the problem? Are any of these glowing reviews for Win 7 x64 users? If so, what on earth is different that makes it work for them?

Developer: please see if you can find a solution for us.

EDIT: Thanks very much, Little Spark, for version 0.7.3 which works without trouble.

This is a very interesting extension, since it allows one to replace use of keyboard shortcuts with keywords, each of which is associated with a menu or button action or a piece of user specified javascript. Pressing the extension's single selected hotkey and then typing the first letter of a user defined keyword will produce a prompt which lists all keywords starting with that letter. Typing sufficient subsequent letters allows one to complete selection of the keyword and its associated action will then be carried out.

It does not allow one to modify or disable existing conventional keyboard shortcuts or to define new ones. It provides an alternative system. I found it well worth investigating and, although I think I prefer those conventional keyboard shortcuts, I also need to consider how far 'My Keyboard Navigator' could be used to reduce my problems if I lost the use of Keyconfig.

Addon List Dumper (restartless)

Not Really a 'continued extesion for "Extension List Dumper"' Rated 2 out of 5 stars

This extension, although it works as far as it goes, is a rather limited imitation of 'Extension List Dumper'.

1) It does not include the installation time with the installation date for each item. The time is also very important for change control.

2) It does not allow the display window to be resized and the current visible list length is very small. Not ergonomic.

3) It is not possible to set default values for the list parameters, as can be done in 'Extension List Dumper'. Hence all values must be changed, as required, on every execution. Not ergonomic.

4) The flowery wallpaper effect of the display panel is distracting and detracts from quiet, uncomplicated use. Not ergonomic. It should either be made optional or simply removed.

It might really be much more helpful of monkey413 if she/he would, very kindly, make a direct fork of 'Extension List Dumper', make it work again by incorporating the one line fix detailed in its AMO reviews, and ensure that the working fork is signed by AMO, so we have its full function guaranteed after Firefox 40.

The Addon Type settings introduced by monkey413 might then be added as useful enhancements.

All-in-One Sidebar

Thanks - and a temporary solution for nabucco et al. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Dear eXXile, thanks very much for the update, which seems to be mainly** working well for me in FF39.0 on Win 7 x64. However..

EDITED:

@nabucco: I also see your problem, where the message bar above the extensions panel does not appear when 'Check for updates' is actioned. However, the action itself _is_ going on although, because the bar does not appear, the messages cannot be seen.

You should still see the icon for viewing the available updates list panel appear, as usual, in the icon bar above the searchbar and/or the extensions which have available updates should still have the little 'Update available' message below the version number in the extensions panel entry. Thus you will still be able to see the list of available updates (and to apply them) if there are any.

**I have now had time to test in a new, nearly unmodified, profile and this problem also occurs there: so I strongly suspect that AiOS is responsible. This is not a killer bug but it is irritating.

Until there's a fix for it, I'm using a slightly inelegant circumvention which you might like to try.

At the end of your 'userChrome.css' file in the 'chrome' folder (in your profile), add the following five lines of code.

#updates-container {
display: -moz-box !important;
hidden: false !important;
min-height: 28.2px !important;
}

That will make the message bar visible _all_ the time and you will see the messages changing when, as they should, they do.

Another Restart

Does What It Says. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

As stated, 'Another Restart' provides a toolbar button, a menu item and a highly configurable hotkey, each of which will restart the browser.

It works as stated and is noticeably smaller than the nearest equivalent, 'Restart'.

On restart, 'Another Restart' restores the current session. That suits my needs for such a function very well, since I also use 'Restart Manager' which I have set to discard the current session (and cache) when it is actioned. The two together provide complementary functions.

ONE MINOR BUG: In the options, it is possible to clear all the hotkey configuration fields and an error message then appears in the browser content area. However, no further action occurs and there is then no hotkey for this extension.
The error message is very briefly repeated on each load of the browser.

This way to explicitly _remove_ any hotkey action should either

1) be treated as a useful feature, and not cause any error messages - or

2) give rise to an immediate single error message and cause the pre-existing (valid) hotkey combination (which would initially be the default) to be retained/restored.

Other invalid hotkey combinations all cause the same problem and they should certainly be treated as described in paragraph (2) immediately above.

IMPROVEMENTS I WOULD LIKE TO SEE:

a) The menu item should show the chosen hotkey combination (for information / as a reminder).

b) The icon could better indicate the function, by, for example, using some form or other of the common circling arrows image (but I would NOT wish it to be animated).

For me, those three points would have lost a mature extension a star but this is new, works for me and the code inside uses the SDK and looks very methodical and clean, so I give it five.

Lightning

Lightning 4.0.1 Download Rated 4 out of 5 stars

According to this site, the Lightning 4.0.1 download should be 6.6MB but it is actually only 4.8MB, which is also much smaller than previous versions.

Is the download faulty?

Folderpane Tools

Clarification for user 'franc' Rated 5 out of 5 stars

@franc

Sorry, you have misunderstood the meaning of 'Start Folder'.

It is not the top folder in the list.

It is the one which is always focused on Thunderbird startup. Its content is therefore always displayed in the thread pane on startup.

You have described the correct method to always show 'Local Folders" at the top of the folders pane.

That is not what I commented on and you will see that I did not mention 'top position' or anything similar in my previous review.

If you click on 'Local Folders' in the folders pane, you will see what I want to see in the thread pane whenever Thunderbird starts.

When it was working, 'Folderpane Tools' used to provide this feature - one simply chose 'Local Folders' as the start folder.

Unfortunately, 'Folderpane Tools' no longer works and, although 'Manually Sort Folders' does allow one to select a start folder, that facility does not include 'Local Folders' as 'Folderpane tools used to.

From 'franc's review on November 3, 2014:

".. I looked around and like another here posted (user "RDL"), the only reason why I used Folderpane Tools was to set the Local Folder on top position."

ScrapBook

Toolbar Button Instead of Removed Status Bar Button Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Thank you very much for the latest version of this excellent extension.

When you have time, please create a toolbar button to replace the removed status bar button and then leave it on the 'Customize Palette'.. That allows us to choose exactly which toolbar to put it on.

Users who posted here recently wanting the status bar button restored should note that a toolbar button can be placed on any toolbar and moved around, without being restricted to the prison cell of the legacy status bar area.

All-in-One Sidebar

@dviewer Rated 5 out of 5 stars

1) It may be on the All-in-One Sidebar toolbar (vertical, beside the sidebar) and might not look the way you expect it.

Make sure menu 'View'->'Toolbars'->'All-in-one Sidebar Toolbar' is ticked/checked/enabled

2) It may be on the 'Customize Palette' and you can drag it from there to any toolbar you want.

Folderpane Tools

Hoping for a Fix. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I have that same "Error parsing XML: Entity not defined.." error when trying to use this extension's options in TB31.0.

I hope Philip Chee is able to provide a fix. In the meantime, users may want to try the extension 'Manually Sort Folders', which is also to be found on this website.

'Manually Sort Folders' seems to provide most of the features of 'Folderpane Tools' but,unlike it, does not allow one to specify 'Local Folders' as one's start folder (and thus to see the management page on TB start instead of an actual folder content).

'Folderpane Tools' allows that and is the reason I use it.

'Folderpane Tools' is also about half the size of 'Manually Sort Folders'.

Manually sort folders

Start in the 'Local Folders' Display Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Very useful and nearly a substitute for 'Folderpane Tools' when that does not work. However, for me there is one feature missing.

When I click on 'Local Folders' in the folder pane, TB shows a management display in the thread pane.

I would like to be able, in 'Manually sort folders' options, to select 'Local Folders' as my start folder and see that management display each time TB starts.

MagicSLR

@Sugoi - There is a Version 3.9.2 on this Site! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Sugoi - Have you tried version 3.9.2? It works for me on FF31.0, including restoring my 'send all unsent' button which had disappeared.

If you want to try it:

To find version 3.9.2:
Go to, and click on, 'Version Information' almost at the bottom of this page.
In bottom right of the resulting expanded box, click on ' See complete version history'.
That will take you to the 'Versions' page for MagicSLR, where you will see version 3.9.2 at the top.

How to Install in Thunderbird

Right-click on the 'Download' button next to version 3.9.2 and
in the resulting menu, click on 'Save link as' to Download and save the file to your hard disk.
(you will be asked where you want to save it),
In Mozilla Thunderbird, open 'Add-ons' from the Tools menu.
From the options button there next to the add-on search field
(mine is a cog wheel with tooltip *'Tools for all add-ons"),
select "Install Add-on From File..." and
in the resulting 'File Picker' dialogue, go to and select the downloaded add-on.

It should install.
Restart TB.

ShowIP

ShowIP 2.5 Button Cannot Be Customized Rated 1 out of 5 stars

ShowIP 2.5 no longer hides the Firefox 'Customize' righthand panel. However, since it is placed on yet another new toolbar, from which it cannot be moved by 'Customize' (the toolbar is not shown in that mode), it just wastes space.

I don't need any more toolbars. I already have enough. They are in use and they already have space for a ShowIP button.

Author: please don't create any new toolbar, statusbar or any other bar for your extension. Please just create your button, put it on the 'Customize Palette' and let _us_ use 'Customize' to drag and drop it on whatever existing toolbar we choose.

I find version 2.5 of this extension utterly unusable on FF30.0 and FF31.0

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.5).  This user has a previous review of this add-on.

ShowIP

ShowIP 2.4 Breaks FF29.0 Customize Dialogue Rated 3 out of 5 stars

ShowIP is useful and usually works well. However, in FF29.0, on Windows, ShowIP 2.4 causes the righthand (menu) side of the customize tab panel (including the 'Exit Customize' button) to disappear. See:

Customization broken • mozillaZine Forums
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2828369

(ShowIP 2.4 also seems to put its icon into a status bar (instead of a toolbar). Edit of an old version perhaps? Extensions are no longer supposed to use a status bar for buttons - which should instead be customizable toolbar buttons.)

Since ShowIP 2.2 doesn't work at all in FF29.0, until a fix is released, the solution is: either live with the reduced 'Customize' dialogue or disable/uninstall ShowIP.

05 May 2014: I've just reduced my rating by one star because five (5) days after this was reported on the support site there is no response there yet (let alone a fix), for this significant problem.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.4.1-signed).
